In this work, the feasibility study of generating and supplying reliable power from freely flowing water to a remote area is presented. The power generation with variable water flow to the turbine is found to be feasible with satisfactory power qualities at different loading conditions of the generator. Investigations on power quality issues are carried out for both linear and non-linear types of loads. The proposed system is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Deploying energy storage helps in restoring the imbalance in the grid due to the integration of renewable energy sources and aids in proper utilization of these sources by minimizing the wastage of surplus energy generated at times. Energy storage systems have mostly flexible capacity and it is important to utilize an optimal capacity of the storage system for proper functioning, stability of the system and also for enhanced economic benefits by minimization of total cost of the system. In this paper, to obtain the optimal size of the energy storage system, its operation is worked out as an optimization problem with an objective function of minimization of cost of the system considering different operational constraints. The optimization model is formulated as a Nonlinear programming (NLP) model in a 24-hour time frame. It is tested with the hourly generation of a solar farm and the load demand along with other operational parameters of the storage system. It is important to select suitable energy storage system considering different technical aspects and cost of the system as per the service requirements. Two different energy storage systems have been considered in the study. The results obtained with the sizing model with the respective storage system are stated. Load uncertainty is a major uncertainty in power systems, to see the impact of the uncertain load in the sizing of the storage system, probabilistic load for 24 hours is generated using Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) considering Normal Probability density function and fed to the sizing model as inputs. The optimization problem is solved using GAMS optimization platform. The results obtained with both the normal load and the probabilistic load are compared and studied. Difference in results is observed for both the cases. The three-phase current signal is synchronized with the GPS clock and approximate wavelet coefficients are computed over a moving window of one cycle. Two centroids of successive cycles are computed using K-means clustering. The centroidal difference of local and remote bus are added to obtain resultant centroidal difference. The resultant centroidal difference is compared with the threshold to detect the fault. Similarly, the centroidal difference is computed of three-phases to classify the fault. A number of case studies have carried out to validate the proposed algorithm by fault impedance, fault incidence angle and, fault location. Several nefarious approaches to women that outraged the entire nation awakened the scientists globally to design smart apps for women safety. This paper proposes a concept of a multivariate security paradigm for women under possible offensive threats by deep sensing approaches. Internet of Things (IOT) based platform provides dexterity and dynamicity in correlating a plethora of sensors and actuators to ensure women safety. Hidden Markov Models (HMM) offer scope for better predictive analysis for its dynamic probabilistic nature and helped us developing a dense sensing approach based on traces of suspicious activities. There is a situation-based analysis for relative modelling based on face recognition as well as fuzzy labeling of verbal conversations. If an emergency situation is triggered, a GSM/GP module will generate emergency in case of after-shock otherwise will warn the female device bearer. The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation is employed to design the closed loop optimal control of infinite-time as well as finite-time Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) system with quadratic performance measure or index. The objective of the proposed controller is to stabilize the Maglev system and to control the ball position for tracking the desired ball position. The two different cases of weights of the LQR controller are selected on the trial and error basis for studying and improving the time response performance of the system. The performance comparison between infinite-time LQR and finite-time LQR is also investigated in both simulation and real time. To validate the effectiveness of proposed controller, it is compared with the classical PID controller between their relative time response and performance indices of the system. Loop performance is analyzed while the sensors are faulty. The objective of the paper is to understand effect of orifice faults like open circuit fault, short circuit fault, and assertive faults on the output of flow process. On analyzing the effect of faults, a fault isolation system is designed which is placed in cascade to the process so as to limit effect of sensor faults on the process. Fault tolerant system is designed using regression analysis like support vector machine. The designed regression/fault tolerant vector is connected in cascade to the controller to produce outputs which is independent of sensor faults. The fault tolerant system is also designed to identify the faults in sensors. Usually, high-performance motor drives are categorized by their fast and precise response, quick regaining from disturbances, and insensitivity to parameter variations. In the literature several possible solutions for the controlling of PMSM are proposed. Hence, a comprehensive comparison between these two control techniques will be helpful for the user to choose the better strategy depending on the application. In CTAC, the current which is responsible for torque producing (quadrature axis current) is taken as zero, so that torque angle becomes constant and its value becomes 90°, however in case of CMFLC of PMSM reference mutual flux is taken constant and its value is equal to the constant flux producing by the surface mount permanent magnet. A drive-response philosophy is used where one chaotic system is used as transmitter and other chaotic system with controller is used as a receiver. A nonlinear active control (NAC) scheme is designed to achieve synchronisation between nonidentical chaotic systems with application to secure communication. Controller is designed by using sum of the relevant variables of the drive and response systems. Required stability condition is derived based on Lyapunov stability theory. MATLAB simulation is used for the effective verification of the proposed scheme. From the view point of cost, consistency, compatibility and environmental issues the PMSM is operated without speed sensor. Therefore, we require some speed estimation approach to operate the motor in closed loop. In this paper, an Active-Power (p) based Model-Reference-Adaptive-System (MRAS) is used to estimate the speed. The p-MRAS based speed estimator depends on machine parameters (i.e., stator resistance and mutual flux linkage). Thus, any variation in these will affect the speed-estimation-technique performance. In general, variation of stator resistance is quite common when compared to mutual flux linkage. Hence, stator resistance estimation is required. A novel method for stator-resistance (Rs) estimation technique (i.e., modified active power MRAS (p = : MRAS)) is proposed which is independent of speed. Proposed p-MRAS based speed estimator performs satisfactorily at low/no- load conditions when compared to the reactive power (Q-MRAS) based speed estimator.
