The problem of Kirchhoff plate bending is described and solved by the Boundary Element Method (BEM). Rectangular plates supported on boundary or plates supported on boundary and resting on the internal columns are examined. A defect is introduced by the additional edges forming a crack in the plate domain. The analyses of static and dynamic structural responses are carried out with the use of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). Signal decomposition according to the Mallat pyramid algorithm is applied. To obtain a more adequate input function subjected to DWT the white noise disturbing the signal is considered together with the structural response. In the dynamic experiments the plate undergoes vibrations similar to natural modes. The measured variables are static deflections and vertical displacement amplitudes. All of them are established at internal collocation points distributed alongside the line parallel to selected plate edge.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"137-157"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41543200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The shapes of the cross-sections and the nonuniformly distributed load are described analytically. The individual seventh-order shear deformation theory-hypothesis of the planar beam cross-sections is assumed. Based on the principle of stationary potential energy two differential equations of equilibrium are obtained. The system of the equations is analytically solved, and the shear and deflection coefficients of the beam are derived. Moreover, the shear stress patterns for selected cross-sections are determined and compared with stresses determined by Zhuravsky’s formula. The results of example calculations are presented in tables and figures.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"119-135"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49407921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, the wishbone structure is made of high carbon steel and the aim is to investigate if the composite materials, such as E-Glass/Epoxy, Carbon/Epoxy and Boron/Epoxy, can achieve the lightweighting purpose without compromising material strength. The study is carried out through finite element package (Siemen NX) with the consideration of three different loading conditions, namely, lateral braking force, vertical and longitudinal braking force. Throughout the study, it is found that both Carbon/Epoxy and Boron/Epoxy composites is able to reduce the weight of the component by 46% while maintaining the required strength.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"103-114"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48618222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mathematical modeling of the flow problem is obtained by taking into consideration the weight of leading parameters. Similarity conversions are employed in converting the leading partial differential equations to non-linear high-order ordinary differential equations. These equations were numerically computed using a spectral quasilinearization method for different values of the main parameters. The interesting numerical outcomes are attained for the flow variables, as well as the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and Sherwood number. The results designate that the skin friction coefficient $C_f$ falls as the values of slip parameter $gamma$ rise, it improves as the values of $delta$ boost. Both the local Nusselt number, $theta'(0)$ , and Sherwood number, $phi'(0)$, drop as both Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters increase. A comparison of the spectral quasilinerization method (SQLM) with the bvp4c method is conducted and an excellent agreement in their output is observed.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"69-87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45569523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the industrial cascade control system, nested controllers have been a versatile tool for the control of large-scale equipment. Research shows that these types of controllers improve their performance with the integration of artificial intelligence algorithms and prevention methods against controller saturation. For this reason, this paper presents the development of a fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller in cascade with anti-windup (AW) for full-scale test equipment for pavements. In this study, the mathematical expressions for the equipment, the design of the controller and additional systems for comparison, simulation and analysis are developed. The main objective is to test the functionality of this type of nested controllers for these systems.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"3-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49120997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radiant cooling panel’s bottom surface temperature and temperature non-uniformity index are considered as the quality objective functions. Control parameters such as pipe length, the spacing between the pipes, radiant panel thickness, pipe bent radius, pipe diameter, insulation layer thickness, pipe material, panel material, insulation material, and mass flow rate of water entering the pipe are included as the control parameters of the optimization study. The performance of radiant cooling panels is analyzed through numerical simulation technique- computation fluid dynamic (CFD) method. The numerical simulation is carried out in the Fluent software, and the CFD code is checked for grid independence and validation. Through single and multi-objective optimization, the best design of the radiant cooling panel is identified, and a confirmation test is also conducted. For the analysis, the method, known as FEM23, is applied, which uses a two-dimensional (2D) mesh, yet enables obtaining full 3D results for the layered structure. In FEM23, the layered structure may be a combination of thin and thick layers made of materials with significantly different properties. This paper presents two examples comparing the results to other numerical or analytical solutions. The examples confirm the correctness and flexibility of FEM23 for laminated plates with functionally graded layers.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"68 1","pages":"21-45"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44716166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both the experimental test and finite element results showed the failure modes of tilting and bearing failure. The rotation failure mode of the screw connection was studied by an analytical method using a spring model with screw-plate stiffness which included the bending and shear stiffness of the screw and the bearing stiffness of the screw and plates. Variation in the screw thread diameter, plate thickness, and plate thickness ratio are assigned to the spring model for the parametric study. The screw rotation or tilting was primarily controlled by the plate thickness. Presented results show that to decrease the effect of tilting failure, the end of the screw should be embedded within the thickest side of the cold-formed steel parts.","PeriodicalId":38552,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Transactions","volume":"67 1","pages":"557-577"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47168328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
