The propagation prediction models, composed of 3-D diffraction and ray tracing, are being implemented as software tools on SUN computer workstations. A geographical information system software package is being used to interface building and terrain data with the propagation prediction programs. Early work at Virginia Tech's Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group shows that the predicted signal strengths are within a few decibels of average measured signal strengths for some test cases.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123954557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results of preliminary feasibility demonstrations are discussed in three critical technology areas: (1) input and output appliances that offer noise immunity, (2) voice recognition and speech synthesis accuracy, and (3) command and control vocabulary development and application dependencies. Ear-canal microphones and speakers are examined for their natural noise immunity attributes. State-of-the-art voice recognition algorithms provide speaker-independent qualities that need no soldier training, prior to use, with the added benefit of maintaining accuracy when the speaker is stressed or fatigued. Integration of the voice input and outpuuevices with existing C2 (command and control) systems is discussed in the context of user friendly and natural ways of supporting operations on the move.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116660270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though the problem is NP-complete, good heuristics do exist that can provide near-optimal solutions with negligible computation time. An investigation of different heuristics shows the merit of each approach. It is noted that two major improvements can be made over the linear search algorithms: constrained range (CR) and reduced candidate set (RCS). The search of constrained restricted candidate set (CRCS) has been proven to be the best known heuristic for solving the link enhancement problems: The annealing process or the (r+1)/sup st/ chance algorithm can piggy back on a CRCS solution and improves it to the optimal one with negligible incremental computation time.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116718484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cost function is an augmented version of CRIMNO, which also includes the mean square error (MSE) criterion between the outputs of the multichannel equalizers. It is shown that by forcing the outputs of the equalizers to be equal, as it should be during perfect equalization, the convergence of the CRIMNO-MSE technique is faster than that of the individual single-channel CRIMNO algorithms. Two additional hybrid schemes, which use a finite length memory window to form the MSE of the outputs of the equalizers, are developed. These schemes are called the CRIMNO-MSEM and the CMA-MSEM, where the final M denotes the memory length. Simulation results justify the performance of the new algorithms against single-channel CRIMNO algorithms.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115231237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the results, they evaluate pairwise error probabilities for coded systems using majority vote decision (MVD) decoding with or without jamming state information (JSI). They find the optimum tone jamming strategies from the jammer's point of view and their worst case pairwise error probabilities from the communicator's point of view for various levels of background noise interference. It is found that the performance for MVD decoding with JSI is better than that for MVD decoding without JSI when noise interference is low. This result is reversed when noise interference is low. It is also found that the optimum value of the clipping level is always less than the signaling power level in low to moderate interference conditions.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127280648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the software applications viewpoint, however, the program is clumsy, slow, and complicated, as it allows only those users who have sufficient background in ionospheric physics and experience in computer data entry to operate the software. The authors discuss a new version of IONCAP that avoids those obvious user-unfriendly shortcomings and provides the further advantage of enhanced capability to the extent that a lay person can use it for various modern HF applications. The fundamental tool applied is the Microsoft-based Windows technology.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127476739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To generate the QPSK signal, the in-phase (I)-channel takes the data bit sequence and the quadrature-phase (Q)-channel takes the copy of the data sequence with implementation time delay t/sub 0/. The bit error probability (BEP) degradation due to time misalignment t/sub 0/ and phase jitter at the Costas loop in a BPSK demodulation for the QPSK signal was derived. It was observed that the BEP difference between two systems, the BPSK signal with BPSK demodulation and the QPSK signal with BPSK demodulation, is small when t/sub 0/ is less than 10% of the data bit time interval and the closed-loop bandwidth is less than 1% of the data rate. However, it was observed that the degradation in the BEP increases and gets worse for time misalignment t/sub 0/ larger than 10% of the bit time interval even when closed-loop bandwidth is small, such as 1% of the data rate.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126363299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Users in the system use complex signature sequences. A bounding technique is used to obtain arbitrarily tight upper and lower bounds on the probability of bit error. Numerical results are presented for Frank-Zadoff-Chu (FZC) and near-optimal four-phase complex sequences, as well as binary Gold sequences, for binary phase shift keying, (BPSK), 4-PSK, and 8-PSK. Results show that complex sequences can yield better performance than binary sequences in MPSK signaling. Using complex sequences, the number of signature sequences with good correlation properties is greatly enlarged.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125114916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the distribution of an M/D/1 queue with the arrival rate and the server idle probability suitably modified. The approximation is easy to calculate and is found to be quite accurate for a wide range of values simulated. Since the Laplace-Stieltjes transform (LST) of the distribution is also known, it is relatively easy to estimate the distribution of the edge-to-edge delay through the ATM network. By assuming statistical independence of the delay performance among the ATM nodes, and that the output process of a node is still approximately deterministic, the LST of the edge-to-edge delay distribution is the product of the individual LSTs and can be inverted using standard Laplace inversion techniques.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":394587,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 92 Conference Record","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125125946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
