Severe annual yield reductions of potato and other crops due to P. latus infestations occur globally. Mite infestation causes damage to leaf edges, which curl as result of heavy infestation. The foliage may also become rigid, bronze, or silver in appearance. Polyphagotarsonemus latus was recorded in Iraq in 1997, where the only effective method to reduce the mite population is the use of pesticides. Elucidating the genetic structure of P. latus populations is important since it is one of the keystones of mite management. This study examined the genetic structure of P. latus in Baghdad based on cytochrome oxidase I (COI) polymorphisms. Results showed that P. latus populations collected from potatoes and tomatoes at the north, south, east, and west of Baghdad province have ten lineages, five on each plant species. Since this is the first study of population genetic structure of P. latus, the results will facilitate further investigations of P. latus populations and might be one of the cornerstones of using technology such as RNAi and CRISPR to efficiently control P. latus populations.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125692664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Still, SPV power is an impure soft energy since the expenses and carbon releases combined with the industrial and processes. Furthermore, the productivity of the SPV approach is considerably influenced by such area atmosphere and built environment including energy controlling and storage techniques. Thus, it is critical to evaluate SPV structures applying combined metrics for a full awareness of the gain advantages. Therefore, this research did a life-cycle system to support SPV system evaluation in existing circumstances by recognizing the structural aspects that influence SPV system competence, by assessing energy, carbon or investment profit stages; and conversing the carbon offsetting in many types of energy storing circumstances. Case study shows that utilizing PV-battery techniques is an efficient approach to develop energy resilience and carbon offsetting. Furthermore, public space is further beneficial than household-level space. Practice and outcomes of the research are supposed to assist the improvement of cost-effective low-carbon energy source and to encourage the best preparation of low-carbon districts.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127229119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the properties of plastics which are non-biodegradable have created serious environmental problems especially polluting the oceans, harming marine organisms, and putting them at risks of extinction. At the same time, conventionally used construction materials such as clay bricks and concrete blocks also lead to other environmental issue such as the over-utilization of natural resources and emission of greenhouse gases. In current study, waste polyethylene terephthalate was used as a sand replacement in the production of interlocking concrete blocks for masonry wall application. Concrete mixtures with various percentages of PET were produced and evaluated for compressive strength and split tensile strength. In addition, microstructural characterization was also performed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The recycling of waste PET in the production of concrete interlocking blocks will produce sustainability in the construction industry.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121887363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Not only they contaminate the environment but plastic also poses health risks to wildlife. Biodegradation of plastics by microbes is one possible solution to this problem. Microbial degradation of plastics means breaking down plastic polymers into its monomers and oligomers by microbes. Literature review with predefined criteria using the online databases of Scopus and Web of Science were used to find papers on microbial biodegradation of polymers. The objective of this study is to review already done research to find out appropriate microbial species capable of performing effective biodegradation of plastic and to compare the result of biodegradation of plastic polymer involving different kind of pretreatment strategies. This review study concluded Pseudomonas and Arthrobacter specie degraded high density polythene 15% and 12% respectively. Almost 8% of low density polythene degraded by Pseudomonas species. Aspergillus glaucus was efficient which degraded Polythene 28.80%. Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus japonicas degraded low density polythene 8% and 12% respectively. Anabaena spiroides (blue-green alga) degraded Polythene by 8.18%. Pretreatment had marked effect on the cracking and alteration of plastic polymer which helped to grow microbial species on cracked surface. After pre-treatment Bacillus subtilis degraded polythene by 9.26%. Rhizopus oryzae degraded 8.4% of low density polythene after heating at 70 °C for 10 days and washing with ethanol.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125032770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The outcomes of these predictions form an important part of the understanding and control risks of flooding knowledge for the authorities, planners and the general public. The hydrological data could be used to analyze the river system's reaction to deep rainfall and to draw up flood hydrographs with fair precision using the required rainfall-runoff model from the details of the rainfall. The aim of this study to understand the rainfall and water level trend for the last 11 years which was used to estimate the flow discharge derived from rainfall data for Batu Pahat, Johor. The data of rainfall and water level was collected from DID Malaysia for two different stations in Batu Pahat, which represent the rainfall and water level data for the last 10 years. Mann Kendall method was utilized to analyses the trend of these hydrological data. While the HEC-HMS software was used to estimate the flow discharge data that applied the suitable analyses method. Mann Kendall test shows the Kendall's tau value was −0.233 and −0.437 for rainfall and water level respectively. The indicated a decreasing trend for both parameters but the trend is no significant. This might be due to the missing data within these 10 years. By referring to the discharge result, it shows that the value of runoff is increase with the increasing of rainfall where the maximum value of discharge is about 960.6 cfs. Thus, based on this value, it could give an insight to the local authority to plan their strategy to accommodate this discharge within the river reach to minimize the flood event.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"290 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131385549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oral folklore is particularly at threat since the local citizens cannot earn a decent living from traditional practices and jobs. This paper explores feasible solutions for sustaining oral folklore of the GCC through three different ways: mobile museums, UN partnerships, and national policies. Each of these proposed methods is analysed through a GAP analysis, where the researchers compare an ideal scenario to the recurrent problems and hurdles faced on the ground. The paper presents successful experiments of sustaining oral folklore as a model to be adopted in this region to bridge this gap. Finally, the paper concludes that oral folklore should be closely tied to the national policies and visions created to combat climate change in this region.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122317874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some argue that this acts as a way of maintaining the colonial imperial and economic interests that were operating during the last two centuries. According to some thinkers, Islamic architecture nowadays is neglected, overlooked and considered an old and conventional style from the past, which does not necessarily fit into the contemporaneous life conditions. As a result of this, most of the architectural features and components in the Islamic world, like the courtyard, became not needed anymore. In fact, such component which incorporated socio-cultural and environmental values, had been substituted with sealed, air-conditioned spaces. The local vernacular architecture in |Bahrain as well as the whole cultural identity had been changed, and could not fight against the massive change in the way of life that emerged alongside the extensive wealth, especially in the Arabian part of the Islamic world. This paper discusses the value of the courtyard as an element that could be revived to contribute to the people's lives post pandemic, which revealed a serious need for changing domestic places to facilitate the newly emerging needs.","PeriodicalId":389608,"journal":{"name":"2021 Third International Sustainability and Resilience Conference: Climate Change","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133036810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
