This study investigates the impact of human resource policies on the performance of construction organizations in Bahrain using the Baron-Kenny method. This method gives the direct and indirect effect between human resource policies and organization performance where the employee performance is used as a mediator. A self-administrated questionnaire is developed and validated where the study is conducted on 154 construction employees with a response rate of about 38 percent. The results are shown that there is a direct and indirect statistically significant impact of human resource policies on the performance of construction organizations. In the existence of the mediator in the model, the indirect effect of human resource policies on construction organization performance is more than double of direct effect. Moreover, the mediation effect of employees performance is confirmed using the Sobel test. This study adds to few studies that have empirically inspected a global model of employee performance as a mediator in the construction sector and considers one of the few of its type undertaken in Bahrain's construction sector context.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128574199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces and demonstrates a comprehensive, feasible and applicable pedagogical framework in which sustainability can be explicitly fostered as an intrinsic value to its students by using the principles of Values-based Education in an Education for Sustainable Development context. Following a literature review and a series of two surveys, Values-based Education for Sustainable Development (VbESD) was defined. It is an approach developed from the opportunity identified that combines the roots of what is needed-the development of positive values, quality education, and sustainable development-in order to nurture engaged, responsible citizens who can create the needed social change for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128659618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, this information is crucial for management decision-making in the agricultural sector, especially in irrigated sectors, such as the Sidi Bennour case, where agricultural activity is intensive. This area is part of the Doukkala irrigated perimeter known, in Morocco, for its importance in agricultural production. Remote sensing has become essential for monitoring the vegetation state and crop mapping. Our study's main objective is crop mapping using earth observation data with three spatial resolutions: 10, 15, and 30 m (Sentinel-2, pancharpened Landsat-8 image, and the original Landsat-8 image, respectively). Two classification methods, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Maximum Likelihood (ML), have been applied to discriminate the different crop types. The SVM method gave the best results for all three spatial resolutions. Also, pansharpening has improved the classification for the Landsat-8 image.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121747699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such conditions produce excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, which exacerbates global warming potential and negatively affects climate change. Therefore, chemical gas waste management stands as a necessity to resolve this exacerbating situation. This research paper explores the factors and causes that shape chemical gas management initiatives in this region, based on a comprehensive literature review and selective interviews with the automobile and construction companies, environmental solutions firms, and some employees in the public sectors in the region. The gathered data is processed to deduce feasible and practical solutions by adopting the Impact-Effort Matrix and a SWOT analysis that illustrates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Finally, the conclusion and recommendations suggest closer partnerships between environmental solutions companies through an official law by the authorities of environmental issues.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130283972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Net present value and internal rate of return methods were used for model evaluation with the guide of a simple payback period calculation. The study identified the range of the PV system's market price that renders the system feasible to install. The results were related to the subsidized as well as the unsubsidized electricity tariffs. The study also highlighted the importance of providing governmental financial support to promote renewable energy in the Kingdom of Bahrain. To capitalize on the PV installation benefits, its impact on the stakeholders - beyond the household - was also investigated. Advantages such as reducing natural gas consumption and related emissions, potential benefits to the Electricity and Water Authority, creating a new line of jobs in the local market, and raising awareness were discussed.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127392024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Almurbati","doi":"10.1109/IEEECONF53624.2021.9668022","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IEEECONF53624.2021.9668022","url":null,"abstract":"Persona is a design methodology that exemplifies targets users as fictional, detailed archetypical characters that represent distinct groupings of behaviours, goals and motivations observed and identified by the designer during the research phase of a design project. The persona method has developed from being a user cantered design methodology for IT systems to be applied in many other contexts, including the development of products, marketing, communication strategy, and service design. The method is used to communicate targeted customers' needs, allow the designer to switch between the user's perspective and the designer role and orient design teams to user experience. Despite the importance of understanding users in the interior design field, minimal research about using persona for interior designers has been recorded. This research aims to present the value of using user persona maps in designing resilience interiors, looking at a co-working space as an example. The research methodology developed persona maps as a diagnostic tool for interior designers to help design resilience interiors by understanding space users. The paper goal will be achieved by investigating persona maps as a tool for interior designers to help them understand, analyse and communicate users' needs in designing interior spaces. The customised persona model is modified to include a narrative, picture, and name to provide interior designers with a vivid and detailed representation of the design target. The results of this research are based on three qualitative phases with the participation of 46 designers; through the continuous analysis of persona maps and design implementation, this research documents the benefits of incorporating personas into different design processes. Then elaborates on difficulties experienced within the suggested model and contribute to the body of knowledge by producing a practical model that can be the starting point of a successful project brief, client's ambitions and users' requirements realisation in a project space. The findings of persona usages in the interior design of the suggested co-working space showed how persona enriched various design process phases as interior designers continuously referred to persona analysis during the conceptualisation and schematic design phases. Additionally, persona helped designers design a resilient interior by demonstrating ways of understanding and interpreting user needs and helped filter user information to develop guidelines and design components that responded to users' hidden needs. Moreover, the user's persona helped the Interior Designers bridge the gap between a theoretical understanding of users in space and design for them. The findings revealed that persona could be in the aesthetical form of the resulting space design and the long-term value and functionality of space, making it a more resilient interior aid.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126552702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sunlight and heat continue to shine and blow even though their availability is dependent on time and temperature. While capturing nature's power is typically considered a novel technology, it has traditionally been used for transportation, lighting, and other purposes. This study aims to design a clean energy system by using solar and thermal techniques that will generate a hybrid, clean energy continuously from the solar panels and Thermoelectric generators. In this study, we revealed that the design characteristics of the clean energy system's stability after the first conversion of solar and thermal energies can have a big impact on overall efficiencies, which dictate both economics and lifetime. The applications of this system will be highly used in commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"63 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120913762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reddy","doi":"10.1109/IEEECONF53624.2021.9668184","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IEEECONF53624.2021.9668184","url":null,"abstract":"The sustainability of water resources depends on various factors, out of which one is a precise assessment of crop water requirements, in turn, the crop coefficients. Therefore, in this research, efforts are being made to generate a precise crop coefficient model to determine crop coefficients. The sugarcane is one among several vital crops cultivated in the Anakapalle research area. This study focused primarily on the evolution of crop coefficient (K<inf>c</inf>) models for sugarcane. The crop evapotranspiration (ET<inf>c</inf>) observed using a lysimeter, and reference evapotranspiration (ET<inf>0</inf>) assessed with the Penman-Monteith technique (proposed by FAO-56) was adopted in the study. The ET<inf>c</inf>and ET<inf>0</inf>values are substituted in K<inf>c</inf>= ET<inf>c</inf>/ ET<inf>0</inf>to obtain K<inf>c</inf>values. Graphs were plotted using the K<inf>c</inf>values on the y-axis and the days, weeks, or months after sowing the crop on the x-axis. The best curve fitting for these values in the graph is observed as a third-order polynomial curve, and the equation of the curve is considered as the K<inf>c</inf>model. The various statistical indicators are used to assess the capabilities of the K<inf>c</inf>models. It has been inveterate that the K<inf>c</inf>model functions effectively in both the phases of training and testing. The efficiencies of the K<inf>c</inf>models were observed as 82.32%. 92.47%, and 98.44% for daily, weekly, and monthly time phases, respectively. Thus, K<inf>c</inf>models could help predict K<inf>c</inf>values of sugarcane crops in the research area. It could be applied with a fair degree of precision in other places with similar climatic features to the research area.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121042035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tall buildings with irregular forms are designed and built today with the help of computational technologies. This paper reviews two parts. In the first part, it collects and discusses a wide range of fragmented criticisms and concerns that may be associated with tall building lifestyles around three pillars of sustainable development, such as social, environmental, and economic; in order to examine gaps and guide the technological direction of tall building design in the future. Secondly, this paper describes a unique design technique based on a parametric approach by utilizing computational tool components.
