We selected only 26 air quality stations (AQS) out of 55 from National Air Quality Monitoring Network (NAQMN) which are managed with Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI). We compared the average annual concentrations of PM10 and NO2 pollutants of urban-traffic, urban-background, and rural-background stations. The specific aim of this study is to demonstrate the decreasing trend of PM10 and NO2 pollutants in Slovakia and we aim to statistically prove the concentrations are lower at rural stations than at urban-traffic stations due to anthropogenic activity – traffic and industry. In conclusion, we proved that the lowest values are measured at rural-background stations. We undoubtedly proved that the higher concentrations of PM10 and NO2 are measured in agglomerations at urban-traffic stations. We statistically proved that concentrations of NO2 pollutants are 83 % and PM10 pollutants are 34 % lower at rural-background stations than at urban-traffic stations. {"title":"Model na predpovedanie oblastí výskytu lesných požiarov = A model to predict the outbreak areas of forests arsons","authors":"Faicel Tout","doi":"10.24040/gr.2023.19.1.62-75","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24040/gr.2023.19.1.62-75","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, we try to provide a geographic prediction model for burned forest areas, the research was done using multiple criteria to find spatial compatibility in geographic information systems (ArcGIS), basically 6 criteria have been adopted, which are the vegetation cover, the distance from inhabited areas, control centers, water sources, slope, roads and forest paths, This model was applied to the mount of Sidi Reghis in the province of Oum El- Bouaghi , which has been affected by many fires before, research shows that many areas are still vulnerable and may provide the appropriate conditions to define the crime of arson, which will be difficult to control. Although the precise identification of these areas requires a high degree of precision in the data used, this research attempts to provide a model that can be used to help decision-making and increase the willingness of authorities to deal with these behaviors. And to take proactive decisions to prevent these fires, including opening mountain trails, increasing monitoring centers, providing water sources, or trying to develop mountain areas to create more favorable conditions for settlement of tourist activities, or even the concentration of the population. It offers opportunities for their cognitive development, stimuli for emotional development, shapes their views. A positive relationship with the local region should be developed in Geography education as one of the affective educational goals. The aim of this paper is to evaluate pupils' perception of the concept of a local region and to find out their relationship to their local region based on the results of a questionnaire survey of pupils of lower secondary education in the Czechia and Slovakia. The data were collected using an online questionnaire, which was completed by 4 673 pupils in the Czechia and 3 980 pupils in Slovakia. The results show that pupils perceive their local region most often as the whole district or the whole region in which they live. Pupils' attitude to the local region decreases with their age and was stronger among boys. Slovak pupils identify with their region more and there are significant differences in their relationship to the region across regions. In particular, pupils are most proud of the natural environment and cultural monuments. Places provide a sense of belonging and allow migrants to develop positive feelings about the locations where they live. In this article, we analyse the significance of cities in the process of migrants’ self-identification. Rather than focusing on neighbourhood or country, we point at the significance of the scale of the city. In the case of Turkish migrants, empirical results from two different cities, The Hague (The Netherlands) and Aachen (Germany), showed that a well-developed urban-related identity among migrants leads to strong positive attitudes towards the country. Despite the fact that predictors of urban-related identity differ in the two cities, we found that the effect of strong urban-related identity as a contributor to positive attitudes towards the country they live in is the same. The aim of the contribution is to evaluate regional differentiations in the values of climate regulation as one of the regulatory ecosystem services in relation to natural potential in 4 regions of the Slovak Republic (Krupina district, Michalovce district, Piešťany district and Brezno district) using a modified matrix approach. The results in these regions indicated that the spatial localization of individual ecosystems in the country, in combination with a higher altitude and a larger area of forests and protected areas, can represent significant factors influencing the territory's potential to provide benefits resulting from climate regulation ecosystem services. Mountain areas generally have a higher capacity to provide climate regulation, which is mainly due to rich forest vegetation, as is the case in the Brezno model region. Approaching them critically, evaluating them and properly disseminating them appears to be a key skill that teachers should teach students given the availability and easy access to such information. Despite this easy access to practically any information, it is becoming more and more difficult to reach from a number of available sources for one that, on the one hand, describes the topic of interest, but at the same time presents information comprehensively, clearly, expertly and at the same time in an engaging and, of course, understandable way for the target group, in our case the elementary school pupils.
