Self-diagnosis based on information obtained from the Internet can be hazardous to your health. Laymen lack the necessary education and training to make accurate diagnosis, unlike dental professionals. There are also subtleties in diagnosing oral problems that only dentists and other dental professionals are aware of. The cyber platform nature is imprecise, and the information provided may vary from one website to next. Relying on forums is even worse because most of these provide with incorrect information. Even if the article or blog post appears to be legitimate, it is insufficient because in self-diagnosing, there is a risk of trivializing or exaggerating the symptoms you are experiencing due to personal bias. Those experiencing persistent or recurring symptoms, as well as excessive anxiety, can seek professional assistance.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122865272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Young leaves and stems are edible, used in wound healing (ulcer), treatment of inflammation and skin infections. This study is reporting the effect of the leaves extracts and fractions of Microsorum pustulatum on the urease enzyme as well as their free radical scavenging activity. The leaves extracts were obtained by successive cold maceration in n-hexane, acetone and 70% aqueous ethanol. Phytochemical screening was done using standard methods. Urease inhibition assay was done using the modified Berthelot method with thiourea as reference standard urease inhibitor. The free radical scavenging activity was assayed using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) with ascorbic acid as reference standard. The organic (AOP) and aqueous (AAP) fractions were obtained by chloroform-water partitioning of the most active acetone extract. The acetone extract (anti-urease=51.6%, DPPH radical scavenging= 49.9%) and its AOP fraction (anti-urease= 43.3%, DPPH radical scavenging= 70.31%) were observed to have good urease inhibition and free radical scavenging effect when compared with standard at the same 1mg/ml test concentration. The trend in median DPPH radical inhibition concentration: AOP (IC50 = 0.09 mg/ml) > AAP (IC50=0.64 mg/ml) was also observed. The phyto-constituent present in the screened leaf extract are saponins, tannins, phlobatannins, phenolic, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, carbohydrates. In conclusion the result validates the traditional use of Microsorum pustulatum leaves in treatment of disease such as ulcer, chronic inflammation etc. caused by pathogenic microorganism (Helicobacter pyroli, Proteus mirabilis etc.) that needs urease for survival and to curb inflammation in oxidative stress state. Also acetone extract of the plant can be used as additive to urea base fertilizer in the development of ecofriendly urease inhibitors and increase in crop production.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130566065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many laboratories do urge people to donate blood willingly. The donors are usually checked properly and are screened for some notable blood borne diseases and the blood level of these potential donors is checked to ensure that the donor is capable of donating blood. For regular donors, the last dates that they donated are checked just to be sure that the interval is not too close. But what happens when the donor is a “commercial donor” who donates blood for monetary gains and usually gets the protocol broken for him. The planned periodic interval between donations is usually not followed and he is allowed to donate. He is paid off, and the blood bank then sells these blood for monetary gains. He goes from one laboratory to another and is allowed to donate blood for money. This went on until one day he presented to a hospital with a complain of a tingling/ ringing sensation in his head and laboratory findings revealed that he was Anaemic apparently from the unsupervised frequent blood donations. And only then did he tell his story.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131193530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is considered one of the malocclusion types that stimulate patients to seek orthodontic treatment to improve facial symmetry. Objective: To conduct a literature review on bimaxillary protrusion with respect to its aetiological factors, morphological features, prevalence, diagnosis, and management. Methods: Relevant sources of information were searched using electronic databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, Elsevier, ResearchGate, and Web of Science. A total of 28 articles were considered and included in the literature review. Results: It was observed that bimaxillary proclination is prevalent among Asian, African, African-American, and the Caribbean regions, but less prevalent in white Caucasian populations. Treatment of patients with bimaxillary protrusion by extraction of four premolars was found to be successful in decreasing the dental and soft tissue procumbency seen in patients with bimaxillary protrusion. Conclusion: Successful treatment of patients with bimaxillary protrusion starts with a good understanding of the patient’s concerns and sometimes, a close collaboration between an orthodontist and an oral surgeon.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"15 15-16","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114047633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transplant patients are more susceptible to COVID-19 infection due to various medical comorbidities and immunosuppressive therapy. The mortality rate was also reported as up to 30% in transplant patients. The fundamental implications of COVID-19 are different depending on the organ transplanted and the receiver's comorbidities. In addition to this, non-pharmacological interventions and vaccines help prevent COVID-19 in transplant patients. In this mini-review, we focused on summarizing current literature associated with transplant patients with COVID-19 infection, clinical outcomes, risk factors, and precautions to be taken during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117179122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five experimental diets were formulated to meet nutrient requirement standards of broilers. Diet 1 (0 % MTCPM) served as the control while diets 2, 3, 4 and 5 contained 25, 50, 75 and 100 % MTCPM respectively replacing maize in the diets of birds. A total of one hundred and fifty (150) day-old broiler chicks were randomly allotted into five treatment groups with three replicates of ten birds each. Each group was assigned to the five experimental diets in completely randomized design (CRD). Throughout the experimental period, feed and water were provided ad libitum for all treatment groups. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) in all the haematological parameters measured. The values obtained for packed cell volume (36.21- 38.19 %), white blood cell (4.18 - 4.20 x 103/ml), red blood cell (4.48 - 4.86 x 106/ml), haemoglobin (11.96-12.68 g/dl) were similar regardless of MTCPM level in the diet. The results of the serum biochemical indices of broiler chickens fed MTCPM based diet revealed that the serum protein (2.01 – 2.43 mg/dl) level increased (P<0.05) among birds fed 50 % MTCPM based diet compared to others. The dietary inclusion of MTCPM did not significantly (P>0.05) influence the cholesterol (0.92-1.19 mmol/l), glucose (6.40-6.91 mmol/l), and urea (0.69-0.80 mg/dl) compositions of the broilers fed the experimental diets. It was concluded that MTCPM has a high potential as feed ingredient in poultry diets and could be included in the diet of broiler birds without any deleterious effect on health status of the birds.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127806057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, diabetes mellitus is a systemic disease that affects a large part of the population and can be considered a complicating factor for implant survival. However, many studies report few complications in these patients, with mucositis being the most common. The objective of this work is to report the clinical case of a 67-year-old insulin-dependent patient who sought the dental office to replace element 21, lost a few years ago, with a dental implant. The patient has been in follow-up for more than 2 years and the implant installed remains intact, without gingival inflammation, which can be considered a successful treatment, since the patient has glucose fluctuations even when using insulin. This follow-up of more than 2 years reinforces safety in rehabilitation with dental implants in diabetic patients who are not compensated or with fluctuations in the glycemic level.","PeriodicalId":400966,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116168556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
