This paper presents, a proper approach to calculate the switching surge flashover rate (SSFOR) using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Interface System (ANFIS). The switching overvoltages distribution along the power transmission line under different conditions are investigated. The statistical distributions of energization overvoltages for a typical Egyptian 500 kV double-line from High-Dam to Samalut are derived based on the results of 100 energization scenarios by randomly switching using alternate transient program (ATP). The statistical distributions and its key values, such as mean value, standard deviation and 2% statistical overvoltages values have been recorded. The effects of the line length, source strength and shunt reactors for controlling the switching surge overvoltages are demonstrated. The developed ANFIS system is used to estimate the SSFOR for different input parameters for both of the switching overvoltages and the insulation strength distributions with high and comparable accuracy.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131600286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed a methodology to choose the contracts that minimizes the risk of energy feeding scheduling non dispatchable sources and a new fuzzy algorithm to predict the costumers demand. The strategy is based on the seasonal behavior of the sources and its complementary connection. Allows the agents to minimizes the uncertainty about generation, avoid financial risk of exposition to the spot market and improve the information to the decision makers. Can be used to help the free clients to choose the best energy source and by the distribution company to manage the energy contracts. At the end the strategy is applied to construct an energy portfolio of distributed generation sources and the benefits are presented.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132801650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the demand patterns are rather complicated due to the deregulation of energy market. A generic model could not be developed for the demand patterns in different areas within a power system. This paper proposes a robust model for forecasting the long-term demand in the city of Aldawdmi, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on particle swarm optimization. Field data are manipulated through adaptive multiple regression to yield the proposed model. The correlations between predicted and actual data validate the proposed demand-forecasting pattern.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130967845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HPGS are used to distribute the load between many different energy sources (e.g. utility grid (UG), wind turbine (WT), photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), and storage battery (SB)). These power sources are combined together in different configurations to form the HPGS. There are two common operation modes for these hybrid power systems; the first one is called as a standalone mode, in which the distributed power sources are combined together to supply the power without any supporting from the utility grid. The other mode is known as the utility grid connect mode, where the combination of these power sources is paralleled connected to the utility grid. This paper introduces a new contributions on the design of the HPGS, where the proposed hybrid system includes for the first time another energy utility such as the natural gas piping network. All operations conditions of this network are considered through the design of the HPGS. Applying modern meta-heuristic optimization techniques for the first time in the sizing of the HPGS. The applied techniques are; the ant lion optimizer (ALO) and grey wolf optimizers (GWO). MATLAB software has been used to execute the optimization process using ALO and GWO, and a detailed comparison is occurred between the results of applying the above mentioned techniques and another two modern optimizations techniques; Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) and flower pollination algorithm (FPA) to show the effectiveness of applying both of ALO and GWO.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114837511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, proper evaluation requires expensive equipment, expertise and time for sampling and testing. UV-Vis spectroscopy is a nondestructive technique that can be conducted on-line with a lower cost and a simple manner. This study aims to investigate the impact of thermal aging on the UV-Vis spectra and the dielectric properties of aged transformer oil in order to correlate between them for the sake of condition assessment of aged transformer oil using UV-Vis spectroscopy. In this regard, oil samples were thermally degraded by accelerated aging experiment in laboratory. Then, these samples were tested for breakdown voltage and dielectric dissipation factor. Also, water content was measured due to its influence on the dielectric properties. In addition, the samples were tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometer to obtain UV-Vis spectra and decomposition by-products. The results were investigated considering the effect of aging duration and correlating the decomposition by-products with dielectric properties. The results indicate that UV-Vis spectra can reflect the degradation in aged transformer oil.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123463617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
