The Ni-Mo sintered discs were annealed at 1150°C for 20min, and submitted to the roller process in 5 cycles to obtain a thin foil with 0.10 mm of thickness, for brazing process adopted to join the cathode components. The samples were submitted to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled to energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis (EDS) to characterize the composition and microstructure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was performed to determine the crystalline structure and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (EDX) was performed to determine the chemical composition and the homogeneity of the composite alloy.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115786172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impedance of the proposed antenna is match at 915 MHz. The meander-line tag antenna dimensions were optimized and evaluated using the software CST Microwave Studio. S parameters of the fabricated antenna were measured using a two-port VNA. The impedance was computed and comparisons with the simulated values were done. It was observed that erroneous material specifications can cause a significant variation in the impedance results.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132535279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A piezoelectric flextensional actuator (PFA) is a device with small dimensions that can be driven by reduced voltages and can operate in the nano- and micro scales. Interferometric techniques are very adequate for the characterization of these devices, because there is no mechanical contact in the measurement process, and it has high sensitivity, bandwidth and dynamic range. A low cost open-loop homodyne Michelson interferometer is utilized in this work to experimentally detect the nanovibrations of PFAs, based on the spectral analysis of the interferometric signal. By employing the well known J1...J4 phase demodulation method, a new and improved version is proposed, which presents the following characteristics: is direct, self-consistent, is immune to fading, and does not present phase ambiguity problems. The proposed method has resolution that is similar to the modified J1...J4 method (0.18 rad); however, differently from the former, its dynamic range is 20% larger, does not demand Bessel functions algebraic sign correction algorithms and there are no singularities when the static phase shift between the interferometer arms is equal to an integer multiple of π/2 rad. Electronic noise and random phase drifts due to ambient perturbations are taken into account in the analysis of the method. The PFA nanopositioner characterization was based on the analysis of linearity between the applied voltage and the resulting displacement, on the displacement frequency response and determination of main resonance frequencies.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130975007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the high-efficiency rectifier was designed, in order to evaluate its harvesting performances; the rectifier was connected to a classical antenna and the energy harvesting characterization was performed. A correct model of a Schottky diode is necessary despite the nonlinear behavior. To increase the conversion efficiency an electromagnetic resonant phenomenon is proposed. To validate this method, we developed a rectifier circuit capable of recovering signals at 2.45 GHz with a high RF-DC efficiency conversion. For a low-power density of 1.3 μW/cm2, the rectifier presents a maximum conversion efficiency of 70% and when connected to an antenna of 43%.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114531342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measure of water vapor can be also the sonic temperature. This contribution compares computed sonic temperature from relative humidity, temperature and air pressure with sonic temperature observed by sonic anemometer. We found that the sonic temperature (measured by anemometers) can be replaced by computed sonic temperature being more available in practice. Finally we introduced the Sonic Reduction Factor (SRF) defined as ratio of FSO attenuation computed from sonic temperature to attenuation estimated from meteorological temperature. It could be used to correct the clear air attenuation computed from meteorological temperature instead of sonic temperature.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114892797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two cases are considered. The first one regards an elastic grid. The second concerns a situation where optical spectrum is divided in blocks that are individually assigned to channels with different bandwidths. A new RSA based on the search for the shortest path with maximum number of free frequency slot units (SPMFF) is proposed. Investigation encompasses three scenarios characterized by different channel connection probabilities. Computer simulation results indicate that first-fit algorithm provides minimum blocking probability for low traffic loads, but is outperformed by SPMFF at higher loads. It is also verified that SPMFF allows the highest network bandwidth occupation, which is of 54% for a blocking probability of 10%.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"480 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124497455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is evocated in order to solve the signal-to-noise plus interference ratio (SNIR) optimization to regulate the transmitted power in order to minimize the power consumption. The main results have showed, even with only 10%-20% of the total PSO convergence, the network is able to operate within a approximately saving of 10% of consumed power compared to network operation without power optimization policy. The utilization of bypass technique with PSO results in saving approximately 35% of the consumed power and should be strategically utilized in optical networks.","PeriodicalId":395359,"journal":{"name":"2013 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave & Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121225572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
