The following section of paper presents a few selected reflections of pedagogical scholars as well as scholars representing other fields of science, i.e. critical observers of reality who are not indifferent to the problems of the contemporary world and the need for upbringing which could help people to become better. The author’s research was designed to find out how class teachers and the schools are engaged in today’s upbringing measures, with the aim of promoting and shaping students’ active prosocial behaviour. A survey-based research was conducted at 24 schools in the Opole Province between 2018 and 2019. The participants were teachers of secondary school graduation classes and principals of schools included in the research. The article presents chosen research results. In the final part, author’s observations are made in the light of the opinions of the scholars indicating the need for and importance of upbringing a person to enjoy harmonious relations with others. It’s described on basis of author’s own research works and analyses, in reference to the so-called “reflective cognitive approach” in the social sciences, presented by Giddens, Sztompka, Bourdieu and studies and analyses on the basis of pedeutology (Czerepaniak-Walczak, Kwiatkowska, Mizerek, Klus-Stańska, Gołębniak). In this text, in addition to referring to the aforementioned trends and concepts, the approach of Margaret S. Archer is introduced, in which the three components of subjectivity, reflexivity and agency are closely related and determine the essence of man as a person. In this way, author exposes the issue of the teacher as a person. This perspective, along with the social approach, in the current conditions (due to their technological complications and global tensions), is particularly desirable. Meanwhile, these are neglected issues in Polish education policy; the teacher’s (technical) competence model (limited professionalism) does not seem to be enough while facing constant changes in the socio-political arena and in the media. They affect the axiological condition of teachers, cause their identity confusion, uncertainty, low sense of subjectivity, lack of strong legitimacy and trust in society. The article also addresses the issue of education to reflectivity as the basic subjective competence of the teacher, the quality of his person, education as a task of modern education and the education and professional development of teachers.\u0000\u0000\u0000

Unfortunately, the latter aspect is lacking in children in foster care (especially in institutional care). The researches and analyses of analyzed phenomenon allow to conclude that children in foster care are often a neglected group in terms of upbringing, education, personal models, values, and life priorities. Foster care should be an educational environment designed to compensate for deficiencies in the care, upbringing, or education of the child entrusted to it, including gifted children. Research on the educational opportunities for gifted foster care children was carried out in 6 Polish voivodeships: Lublin, Warmia-Masuria, Podlasie, Subcarpathia, Świętokrzyskie and Masovia, over a two years period – from April 2018 to June 2020. The research was quantitative and qualitative in nature. The research aimed to diagnose and describe the distance education of students with mild intellectual disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of teachers. The study consisted of answering questions contained in a survey disseminated by the Internet. 114 correctly completed surveys were collected. In the light of the results, teachers are more convinced that it is possible to implement the core curriculum during distance education than the educational, and especially caring function of the school. Teachers also expressed the opinion that distance learning exacerbates rather than equalizes differences between students, which is particularly worrying for students with mild intellectual disabilities.

Perhaps even talking about „on-line” vs „off-line” is a thing of the past, since some of us are always online. Remote learning changes the approach to school and extracurricular education and affects all levels of education. An important aspect of considerations on school and academic e-learning is so called the bottom-up push, i.e. the involvement of enthusiasts discovering the secrets of e-learning platforms in front of their pupils and the willingness of these pupils and students. Observing the changes implemented in the education system over the last decades, we can honestly state, that these were rather sham movements, unable to change the class-lesson system and its elements burdening us as the subjects of the education process. What happened, then? What powers have changed school and academic education, so that we have found ourselves in the digital world? Have we started using mobile solutions? Can we conduct online classes? Is this a necessary evil or an opportunity for tomorrow (for universities/schools, students/pupils, lecturers/teachers and for modern, constantly learning societies)? Distance learning contributes to creating new spaces for educational interactions. It enables both mass and individual education in synchronous and asynchronous modes.
