The anatomical, physiological, and biochemical adjustments are significant during pregnancy, starting soon after fertilization and continuing throughout pregnancy. Reasons for pain during pregnancy include hormonal changes, increased weight, postural variations and impaired strength and co-ordination of abdominal and pelvic muscles. Musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy can have a significant negative impact on day to day functioning. Objectives: To determine the level of musculoskeletal discomforts in pregnancy, to explore the relationship between the musculoskeletal discomfort and quality of life in pregnancy and to associate the selected demographic variables with musculoskeletal discomfort in pregnancy. Methods: Cross-sectional research design was used. 323 antenatal mothers, gestational age more than 20 weeks, attending antenatal OPD of a tertiary care hospital of western Rajasthan were selected with the convenient sampling technique. Pregnancy musculoskeletal discomforts were assessed by Pregnancy Induced Musculoskeletal Dysfunctional Scale (PMDS) and quality of life (QOL) was assessed by the WHOQOL-BREF scoring questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyse the data. Results: Pregnant women reported most frequently the low back pain (60%) and leg cramps (42%) and majority of them experienced mild form of pain. Result also showed the number of symptoms increased with progressing trimester. In case of quality of life, less than 50% of pregnant women reported with average and poor quality of life. The quality of life was found to be negatively correlated with various level of intensity of musculoskeletal pain. Conclusion: Among various musculoskeletal dysfunctions, low back pain and leg cramp are the most common symptoms of all and it affects the quality of life in pregnancy in different dimensions of health. Considering this aspect would help health care professionals to offer appropriate care and education in view of prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunctions and promote health of mother during pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":392369,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Nursing & Midwifery Research","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122758813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the hospital setting preterm babies are in skilled hands of nurses and pediatricians. After discharge mother needs to have adequate knowledge related to the care of the baby at home to prevent preterm mortality, hence the present study was undertaken to assess the awareness of mothers on the care of premature infants at home after discharge from NICU with a view to develop and disseminate an information booklet on premature infant care to the mothers at the selected hospital of Delhi. Awareness scores were correlated with selected demographic variables. The quantitative descriptive research approach was adopted for the study with non-experimental research design. The non-probability, purposive sampling technique was used and sample comprised of 50 mothers. An interview was conducted to collect the data through structured interview schedule. Out of 50 mothers, 47 (94%) had average, 2 (4%) had poor and 1 (2%) had good awareness. No significance was found between the awareness scores of the mother with the age, religion, educational qualification, family type, number of children type of delivery and registration during antenatal period. Association was found between awareness of mothers and their occupation, area of residence, and total family monthly income. It was found that the mothers were least aware of the prevention of hypothermia and basic concepts about the prematurity. Awareness about nutrition and prevention of infections was found to be average though mothers were well aware about immunization of preterm children. \u0000How to cite this article:Negi H, Rani S, Sarkar S. There are many home remedies being used to treat common cold. One such home remedy is the use of Tulsi leaves and turmeric in steam inhalation. The main aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of steam inhalation with Tulsi leaves and turmeric versus steam inhalation with plain water. A quantitative approach with quasi-experimental non- equivalent groups design was used. Sample comprised of 60 patients who were having common cold for not more than 2 days selected through purposive sampling. Study subjects in the experimental group were given steam inhalation with Tulsi leaves and turmeric while in the control group with plain water twice a day for three days. Common cold was assessed before and after the intervention through a checklist and the scores were recorded. Study was conducted in a community setting in Delhi. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. In the present study, there was difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of common cold in control as well as experimental groups. When the post-intervention scores of control and experimental group were compared, the t value was 4.14 at df (58) at 0.05 level of significance, which was found to be significant. This shows that steam inhalation with Tulsi leaves and turmeric is more effective than steam inhalation with plain water in relieving symptoms of common cold. \u0000How to cite this article:Saleem AM, Rani S, Daniel S.
