They reformulate the adaptive nulling problem as a signal estimation problem and derive several adaptive nulling algorithms which require varying amounts of prior information about the desired signals. The information required by the algorithms may include signal directions of arrival, relative power levels, and/or probability density functions for signal directions of arrival when they are not known exactly. It is shown that the optimal signal estimators derived are equivalent to the classical adaptive nulling techniques of Howells-Applebaum, least-mean-square, and Frost when supplied with certain prior information, and that in several cases, the resulting expressions for the optimal weights have forms to which well-known adaptation procedures can be readily applied.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121738598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While this approach has been used with BPSK (binary phase shift keying) and QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying), its application to multilevel modulation schemes (M>4) is novel and of interest because it provides a viable alternative to rotationally invariant codes. This approach does not require any arithmetic computations and can be accomplished with minimal hardware. The results presented here are being used to implement a 32-sector phase-quantized TCM system utilizing 8 PSK modulation.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123196653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The newly issued DoD IPSO (Internet Protocol Security Option) provides one octet for the security classification of each datagram transmitted. The current scheme requires a Hamming distance of four between any two valid values. The determination of the values in this octet is a nontrivial problem and presents some interesting properties. The authors discuss the complexity of the problem, its generalization, and the properties of the octet value assignment.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134516205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The channel separations and channel filter characteristics used are typical of VHF/UHF military satcom links. Two types of detection methods are used-integrate-and-dump, which is typical of current SBPSK receivers, and maximum likelihood sequence detection, which makes use of the inherent memory of the SBPSK signal to improve performance in the interference environment. The results indicate that, with the possibility of oscillator instability offsetting the desired spectrum within the passband of the channel filter, it is better to go with a wide channel filter and accept more adjacent channel interference than to use a narrow filter and suffer additional degradation due to frequency offsets.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134635949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object was to generate soft information for the convolutional decoder in the system and thus improve its error correcting capability. The nature of the problem implied that a solution with neural networks would be of interest. Computer simulations demonstrated that a two-layered network with two neurons in the first layer and one output neuron gives the best results. The results show that a neural network and the chosen convolutional code together have an extensive error correcting capability. For example, one could transmit information essentially correctly, despite the fact that noise, causing a bit error rate of 1.5% on all the used frequencies, was added to the channel and an active jammer completely corrupted a fourth of the frequencies used.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133697707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data rates of 650 Mb/s were achieved with low implementation loss and two-sample/symbol operation using high-speed digital GaAs logic in the front and back end, with the majority of the computationally intensive signal processing implemented in CMOS VLSI. Using a parallel architecture combined with multirate digital signal processing means that receiver speed is no longer limited to the speed of the signal processing hardware elements, but only by the speed of the analog-to-digital converters. In addition to unsurpassed data rate levels, superior bit error rate (BER) performance has been achieved using a joint feedforward and feedback timing estimator and data recovery algorithm. Laboratory performance results for the hardware demonstration receiver are presented as well as a detailed discussion of the hardware implementation and signal processing algorithms.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130268419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the NTTC is to restore last mile connectivity to remote isolated areas in the United States or abroad that have been devastated by hurricanes, earthquakes, or other natural or man-made disasters. The NTTC is self-contained for rapid airlift in a single C-130 military transport, or may be transported by land or sea. The system is leased service that uses commercially available equipment to augment federal government communications during natural disasters or civil emergencies when the public switched network (PSN) may be disabled or nonexistent. Upon deployment, the NTTC will provide toll-quality duplex telephony to aid in coordinating relief efforts by establishing local cellular radio telephone communications among parties to the relief effort and linking those communications by satellite to the PSN in Clarksburg, Maryland.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114394720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
