Furthermore, existing techniques for the automatic adjustment of this parameter are not totally satisfactory and are rarely used. In this paper we pursue the concept of Bayesian Adaptive Filtering (BAF) that we introduced earlier, based on modeling the optimal adptive filter coefficients as a stationary vector process, in particular a diagonal AR(1) model. Optimal adaptive filtering with such a state model becomes Kalman filtering. The AR(1) model parameters are determined with an adaptive version of the EM algorithm, which leads to linear prediction on reconstructed optimal filter correlations, and hence a meaningful approximation/estimation compromise. In this paper we will introduce the convergence behavior of the adaptive part.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129037127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of using a chirped FBG and detecting the bandwidth, we use uniform gratings as sensors andmeasure the optical power reflected by the sensing grating to determine the length of the sensor grating,hence detect the wear. We demonstrate by the experiments that the proposed method is feasible andpractical. The advantage of the proposed method lies in the fact that structure of the wear sensing system issimplified and therefore the cost can be significantly reduced. The principle of the proposed method, thedesign of the wear sensor, and the experiments are described. The comparison based on the Renyi criterion is achieved on synthetic as well real-life data. In particular, our application is made on the real consonant-vowel transition that represents a very good example for nonstationary case and speech application. We show that a recently proposed TFD give a high time–frequency resolution with suppressing the undesirable cross-terms in the multicomponent signal. 1. INTRODUCTION In this paper, we present a quantitative comparative study between some existing time-frequency distributions (TFDs) in the analysis of multi-component signals. In the comparison, we consider the cross-terms suppression and the high-energy concentration of the signal around its instantaneous frequency (IF).The widely used spectrogram (SP), which is in general a cross-terms free TFD, suffers from the undesirable tradeoff between time resolution and frequency resolution [1],","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132350047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SECAM encoder requires an anti-cloche filter recommended by International Telecommunication Union Recommendation (ITU-R) Broadcasting service Television (BT) 470. However, the design of the anti-cloche filter is difficult. It is because the frequency response of the anti-cloche is very sharp around rejection-frequency area. So, we convert the filter into a high pass filter (HPF) by shifting the rejection frequency of 4.286MHz to 0Hz frequency. The design of HPF becomes very easy, compared to that of the anti-cloche filter. The proposed decoder also uses an error-free square root, two differentiators, and trigonometric functions to extract color-component information of Db and Dr accurately from frequency modulation (FM) signals in SECAM systems. The proposed systems are experimentally demonstrated with ALTERA FPGA APEX20KE EP20K1000EBC652-3 device and TV sets.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132816663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The shifts of target locations depend on the estimation errors in the wall thickness and dielectric constant as well as the target locations with respect to the antenna array. In this paper, we propose a novel technique that enables proper imaging to be performed with unknown wall characteristics. In this technique, the imaging is performed for different sets of the assumed wall parameters at different standoff distances from the wall. For each set of wall parameters, the combined image for different standoff distances is obtained. A focusing metric is then applied to determine the wall characteristics corresponding to the maximum sharpness of the image. The proposed standoff-based imaging technique has several advantages in practical use, including safety, covertness, and rapid acquisition time.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132249325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, audio signals and, in particular, musical signals can be well approximated by a sum of damped sinusoidal (modal) components. Based on this representation, we propose a two steps approach consisting of a signal analysis (extraction of the modal components) followed by a signal synthesis (pairing of the components belonging to the same source) using vector clustering. For the signal analysis, two algorithms are considered and compared: namely the EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition) algorithm and a parametric estimation algorithm using ESPRIT technique. A major advantage of the proposed method resides in its ability to separate more sources than sensors. Simulation results are given to compare and assess the performances of the proposed algorithms.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134465189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive how the quality of the channel estimation and the resulting BER degradation can be controlled by the parameters training sequence length Lp and the number of measured frequency samples Dm. The performance improving procedure of interpolation or de-noising of the channel estimates is also feasible with real-valued samples. Furthermore, we compare schemes to calculate MIMO-OFDM filters in terms of absolute and relative computational complexity. For the MIMO detection we assume a linear zero-forcing filter which can be calculated very efficiently for all OFDM-sub-carriers separately or by exploiting matrix wise interpolation of the adjoints and determinants of the channel matrix and Cramer’s rule for the calculation of the inverses.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133367140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
