The implementation of activities in which students’ voice is heard via different practices and actors on mega, macro, meso and micro levels brings unexpectedly impressive results in learning. The article investigates the role of students’ voice in two public educational institutions in Latvia (University of Latvia) and Italy (University of Padua). The comparison is made in two categories, actors and practices, to respond to the research question of whether the Italian and Latvian systems support students’ participation/engagement in higher education. It presents a comparative study between the University of Florence (Italy) and the University of Lagos (Nigeria). It starts from a meso-level analysis of service models and data based on institutional university reports. In fact, the literature at international level illustrates the relevance of career service organisations in supporting the educational process. The analysis of the models and structures of career service in both institutions has proven that they will help to implement measures to support employability. The common trend, from a future perspective, can be traced in close cooperation with stakeholders. The integration of employers’ points of view as well as the co-planning of training and matching activities represent some of the key elements for creating connections at the higher education level. After the introduction, the methodological path followed is presented based on the document analysis of Greek and Portuguese national reports and the theoretical framework about adult education policies is discussed. A critical analysis of adult learning and education in both countries is made, based on a comparative approach. The conclusions stress the Europeanisation of adult education policies in the frame of human resources management policies as well as concerns about participation in adult education following modernisation and state control aims and conceptual elements. Sprejeta je Strategija vseživljenjskosti učenja v Sloveniji. The rationale behind the paper is based on the presumption that the process of professionalisation represents a reflection of social conditions, tradition, culture, development of higher education institutions, the scientific/knowledge base for a certain field on the main elements of the profession. Our aim is to critically discuss professionalisation in the field of adult education and learning with a threefold focus (on the profession, representing the sociological dimension, on professionalism, representing the philosophical/ethical dimension, and on professionalisation, representing the andragogical dimension). The findings indicate that in the territory of former Yugoslavia significant but insufficient progress has been made when it comes to shaping the field of professional practice and in the professional preparation of andragogues/adult educators at universities, including improvement in continuing professional development. {"title":"Mednarodna primerjava dejavnikov vpliva na zgodnje opuščanje izobraževanja","authors":"Danijela Makovec","doi":"10.4312/as.24.4.109-125","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4312/as.24.4.109-125","url":null,"abstract":"V članku razpravljamo o dejavnikih, ki vplivajo na zgodnje opuščanje šolanja, in o ukrepih, ki so bili v Sloveniji sprejeti, da bi slednje preprečili. Zmanjšanje zgodnjega opuščanja šolanja na manj kot 10 % do leta 2020 je namreč eden ključnih ciljev strategije Evropa 2020, Slovenija pa omenjeni cilj že presega. Po zadnjih raziskavah ima namreč naša država eno izmed najnižjih stopenj zgodnjega opuščanja šolanja med državami Evropske unije (EU). V prispevku proučujemo razloge za omenjeno nizko stopnjo zgodnjega opuščanja šolanja ter podajamo pregled institucionalnih in političnih ukrepov, ki jih je Slovenija sprejela, da bi zmanjšala osip in mladostnike čim dlje zadržala v izobraževalnem sistemu. Rezultati študije kažejo, da je v državah EU delež moških, ki so opustili šolanje, večji od deleža žensk ter da obstaja pozitivna povezanost med dejavniki, kot sta izobrazba staršev in socialno-ekonomski status družine, ter zgodnjim opuščanjem šolanja.
