However, many veterans who deal with this condition avoid therapy, and innovative therapeutic solutions are needed. The current article presents a case study of combining nature and group therapy in a long-term, group adventure therapy program for veterans with chronic PTSD. Qualitative data were collected during four focus groups with 10 participants. Thematic content analysis was employed to conceptualize this intervention’s therapeutic components. Three main themes were identified, highlighting how this program enhanced participants’ skills in coping with PTSD avoidance symptoms, because group relations constituted a platform for promoting rehabilitation efforts. Nature was described as a pivotal curative factor, providing added value to this therapeutic model. These findings suggest nature-assisted therapy is a promising supplementary intervention, particularly for clients who fail to gain sufficient improvement via other individual or trauma-focused therapies.","PeriodicalId":39702,"journal":{"name":"Social Work with Groups","volume":"46 1","pages":"235 - 248"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42083726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These issues were exasperated by the requirement of pandemic stay-at-home orders and the closing of in-person programs and services. Given the risks associated with adolescent mothering and the impact on their children’s developmental functioning, it is imperative that intervention programs are implemented to support these young mothers. There is a dearth of research that explores the feasibility of using online programming with adolescent mothers. This article describes our experiences delivering an arts-based mindfulness program online to adolescent mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several challenges were encountered with respect to engagement and facilitation including high attrition rates and numerous disruptions during programming. Although the participants were motivated and interested in the program, they experienced numerous barriers to attendance and participation. Challenges with respect to technology, parenting, and family life significantly impacted the feasibility of online delivery. Future studies could attempt to address the social inequalities experienced by adolescent mothers to improve engagement and the effectiveness of online programs.","PeriodicalId":39702,"journal":{"name":"Social Work with Groups","volume":"46 1","pages":"190 - 204"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48888824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is therefore important to ask why this is the case, as there is a tendency for only a small number of social workers decide to lead groups. In this research, we hoped to understand what motivates and discourages social workers from leading groups. The analysis of the research data revealed that this method of social work is evolving in the NGO sector, which often gets involved in solving ignored social issues, and, what is more, these organizations are characterized by flexibility and partnership. The article presents the results of qualitative research aimed at understanding how the group work method is applied by social workers working in the child welfare system of NGOs in Lithuania.","PeriodicalId":39702,"journal":{"name":"Social Work with Groups","volume":"46 1","pages":"205 - 219"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59193436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
