We develop a laser-pointer system for supporting human computer interaction, in which a user can use a laser pointer to draw trajectories and send commands to a computer. It can also be used to do object tracking or support other applications as well.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114290105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To extract motion feature, the method first divides the video into segments. The obtained segments are then clustered based on the similarity of the extracted motion feature. The key point is how to divide the video at the first step of the method. Though a simple approach is to divide the video into segments with the same length, this approach cannot deal with the difference of food processing techniques in cooking. Instead, we propose an approach based on object access, namely the moments when a chef picks up or puts down objects. It is expected to obtain segments reflecting such difference. We compare our method with methods using fixed lengths on three cooking videos in the KUSK Dataset, and evaluate the performance for clustering.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129718427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is difficult to perceive the emotion of some disabled people through their facial expression, such as functional autism patient. EEG signal provides us a non-invasive way to recognize the emotion of these disable people through EEG headset electrodes placed on their scalp. In this paper, we propose a deep learning algorithm to simultaneously learn the features and classify the emotions of EEG signals. It differs from the conventional methods as we apply deep learning on the raw signal without explicit hand-crafted feature extraction. Because the EEG signal has subject dependency, it is better to train the emotion model subject-wise, while there is not much epochs available for each subject. Deep learning algorithm provides a solution with a pre-training way using three layers of restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs). Thus, we can use epochs of all subjects to pre-training the deep network, and use back-propagation to fine tuning the network subject by subject. Experiment results show that our proposed framework achieves better recognition accuracy than conventional algorithms.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128445385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method uses the scattering of fingerprint residues to make latent fingerprints visible. It could be used in situations where contact less and fast work is required, e.g. when searching for fingerprints on improvised explosive devices (IED). Also, this method can be used in one practical device that is appropriate for the work at crime scenes where mobile systems are needed. The designed embedded system runs on a low cost Raspberry Pi. Furthermore, it displays results on a touch-screen which makes it very user friendly. The developed system is integrated in a case with the optic elements to test the method and the system in practice.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131704582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital photography, however, imposes new challenges for keeping photos accessible on the long run due to threats such as hard disk crashes, format changes, or storage medium decay. Safe long-term preservation, ensuring the longevity of photos, comes at a cost, suggesting a restriction of this investment to the most valuable photos. Therefore, understanding how people behave when selecting their most valuable photos from large collections is an important first step towards the development of automatic preservation approaches. In this paper, we conduct a user study of 35 participants in selecting personal photos for long-term preservation. The results of the study provide insights for the photo selection process. In addition, we propose a photo selection method based on machine learning and compared human selections with leading edge clustering techniques, highlighting significant issues in emulating human decision patterns.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131816229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our method is an improvement of the prior work [1], which is based on background sprite model construction for hole-filling. First, the possible flaw areas in the original view are detected and then an alpha matting technique is used to combine two information sources from the foreground and the background to improve the quality of the synthesized view. Experimental results show that our proposed method is capable of resolving such a kind of flaws regardless of complex or simple background, thus making our view synthesis result close to those synthesized with ideal or flawless foreground depths.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126584217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This far more complex and sophisticated than the traditional 2D technology raises the major problem of how users perceive quality of 3D video. This paper studies user experience for 3D video streaming that takes into account the spatial and temporal information of the video, the resolution, the quantization step size, as well as, wireless network related parameters from the physical, the data link and the network layers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of each of these key performance indicators in order to efficiently model 3D video user experience in wireless networks. Such a model can be exploited by network selection algorithms so as to accurately predict user experience based on these indicators.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131659694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method does not rely in a previous pose estimation but people segmentation. Therefore, novel and classic segmentation techniques have been considered and improved in order to achieve accurate people segmentation. Unlike other methods described in the literature, the output is the bounding box and the predominant color of the different clothes and not a pixel level segmentation. The proposal is based on dividing the person area into an initial fixed number of stripes, that are later fused according to similar color distribution. To assess the quality of the proposed method the experiments are carried out with the Fashionista dataset that is widely used in the fashion parsing community.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116275943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our architecture places a caching proxy in the path between an MMT server and its clients. Between an MMT server and a caching proxy, we exploit the popular HTTP protocol to reliably synchronize the video contents by their fragments while the caching proxy delivers the MMT asset to the clients via the standard MMTP protocol. This split architecture not only allows distributing the load on theMMT server but also supports MMT clients without any modification on the MMTP protocol. Furthermore, our architecture supports content-based caching with little run-time overhead, eliminating any redundant network transfers.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121040311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The availability of wearable devices recording exactly what the user is looking at is ineluctable and the opportunities and challenges carried by this kind of devices are broad. Particularly, for the first time a device is so intimate with the user to be able to record the movements of his hands, making hand-based applications for First Person Vision one the most explored area in the field. This paper explores the more popular processing steps to develop hand-based applications, and proposes a hierarchical structure that optimally switches between each of the levels to reduce the computational cost of the system and improve its performance.","PeriodicalId":388471,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo Workshops (ICMEW)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121192814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
