This contrasts with the\u0000standard analysis of quirky subjects according to which quirky\u0000subjects are regular subjects bearing lexical case and therefore\u0000differ only morphologically from regular subjects. Based on the\u0000behavior of quirky subjects in Faroese and German, I argue that the\u0000syntactic account is superior. Faroese shows that the case borne by a\u0000quirky subject is not lexical, whereas German shows that quirky\u0000subjects are not regular subjects to begin with. In this paper I critically assess some recent\u0000work in LFG which provides ‘mixed category’ analyses.
