We begin by looking at the reform of the Brazilian State and of the Judiciary. We then look at aspects of Brazilian culture and their relationship with organizational culture. Using content analysis, we follow this by reviewing the data obtained through interviews with 37 civil servants. The paper ends with reflections regarding compatibilities and incompatibilities between the reform model adopted by the Judiciary and its organizational culture.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/0034-7612152761","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67322152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ávila","doi":"10.1590/1807-01912016223550","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1590/1807-01912016223550","url":null,"abstract":"In the last two decades of the 20th century, democracy has established itself as a hegemonic regime in many parts of the world. Theoretically, these democracies function according to constitutional precepts originating in normative consensus resulting from negotiations between political forces that legitimate the choice of representatives. In other words, a minimal consensus on the rules of the game must exist and, subsequently, adherence to the outcomes by all the players involved. Consequently, one of the signals of how legitimate a democracy is lies in the behavior of its losers. Given this democratic principle, this article seeks to answer two questions, with Brazilian democracy as a case study. The first asks if the defeat at the ballot box in 2014 affected the degree of satisfaction with and support for democracy among the losers in Brazilian democracy. In other words, did losing the election induce the losers to go beyond criticisms of the elected government to attack the democratic regime itself and, therefore, the “rules of the game”? The second question, which is more explanatory, seeks to identify the conditions under which the gap between winners and losers, in terms of support for the democratic regime, widens or narrows. The main conclusion is that the losers in elections are more unsatisfied with the functioning of democracy than the winners, although there are no differences with regard to commitment to democracy. This result occurs even when controlling for different demographic, social, and individual characteristics, including the evaluation of Dilma Rousseff’s government and the rejection of the Workers’ Party (PT).","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"128 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/1807-01912016223550","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67163903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of them are young with little schooling and come from peasant families. Among other things, researchers call attention to the risks to which these workers are submitted, related to transportation conditions, housing and work environment. The organization of work is always focused on increasing the surplus value, which has resulted in the deterioration of the labor force, expressed by several diseases and countless deaths of migrant workers. In the scope of this article, it is our intention to define “risk” concept and relate it to the processes of subjectivities and to understand the meanings that migrant workers attribute to the risks to which they are exposed during the trip and also in workplaces (sugarcane plantations). Regarding methodology, we used a qualitative approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with a sample of 12 migrant workers from the city of Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde (Pernambuco), in the Pajeu microregion, and also of cities located in the microregion of Serra do Teixeira (Paraiba), especially the surrounding areas of Princesa Isabel (state of Paraiba). The data allow us to assert the existence of an intrinsic relationship between the risks they run and the affirmation of the gender identity of the subjects investigated.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"18 1","pages":"1122-1135"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67364630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the importance of the species Peltophorum dubium for revegetation of degraded areas, tree planting and landscaping, this study evaluated gas exchanges in canafistula seedlings under the influence of physical protectors subjected to different luminosity rates. The experiment was carried out in pots Latossolo Vermelho Distroferrico, a typical soil of the study region. Seedlings of Peltophorum dubium were evaluated at 30, 50, 70, 90, 110, and 130 days after sowing (DAS). Thus, the following treatments were adopted: T1, absence of physical protector (APP); T2, transparent physical protector (TPP); T3, transparent physical protector + blue cellophane (BPP) and T4, transparent physical protector + red cellophane (RPP). The evaluated characteristics were: stomatal conductance, transpiration, CO 2 assimilation, CO 2 concentration inside the substomatal chamber and water use efficiency. In general, all types of physical protectors led to higher mean values of gas exchanges during their permanence in the sowing site until 70 DAS, except for CO 2 assimilation. However, water use efficiency was higher in APP seedlings at the same period.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"26 1","pages":"797-809"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71222680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the use of a scale applied to 1035 university students from Brazil and Portugal, it was examined how the environmental behavior of these students is structured. Using multivariate statistical techniques, it was verified that there is a similarity in the environmental behavior of both groups, with environmental beliefs being manifested by an opposition to the anthropocentric view. The environmental attitudes have the concerns related to the environment as their predecessor. These concerns influence the option to control economic growth, which is reinforced by the ecocentric point of view of the respondents and is manifested by the perspective of a decrease in production and in consumption as well as the promotion of welfare. Although there is a tendency, the option for green consumption is not fully accomplished.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"46 1","pages":"113-134"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/1809-4422ASOC139099V1932016","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67249718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nas novas democracias, o sistema politico complexo – multipartidarismo, voto personalista, identificacao partidaria fraca e multiplos candidatos – pode prejudicar o voto correto. Argumento, principalmente, que as redes interpessoais e o contexto social funcionam como atalhos cognitivos, substituindo os mecanismos institucionais. As redes interpessoais e o contexto social sao desagregados pelos atributos de conflito e diversidade, os quais influenciam distintamente o ato de votar corretamente. A proposta deste trabalho e refletir e analisar como a performance sociolinguistica de um humorista local reproduz o estereotipo do “alemao colono”, tendo como corpus de analise um texto de uma propaganda televisiva que o personagem fez referente a uma campanha de prevencao contra a proliferacao do mosquito da dengue. Conhecido em varias regioes do Brasil, o humorista realiza a negociacao de uma identidade alema local, valendo-se de estrategias fonologicas, lexicais, tematicas e simbolicas, que podem estigmatizar o falar alemao e, por extensao, os seus falantes. Assim, em um primeiro momento, neste trabalho, sao trazidas algumas consideracoes sobre como as relacoes historicas entre os alemaes e o Brasil se intensificaram com a imigracao alema, iniciada efetivamente em 1824, e como se deu o processo de colonizacao germânica de Marechal Cândido Rondon, para, apos, analisar, a luz da sociolinguistica e de estudos sobre variacao linguistica, a atuacao do personagem e a relacao disso com a comunidade local alema. Como resultado, verifica-se a reproducao de violencia simbolica com os falantes desse grupo social minoritario, homogeneizando-os, e levando os seus ouvintes ao riso pela associacao da forma de falar a uma representacao estereotipada de alemao colono, grosso, sem instrucao, sem saberes valorizados. Como conclusao, destaca-se que o reconhecimento da diversidade dos aspectos sociais da cultura e lingua alemas se constitui como uma das metas para a valorizacao do bilinguismo local e a diminuicao do estigma na macrorregiao dos falantes de alemao/portugues.
