Santiago","doi":"10.1174/021435599760374069","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1174/021435599760374069","url":null,"abstract":"Esta investigacion somete a comprobacion empirica una prediccion derivada de la teoria de la codificacion fonologica propuesta por MacKay (1987): silabas que comienzan con un grupo consonantico deben tener latencias de denominacion mayores que silabas que comienzan con una consonante simple. El experimento 1 muestra que la prediccion se mantiene en una tarea de denominacion estandar de silabas aisladas, donde tambien se encuentra un efecto de frecuencia silabica. Los siguientes experimentos utilizan variedades de la tarea de denominacion para intentar aislar el origen de este efecto de complejidad de la estructura silabica. El experimento 2 muestra que el efecto desaparece cuando los sujetos tienen tiempo sobrado para preparar su respuesta vocal antes de la senal de reaccion (denominacion preparada), descartando un origen articulatorio. Los experimentos 3 y 4 manipulan el intervalo temporal que los sujetos tienen para preparar su respuesta, y encuentran que el efecto de frecuencia silabica se desvanece con demoras mas cortas que el de complejidad estructural. Esto sugiere que este ultimo surge en etapas de procesamiento finales pero prearticulatorias, posiblemente en la etapa de codificacion fonologica. The possible influence on these effects of changing physical features of the items from study phase to test phase has been also studied. Directed forgetting effects were only found when items in the test phase matched physical features of those in the study phase. These effects consisted of a decrease in accuracy level as well as an enhancement of both reaction time and P250 wave for the forget-words as compared to the remember-words. In contrast, in the physical mismatching condition only the accuracy measures were affected by the forget manipulation. These results can not be only explained from the diferential rehearsal view. They rather suggest that, in the study phase, items are codified conjointly with their instruction. Registramos la activacion generada por el primer encuentro de la palabra ambigua mediante una tarea de decision lexica, realizada tras la segunda presentacion de dicha palabra. Comprobamos la activacion/inhibicion de los significados a traves de los efectos producidos por el contexto global (activacion/ inhibicion asociada al primer encuentra de la palabra ambigua), o por el contexto local (activacion/inhibicion asociado al segunda encuentro de la palabra ambigua), y empleamos para ello un amplio rango de intervalos temporales. En situaciones altamente demandantes puede ser crucial por tanto el dirigir la atencion al lugar adecuado. Asi, cuando en la busqueda de un objetivo se deben explorar diferentes lugares de forma consecutiva, la implementacion de un mecanismo que inhiba la vuelta a lugares previamente explorados seria altamente adaptativo, especialmente cuando se debe minimizar el tiempo de busqueda. Los estudios sobre orientacion atencional Llevados a cabo con el paradigma de costos y beneficios han mostrado la existencia de ambos efectos: la facilitacion inicial en d procesamiento de informacion que aparece en el lugar (u objeto) donde se ha dirigido la atencion, y el subsiguiente deficit en el procesamiento en ese mismo lugar u objeto cuando, una vez retirada la atencion, debe volver al mismo sitio. En este trabajo revisamos la literatura experimental sobre este segundo efecto inhibitorio, denominado Inhibicion de Retorno: caracteristicas del efecto, bases neuroanatomicas y coordenadas de representacion. En los ultimos anos se habia cuestionado la naturaleza atencional del efecto de Inhibicion de Retorno, y con ello su importancia como revelador de la existencia de un mecanismo inhibitorio de orientacion atencional, dado que solo se obtenia con tareas que implicaban exclusivamente la deteccion o localizacion de un objetivo, pero no cuando la respuesta implica la discriminacion del mismo. Sin embargo, recientes publicaciones muestran que cuando se utilizan los procedimientos y parametros adecuados el efecto aparece tanto con tareas de deteccion como de discriminacion EnglishWhen the environment is searched for a target relevant to behavior, performance is considerably improved if attention is oriented toward the target location. In demanding situations orienting attention to the right location can be crucial. Thus, when several locations have to be explored consecutively, the action of a mechanism which inhibits attention from returning to previously explored locations would be highly adaptive, particularly under time pressure. Orienting of attention research with the cost-benefit paradigm has shown both effects, i.e. the initial benefit of processing in the location (or object) to which attention is oriented, and a subsequent cost at the same location (or object) once attention has been withdrawn. Here we provide a review of the experimental literature about the inhibitory effect, which is called Inhibition of Return: We focus on characteristics and boundary conditions of the effect, its neural basis, and the frames of reference in wich it can operate. Recently, it has been argued that this effect can only be obtained when stimulus detection or localization is the required response, but not when discrimination is necessary. En primer lugar, se resume brevemente las principales hipotesis propuestas para explicar las diferencias relacionadas con la edad en tareas de memoria. A continuacion, este estudio se ha centrado en la hipotesis que sugiere un deficit en los recursos de procesamiento, y mas concretamente en el funcionamiento de la memoria operativa, como posible explicacion de las diferencias que aparecen entre las personas mayores y jovenes. A partir del marco teorico de MO propuesto por Baddeley (1986), se analizo las diferentes estrategias de investigacion y algunos de los principales resultados encontrados. Finalmente, se recogen algunas sugerencias para futuros trabajos de investigacion en este ambito. EnglishThe aim of this paper is to present an updated review about problems arising in working memory (WM) functioning mainly during normal aging. Firstly, the main hypotheses for explaining the age-related differences in memory tasks are briefly summarized. Later on, this study focused on the hypothesis about a reduction in processing resources reduction, and particularly in the working memory functioning as the possible factor responsible for differences found between elderly and young subjects. The different research strategies and the main findings were analysed based on the WM model proposed by Baddeley (1986). Nuestra hipotesis de trabajo era que la adquisicion de una habilidad como la de programar ordenadores puede ser facilitada por la adquisicion de un buen modelo mental del ordenador. A un grupo de 24 estudiantes novatos se les enseno el sistema operativo msdos y se midio su aprendizaje en el uso de los comandos del sistema y la representacion mental adquirida durante el proceso de aprendizaje. Para medir la representacion mental se utilizaron tecnicas indirectas de adquisicion del conocimiento. Los resultados mostraron que los estudiantes que mejor aprendian adquirieron tambien una mejor representacion mental del sistema, mas similar a la que tienen los expertos programadores. Concluimos que, con la metodologia utilizada, es posible establecer la relacion entre representacion mental y aprendizaje que las teorias de modelos mentales postulan. EnglishThe purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between knowledge representation and learning computer programming. Our working hypothesis was that the acquisition of procedural skills such as programming would be facilitated by a good understanding and mental representation of the computer. A group of 24 novice subjects learned the operating system MSDOS and then were tested on it. After learning, subjects were assessed in their ability to use MSDOS and in their knowledge of the relations among the main learned concepts. Indirect measures of knowledge elicitation were used to assess subjects´ mental representation. Results showed that better performed students were not only better at solving MSDOS problems, but also had mental representations closer to those of the experts. Las asincronias temporales para todos los continuos fueron de -35 a 55 ms. Se calcularon los valores de d' a partir de las puntuaciones de discriminacion. Ademas, los porcentajes de identificacion obtenidos en Lopez-Bascuas, Fahey, Garcia-Albea y Rosner (1998) fueron convenidos a d' de modo que, al comparar estas d' con las de discriminacion, se pudo evaluar hasta que punto los continuos eran percibidos categoricamente. El analisis de las funciones de identificacion y discriminacion mostro que 1) los tres continuos eran percibidos de modo categorico y 2) la percepcion del tis en adultos no parece estar relacionada causalmente con la percepcion de asincronias temporales por el sistema auditivo. EnglishNative English and Spanish speakers provided 2IAX roving discrimination functions for three continua: synthetic [ba]-[pa] stimuli varying in voice-onset-time (VOT), a noise-lead-time (NLT) continuum where a noise and a buzz started at different times but terminated together, and a tone-onset-time series with a variable onset time between 500 Hz and 1500 Hz coterminous sinusoids. Onset-time differences for each continuum ranged from-35 to 55 ms. The corresponding d' measures were computed from discrimination scores. In addition, the identification indexes obtained in Lopez-Bascuas, Fahey, Garcia-Albea and Rosner (1998) were converted to d' so that categorical perception could be assesed by comparing these d' with the discrimination ones.
