It offers an approach for power systems to control distributed renewable energy sources. The proposed system has the capability to synchronize itself with the utility grid before connection and track the grid frequency after connection without a phase-locked loop (PLL). Moreover, it provides the synchronverter with a current limiting capability during grid disturbances.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117131217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the indirect field oriented control of the LIMs is derived, and then cascaded sliding mode controllers design for indirect field oriented control is applied to compensate the uncertainties, which occur with conventional control techniques. The performance of the LIM drive is investigated for cascaded sliding mode controllers of position, speed, and primary current. The effectiveness of the proposed cascaded sliding mode controllers is verified by simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with conventional PI-controller at different operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127451322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The radial distribution probabilistic load flow (PLF) software tool is developed using Monte Carlo technique. Using this software tool, the power flows at the various sections of distribution feeders and voltage profiles at all nodes of a network can be predicted. It is assumed that the uncertainties of bus loads and generation can be estimated or measured. Monte Carlo technique gives high accurate results with high computational cost. Hence, the forward/backward sweep approach is used as a deterministic load flow solution to reduce the overall algorithm time required. The algorithm is adopted for standard radial balanced IEEE 33-node and 69-node feeder and performed by using M-file in MATLAB software.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127534420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system consists of a wind turbine, PMSG, un-controlled rectifier and voltage source inverter using PI control. The parameters of PI control are calculated by using try and error method. The system is modified by using a switch mode rectifier and a voltage source inverter between the PMSG and a three phase loads. The loads that used are resistive, inductive and capacitive loads. Voltage stability is the biggest challenge facing electric power operators, especially in distribution side. It contributes more than 80% of issues concerned with power quality problems. Locally, the Egyptian national grid is suffering serious problems due to the gradual increase of load demand, which causes the power system to be unstable, and exposed to voltage instability problems. This paper investigates the impact of D-STATCOM on the performance of a realistic electrical network of a new city in Upper Egypt. The study is performed using NEPLAN commercial software. The selected network consists of 20-buses along with 20 distribution transformers of 22/0.4 kV and two medium voltage distribution points (DP). This network is studied with and without D-STATCOM to show the impact of D-STATCOM on the network performance regarding to voltage stability, control of voltage magnitude, and reduction of total active power losses.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125285996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, Model Predictive Control (MPC) is the methodology that has been used to obtain a precise positioning of a ball-screw driven mechanism. The design of the proposed controllers relay on a linearized model of the system and system dead time compensation. Responses of the proposed control systems are verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations. Moreover, a comparison has been done between the performance obtained using the proposed controllers and that obtained using a conventional proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID controller), the results shows the effectiveness of the former despite of the friction non-linearity and the existence of dead time.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"183 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122691594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The driving coil of the launcher creates a current pulse that depends on the capacitor charging circuitry specifics. The coil gun electromagnetic launcher system is analyzed using a mechanical model coupled to a magnetic finite element analysis model. The effects of changing the capacitor voltage level and the initial position of the projectile on the acceleration, speed and force are examined. The proposed analytical tool provides accurate calculations. The relations between the capacitor initial voltage, the initial projectile displacement and the final steady-state projectile velocity were examined. It was found that there is an optimum initial position for a projectile to achieve maximum launch velocity and this position depends on the projectile dimensions, mass and the value of the capacitor initial voltage.","PeriodicalId":397427,"journal":{"name":"2016 Eighteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128641261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
