En primer lugar, queremos determinar las fuerzas mas relevantes que producian tensiones en la disciplina durante la epoca considerada. Para ello, vamos a proponer una hipotesis explicativa del vuelco en la esfera del pensamiento matematico que resulto cuando se prefirieron las funciones en lugar de las integrales elipticas. Esta hipotesis se arraiga en el estado del \"Analisis\" y el \"Algebra\" durante la epoca de la emergencia. Luego mostraremos que las construcciones de Abel y Jacobi de las funciones elipticas soportan nuestra hipotesis de trabajo. Por ultimo, delineamos algunas conclusiones referentes a nuestras reflexiones","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"18 1","pages":"77-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66158574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These structures are supported on batter piles, and they are commonly used in New Orleans and the surrounding area to protect low-lying regions against hurricaneinduced flooding. Since the soils in southern Louisiana often include very soft and compressible clays, T-walls need to be designed to resist the stresses and bending moments that can develop in the batter piles due to settlements. However, the current Twall design procedure for estimating settlement-induced bending moments is largely based on numerical models that have only been validated to a limited extent. Therefore, a series of centrifuge tests is currently being performed to investigate and physically model the effects of settlement-induced bending moments on pile-supported T-walls. This paper describes one of these centrifuge tests as well as the development and validation of a corresponding numerical model. The results from the numerical model are in good agreement with the centrifuge test results, which is an indication that numerical modeling can be used to realistically estimate the magnitude and distribution of settlement-induced bending moments.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":"192-201"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1061/9780784479087.020","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"58577181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these frameworks can be resource intensive and challenging to implement. This paper compares three frameworks, Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO), traditional Game Theory, and a Modified Game Theoretic approach on the form and flow of information passed between subsystems. This paper considers the impact of “complete” information sharing by determining the effect of merging subsystems. Comparisons are made of convergence time and robustness in a case study of the design of a satellite. Results comparing MDO in two- and three-player scenarios indicate that, when the information passed between subsystems is sufficiently linear, the two scenarios converge in statistically indifferent number of iterations, but additional “complete” information does reduce variability in the number of iterations. The Modified Game Theoretic approach converges to a smaller region of the Pareto set compared to MDO, but does so without a system facilitator. Finally, a traditional Game Theoretic approach converges to a limit cycle rather than a fixed point for the given initial design. There may also be a region of attraction for convergence for a traditional Game Theoretic approach.Copyright © 2010 by ASME","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":"497-506"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1115/DETC2010-29026","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63508374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For about 100 years, orchid growing was considered a hobby for the rich, but the introduction of Dendrobium Pompadour proved to be a landmark that also brought popularity of orchid cultivation in Thailand. In 1966, only a small amount of orchid cut flowers were exported from Thailand to some European countries, but with a decade, the country attained the status of the world’s leading producer and exporter of orchids where it continues to hold the primary orchid exporter in the world. In 2012, the total Thai growing areas of production was 7,420 acres with yields of 2,403 kilograms per acre and cut-flower exports of 2.1 billion 63.6 billion US$ to 148 countries and plant export to 160 countries (17.8 million US$) where. Also in 2012, it is estimated that 46% of the orchid production were consumed locally and 54% were exported. Newly developed technology to increase the production and reduce costs, such as greenhouses, planting materials and containers, pest control, production, plant breeding, tissue culture, postharvest and packaging technology, replaced traditional growing, which imitated natural growing. These improved practices have resulted in higher yields and quality of flowers and plants, as well as reductions in production costs. Orchids will continue to dominate other ornamental crops in Thailand due to better technology know-how, suitable climatic conditions, experienced and skillful growers and exporters, as well as their nationwide popularity and the country’s pride.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17660/ACTAHORTIC.2015.1078.2","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67849732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even in the absence of severe neurosensory impairment, very preterm children are at risk for a range of long-term cognitive, motor, and learning deficits. Infant developmental assessments are typically carried out at 2 years of age for both clinical and research purposes, and they are crucial for outcome monitoring. We review psychometric tests of infant developmental functioning most widely used as outcome measures for very preterm infants and other high-risk populations. We also consider parent-based assessments and methodological issues pertaining to the use of these tools in large-scale research studies and in outcome monitoring in this population.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1027/0044-3409.216.3.135","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"57262673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Atraves do SIG foram definidas areas prioritarias a recomposicao florestal por meio da Avaliacao Multicriterios, utilizando o metodo da Media Ponderada Ordenada, que permite que o tomador de decisao decida pela recuperacao de uma area, frente a uma limitacao de recursos, entre um dos cenarios propostos ou o faca por etapas. Conclui-se que ha presenca de processos erosivos acelerados nas cabeceiras de nascentes dos corpos d´agua; ha fragmentacao da vegetacao nativa, principalmente nas areas de encosta e pequena presenca de vegetacao nativa nas zonas riparias. A aplicacao da Analise Multicriterial pelo metodo da Media Ponderada Ordenada foi importante, pois discriminou e sistematizou os cenarios de prioridade para a recomposicao florestal. APPLICATION OF MULTICRITERIA ANALYSIS TO   DEFINE   PRIORITY AREAS FOR   FOREST RECOVERY 2 ABSTRACT Using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and   taking into account   its capability   to analyze spatial data, a database of updated spatial data from the sub-basin of the Descalvado stream, Botucatu, SP, was developed to provide   an evaluation and diagnosis of the area concerning land use and the degradation processes therein. Through GIS, priority areas for forest recovery were defined by Multicriteria Evaluation and using the Ordered Weighted Average method. The latter  allows the decision maker to define the area to be recovered, facing  limitation of resources, among one of the proposed scenarios, or do it in stages.  The study showed that there are accelerated erosion processes in the headwaters of the springs of water bodies; there is also fragmentation of native vegetation, especially in hillside areas, and little presence of native vegetation in riparian areas. The application of the multicriteria analysis using the Ordered Weighted Average was important as it systematized and discriminated  scenarios of priority for forest recovery.  Keywords: Ordered Weighted Average, multicriteria eval","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67215695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This chapter highlights the importance of integrating CSR into the mainstream of business schools’ curricula, arguing for the responsible role that business schools should play and emphasizing the strategic case for such integration. The chapter analyzes the main challenges and opportunities that both hinder and facilitate mainstreaming of CSR at the heart of the business school curriculum and the role that the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) can potentially play as a facilitating factor and driving force. The chapter illustrates these drivers and constraints in the context of one specific business school in Lebanon that has successfully experimented with CSR mainstreaming in recent years.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":"276-300"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70440297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This chapter presents a new framework for analyzing science standards and curricula to determine the extent of alignment with 21st Century essential understandings and skills. The Tool for Analyzing Science Standards and Curricula (TASSC) was developed using the conceptual frameworks proposed by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development, and the typology of knowledge proposed by Jurgen Habermas. Development of TASSC relied on an iterative process of refinement, testing, and discussions resulting in an instrument with three sections and related rating scales: content, skills, and additional curricular components. TASSC was piloted using middle school science standards and curricula in the context of two US states (Ohio and New York) and two Arab countries (Lebanon and Qatar). The analysis procedure and individual case study results are presented and discussed in the chapter.","PeriodicalId":38571,"journal":{"name":"Scopus: Journal of East African Ornithology","volume":"1 1","pages":"533-556"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70427532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
