For this is developed a new contrast-enhancement algorithm based on the segmentation of the image area with relatively high density of dark elements. The problem is solved changing the brightness intervals of the selected segments followed by equalization (in particular - linear stretch and skew) of the corresponding parts of the histogram. The method implementation is relatively simple and permits easy adaptation of the contrasting algorithm in accordance with the image contents, requiring the setting of small number of parameters only. The obtained results prove the efficiency of the new method on the processed image quality","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116793258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of noise in a dataset represents a significant challenge to data mining algorithms, as incorrect values in both the independent and dependent variables can severely corrupt the results of even robust learners. The problem of noise is especially severe when it is located in the dependent variable. In the worst case, severe noise in one of the independent variables can be handled by eliminating that attribute from the dataset, provided that the practitioner knows that noise is present. In the setting of supervised learning, the dependent variable is the most critical attribute in the dataset and therefore cannot be eliminated even if significant noise is present. Noise handling procedures in relation to the dependent variable are therefore absolutely critical to the success of a supervised learning initiative. In contrast to a binary dependent variable or class, noise in a continuous dependent variable presents many additional difficulties. Our procedure to detect and correct noise in a continuous dependent variable uses Bayesian multiple imputation, which was initially developed to combat the problem of missing data. Our case study considers a real-world software measurement dataset called CCCS, which has a numeric dependent variable with inherent noise. The results of our experiments show very encouraging results and clearly demonstrate the utility of our procedure","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115413889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By mapping lexically different but semantically similar words into features in the domain ontology that underlies the words, we can achieve at least two benefits: the dimensionality of the feature space can be reduced effectively, and the semantic information that underlies the lexical words can be incorporated into the classification process, leading to better classification accuracies. In this paper, we propose an ontology-based feature weighting strategy for the biomedical literature classification problem. We assign weights to the features into which the lexical words are mapped, according to the structure of the domain ontology, and further optimize the weights using cross-validation. Our experiments on MEDLINE-indexed journal abstracts demonstrate that our method can achieve a significant improvement on the classification accuracies, especially when the classification task is hard","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117214155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The video data are modeled by a hierarchical learning mechanism called HMMM (hierarchical Markov model mediator) and indexed by an innovative semantic video database clustering strategy. The cumulated user feedbacks are reused to update the affinity relationships of the video objects as well as their initial state probabilities. Correspondingly, both the high level semantics and user perceptions are employed in the video clustering strategy. The clustered video database is capable of providing appealing multimedia experience to the users because the modeled multimedia database system can learn the user's preferences and interests interactively","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134354194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IAFACDSS will generate the best strategy for advanced fighter's pilot in an air combat environment. In the IAFACDSS, we use fuzzy inference system (FIS) as decision-making mechanism that takes into account of human thinking ability and pilot physical limitations. Before executing FIS process, every future posture corresponding to pilot's decision-making space of advanced fighter and an enemy's fighter future posture must be predicted. This paper assumes that IAFACDSS will accurately predict an enemy fighter's future posture. Then IAFACDSS applies the predicted data to generate the best control command through FIS. We verify the proposed algorithm with a set of fighter flying data that is used as enemy fighter's flying trajectory. The simulation results show that IAFACDSS will enable advanced fighter to obtain the best status in an air combat environment, thus effectively achieving the object for developing IAFACDSS","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130414339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In design, knowledge is recognized as important to improve the decision-making process and the commensurability of the designers' interpretative framework, but how can relevant knowledge be identified among all the knowledge within a company? This study focuses on the early stage of project development when it is important to have a clear understanding of what is known and not known in the company to correctly specify projects (e.g., teams, costs, lead-time, etc.). A method is proposed in this paper to identify knowledge, where it is, and its level of reusability. This method filters a repository to identify and extract relevant knowledge and define its level of reusability. The problem of failure occurrence tends to increase according to this complexity leading to time-consuming tasks as the isolation and repairing. In this context, the maintenance integration into a control-monitoring system becomes an important issue. It results in improvement of the system functionality in terms of availability, efficiency, productivity and quality. This paper proposes a control-monitoring-maintenance architecture (CMM) for FMS based on Petri nets with objects (PNO). This supervision framework is based on a modular and hierarchic model structured in CMM modules. The integration is based on a development methodology in which the maintenance aspects and policies are taken into account from the conception (modelling) stage. In this paper, we improve a recent heuristic-based approach to compute infeasible minimal subparts of CSPs, also called minimally unsatisfiable cores (MUCs). The approach is based on the heuristic exploitation of the number of times each constraint has been falsified during previous failed search steps. Unfortunately, DoDAF and DoD net-centric mandates pose significant challenges to testing and evaluation since DoDAF specifications must be evaluated to see if they meet requirements and objectives, yet they are not expressed in a form that is amenable to such evaluation. DoDAF is the basis for integrated architectures and provides broad levels of specification related to operational, system, and technical views. In our earlier work, we described an approach to support specification of DoDAF architectures within a development environment based on DEVS (discrete event system specification) for semi-automated construction of the needed simulation models. The result is an enhanced system lifecycle development process that includes both development and testing in an integral manner. We also developed automated model generation using XML which paves the way for OVs to become service-providing components in the Web services architecture. In this paper we present the semantic structure for one of the operational view documents OV-6a that would aid the development of these semi-automated models. We will describe how 0V-6a can be structured in a more generalized meta-model framework such that every rule is reducible to meaningful code which is automatedly constructed through natural language processing (NLP) methods and further be reduced to DEVS based models. The paper also presents an overview of the life-cycle development methodology for these enterprise architectures and how a common enterprise domain-model can be used in customized business/domain-specific rules and policy structures","PeriodicalId":402255,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse & Integration","volume":"40 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125880162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
