A questionnaire completed by bilingual English speakers as well as direct interviews on the teaching of this subject, made it possible to identify a set of pitfalls faced by English-speaking learners. This exploratory research would like to analyze the didactic and pedagogical implications of this literature dispensed in a bilingual series. This study encourages us to rethink the epistemological scope of this discipline.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, it briefly reviews a selection of scholarly publications with a view to clarifying the meanings of the term ‘retranslation’ and to identify factors that underlie this necessity and the strategies translators resort to during the process. Secondly, the paper proceeds with a qualitative analysis of two Romanian versions produced by the same translator (Petru Comarnescu) of Daniel Defoe’s novel entitled “Robinson Crusoe”.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":"32 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139530009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This activity is based on the textbooks in the program. The pedagogical use of these textbooks reveals a proliferation of languages in contact. Borrowing from the general theory of reception, this study is based on a hundred occurrences extracted from African works used as reading manuals in French programs in Cameroon in order to exploit, analyze and interpret the varieties of French present in these works. The study of ethno-signs and socio-culturemes has enabled us to identify African phraseology and onomastics, learn through orality, and determine the didactic value of songs. Analyzing the significance of the diversity of languages in the examined works reveals a multilingual syntax which refers to a linguistic dynamism or even a questioning of linguistic purism. From these readings, there emerges a harmonious cohabitation of languages that evolve together and tolerate each other.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 104","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It briefly reviews key literature on aspects related to business communication practices and trends, and analyses a corpus of customer reviews selected from leading online e-commerce sites to see how customers interact with service/product providers to express satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The analysis will try to identify how the language used reflects the relation between participants, their credibility or lack of credibility in front of each other, and whether such aspects may be said to influence online sales trends.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also involves a thorough understanding of different linguistic registers and varieties. This involves focusing on non-verbal signs and gestures, with the precise aim of informing or persuading the audience. Therefore, evaluating these complex oral presentation skills can be challenging, especially if clear evaluation criteria are not established and followed through during the entire educational process. Our study aims (1) to identify an extensive educational assessment tool for oral presentation skills, and (2) to test the validity of this tool among our students during formative evaluation sessions. Our study involves two groups of university undergraduate students learning English for Specific Purposes. They are from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania, and the Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. Looking at the assessment intention from a communicative approach, in this research we stress the importance of the congruence between three educational stages – teaching, learning, and evaluation.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These similarities constitute an element of intrigue, as Turkish and Mauritian Creole are not cognate languages. Yet, this study invites a reflection on the interconnection through mutual intelligibility, of these remote languages which are geographically located far apart from each other, one on the European and Asian border and the other in the Indian Ocean. The researcher adopts a synchronic approach to analyse aspects of both Turkish and Mauritian Creole with regard to their respective lexicons. An International Phonetic Alphabet presentation illustrates the common sound patterns justifying the orthography of each language in the context of this study.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to lead a reflection on the didactical approach of the oral to emphasize its shortcomings to endow the learners with discursive capacities nevertheless perceived as essential in any didactic project envisaging the acquisition of the competence of oral communication. We postulate that to explain the limits of the didactical approach of oral currently installed in the Moroccan primary school, it is interesting to stop on the acceptance that one gives to the notion of competence of communication. Our reflection, which was carried out through an examination of the different moments of implementation of this approach, shows a tendency to reduce the didactic intervention at the level of the sentence unit without taking into account the discourse as object of teaching-learning. Consequently, the discursive dimension does not constitute an issue of the so-called approach that seems to focus only on linguistic and socio-cultural capacities.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, satirical discourse most often presents uses of quotation sometimes considered \"deviant\" in the sense that it subverts the norms: the role attributed to direct discourse is different, the sources cited are chosen and named according to particular criteria, the methods of inserting the quoted discourse into the quoting discourse transgress usual practices. In the articles taken into consideration, the purpose of this diversion is the triggering of laughter through the degradation, the distortion of reality. Our analysis will examine the sources of laughter through the nuanced observation of the uses of citational practices identified in the corpus, in an equally comparative and complementary approach.","PeriodicalId":38597,"journal":{"name":"Dialogos","volume":"12 18","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139528930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
