Dallal","doi":"10.12987/9780300159141","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12987/9780300159141","url":null,"abstract":"In this wide-ranging and masterful work, Ahmad Dallal examines the significance of scientific knowledge and situates the culture of science in relation to other cultural forces in Muslim societies. He traces the ways in which the realms of scientific knowledge and religious authority were delineated historically. For example, the emergence of new mathematical methods revealed that many mosques built in the early period of Islamic expansion were misaligned relative to the Ka'ba in Mecca; this misalignment was critical because Muslims must face Mecca during their five daily prayers. The realization of a discrepancy between tradition and science often led to demolition and rebuilding and, most important, to questioning whether scientific knowledge should take precedence over religious authority in a matter where their realms clearly overlap. Dallal frames his inquiry around three concerns: What cultural forces provided the conditions for debate over the primacy of religion or science? How did these debates emerge? And how were they sustained? His primary objectives are to study science in Muslim societies within its larger cultural context and to trace the epistemological distinctions between science and philosophy, on the one hand, and science and religion, on the other. He looks at religious and scientific texts and situates them in the contexts of religion, philosophy, and science. Our results suggest that there is (i) a positive impact of dismemberment on the concentration of seats in a few parties in the city councils in the municipalities of origin, and (ii) a reduction of participation in the municipality of origin of minority parties, concomitantly with an increase of concentration in the chamber of the new municipalities of these parties. Tais entes foram dotados de significativo grau de autonomia, com competências legislativas próprias e gestão relativamente independente de recursos. A Constituição, buscando aumentar a autonomia dos municípios restringida pelos projetos centralizadores anteriores, também alterou a repartição tributária que vigia até então, instituindo um ganho significativo para os municípios: a receita municipal em 1988 representava 10,8% dos recursos arrecadados pelo Estado brasileiro, ao passo que em 2000 passou a representar 16,9% (Andrade, 2007, p. 252). O presente artigo busca investigar efeitos dos desmembramentos municipais no Brasil sobre a concentração de poder do legislativo municipal. Além de serem por si sós relevantes para a escolha da regulação, os efeitos das divisões sobre a balança de poder podem ter sido antevistos pelos agentes e operados como incentivos para a criação de novos municípios no passado. A possibilidade de aumentar sua participação no legislativo nas eleições seguintes, por exemplo, pode ser um incentivo importante para que um partido apoie ou não a divisão. Para realizar a investigação pretendida, foram analisadas as divisões de municípios brasileiros realizadas no período de 1996 a 2004. The methodology consists of the bibliometric analysis of 155 academic publications related to the subject and provided by the Scopus database. Subsequently, the quantity, quality and structure indicators were calculated to be able to understand the evolution of this area of study. The results show that the United States, the United Kingdom and China are the countries where the theme is most studied and the topics that are trend lined are coverage, decision-making, derivatives and project management. It is concluded that the research on risk management is focusing on sub-themes such as reputational risk, fraud risk and exchange risk, showing that the literature on this subject has been specializing and focusing on the new market needs. © 2017, Universidad del Zulia. The determination of both essential (Cr, Cu, Mn) and non-essential (Pb, Rb and Sr) trace elements was made by inductively coupled plasma-quad- rupole mass spectrometry (ICP-QMS). The samples were collected from local markets and supermarkets from each of 16 delegations of Mexico City, Distrito Federal. The overall ranges of concentrations found were: 2.4-4.8, 5.1-95.3, 1-6, 0.1-1.6, 0.4-4.5 and 11-58 mg/kg for Cr, Cu, Mn, Pb, Rb and Sr, respectively. The maximum and mean concentration values obtained for Cu and Cr in mantle and tentacle samples from both kind of markets, are above of the NOM-051-SCFI/ SSA1-2010 (closest Mexican standard), according to USDA National NDB for Standard Reference consumer exposure (100g/day) of octo- pus. It was observed that the maximum Pb concentration value found in mantle and tentacle samples from supermarkets origin exceeds the NOM-129-SSA1-1995 and NOM-242-SSA1-2009 reference values, while the maximum mean value is below the regulation. Such kind of teaching became popular and expands education in remote locations, besides reaching people who cannot afford tuition fees neither have availability or financial resources to travel long distances between work and school. In the usual outcome, the individual would emphasize work in order to sustain his/her family. Distance learning enables development of students who invariably seek professional growth, adding value in his/her career. It also has the function of inclusion at all levels of learning. A survey was conducted for a sample of 123 students, who attended an introductory course of finance. The aim of this study is to test, through the behavior of social statistics and economic surveys, the acceptance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) students to the study of financial education, trying to identify disabilities and propose new approaches, which minimize this impact. Travertine, calcareous tufa and stromatolites figure among the rocks proposed as analogous for the microbialitic rocks. This work conduces the study of geological, petrophysical and geophysical parameters of a travertine block measuring 1,60 x 1,60 x 2,70 m, weighing 21,2 tons and available in the Centro de Estudo do Petroleo (CEPETRO) at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas. The Italian block, named T-block, corresponds to the representative elementary volume of its original formation and allows the study in an intermediate scale between the hand sample and the outcrop scale. Permeability tests and gamma ray spectrometry measurements were conducted and the porosity was calculated by image analysis. Models were generated from the obtained data and then associated with descriptive geology of the block. It is expected that the absence of a strong metal-support interaction can result in the formation of a very active and stable Ni-Mo-S phase. In this study, catalysts with different amounts of nickel and molybdenum supported on a commercial activated carbon were prepared by a co-impregnation method and characterized by BET, XRF, and SEM techniques. The catalytic activity for hydroprocessing of Jatropha oil was evaluated in a batch reactor, and the composition of the liquid and gaseous products were determined. Results showed that gaseous products are mainly composed of high amounts of propane and small amounts of other light hydrocarbons (C1 to C5). Liquid hydrocarbon products consisted of a mixture containing mainly n-paraffins of C15-C18 and some oxygenated compounds. Acompanha, etnograficamente, nas aulas de Educacao Fisica 25 criancas com seis anos de idade (8 meninas e 17 meninos) da turma do 1o ano de uma escola de Ensino Fundamental, de marco a dezembro de 2014 contabilizando 36 observacoes in loco . Utilizando como instrumento metodologico diario de campo, brincadeiras populares e registros imageticos (fotos e videos produzidos pelas criancas). Two different marking schemes (i.e. Optical Circles and Optical Bars) were tested separately for road transitions between rural and urban areas where the speed limit reduces from 70 kph to 50 kph. The tested treatments were intended to achieve combined perceptual effects (i.e. increase drivers’ attention, perceptual speed and perceptual road narrowing effect) independently. Data were analyzed for 44 participants (30 men and 14 female). The study results showed that the speed was reduced significantly for the both road marking treatments, however, the Optical Circle scenario in which circles with increasing size were implemented was the most effective solution. Moreover, variations in acceleration/deceleration and lateral position were not found to be significant due to treatments. This indicates that drivers did not decelerate or evade vehicles unsafely when confronting the road markings. Con base en una revision de la literatura, se desarrolla un sistema difuso conformado por la caracterizacion del proceso de compras, variables de entrada y salida, funciones de pertenencia, reglas difusas, metodos de agregacion y defusificacion, e incluye un modelo de ponderacion de factores para la generacion de reglas difusas. El FIS propuesto se modela en Matlab® y se valida en una compania de mineria de oro ubicada en el distrito minero de Ataco-Payande, Colombia. Con los resultados se encuentra que el FIS apoya el proceso de toma decisiones y aumenta las capacidades para la evaluacion y seleccion de proveedores al utilizar modelos cuantitativos, variables linguisticas y reglas difusas que involucran incertidumbre y ambiguedad.
