The aim of treatment is to improve the patient's dermatological condition and improve the overall quality of life. Pharmacists play a very important role in the care of acne patients and this article reviews opportunities for pharmaceutical care of such patients. Pharmacists can identify patients with different forms of acne, engage in acne prevention including lifestyle modifications, and contribute to optimizing the choice and use of appropriate pharmacotherapy accompanied by non-pharmacological approaches according to the specific patient characteristics. The mainstay of acne treatment is topical pharmacotherapy, where over-the-counter products containing benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid may be recommended for mild to moderate forms of acne. Retinoids or their combination with antibiotics are prescribed for moderate and severe forms of acne. When topical treatment is ineffective or resistant, systemic treatment including for example oral antibiotics or isotretinoin is considered. Pharmacists thus engage themselves in maximizing the effect and minimizing the risks of these drugs and, last but not least, educating patients on how to properly care for their skin using so called dermocosmetics, which is defined in this article.</p>","PeriodicalId":38771,"journal":{"name":"Ceska a Slovenska Farmacie","volume":"73 3","pages":"148-155"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143410991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is very brief, with 28 pages in quarto format. The paper deals with the paratext of the Košice Antidotarium. It contains a translation of all its parts from Latin into Slovak as well as a commentary on them. The parts of the paratext are the title page, the preface, the appendix, the approval of the doctors and the colophon. The preface names two reasons for the publication, one, to try to restore the reputation of the city pharmacy, the other, to help the health of the reader, the city of Košice and the whole Upper Hungary. The paratext mentions three times the removal of old, ineffective medicines, which were even burned in public. The author of the text, the provisor Thaurenti, begs the reader to trust this work and invites him to cooperate.</p>","PeriodicalId":38771,"journal":{"name":"Ceska a Slovenska Farmacie","volume":"73 2","pages":"124-128"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143543898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is not known whether this is also considered in the care of inpatients. The aim of this study was to describe and analyse the current practice of medication administration in relation to food and beverages to patients hospitalized in four hospitals in the Czech Republic. This study was conducted based on the results of the first phase of a prospective observation study focused on the safety of medication administration performed by nurses. All data, including the timing of medication administration in relation to food and the data on beverages used, were obtained by the method of direct observation. The team of observersaccompanied the nurse during medication administration. The appropriateness of the medication administration in relationto food/beverages was assessed according to the summary of product characteristics and the published literature. In total, the administration of 5718 oral medications and 198 insulins were analysed. Unproper food timing wasobserved in 15.7% of oral medication administrations and 26.8% of insulin administrations. The highest number ofunproper food timing occurred in the proton pump inhibitors, antihypertensives, and prokinetics. Tea (63.4%) was the most used beverage. Errors with clinically serious impact have been observed in some groups of drugs. The necessity of a systemic approach in management of medication administration is required including interdisciplinary cooperation.</p>","PeriodicalId":38771,"journal":{"name":"Ceska a Slovenska Farmacie","volume":"72 6","pages":"303-310"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139724401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prevalence of drug-related hospitalizations was 12% (95% confidence interval 10-13). In 62% of cases, medications only contributed to the cause of hospitalization. Antithrombotics, cytostatics, diuretics, and systemic corticosteroids were the most common medication classes leading to drug-related hospitalizations. A sore throat is one of the most common reasons for visiting a pharmacy. According to current knowledge, the biggest pitfall of sore throat management is the systematic and reliable classification of patients into uncomplicated and potentially complicated cases, which should ideally take place at the level of pre-medical care, i.e. in a pharmacy. For this purpose, the practical use of the self-treatment algorithm in the therapy of sore throat was presented in the article. The introduction of a systematic algorithm into pharmacy practice could contribute to higher efficacy of the provided care and reduce the risk of overlooking warning symptoms (red flags). The article also provides an overview of over the counter therapeutic options for sore throat.</p>","PeriodicalId":38771,"journal":{"name":"Ceska a Slovenska Farmacie","volume":"73 4","pages":"252-260"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143434079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
