The three environmental variables are time allowed, project champion support, and change reversibility. The process variable is the level of familiarity with current system. The two dependent variables, predicted success and predicted support, are based on perceived judgements of the participants (who are practitioners attending evening MBA classes), given the hypothetical implementation scenarios for Budget-Aid where the four variables were examined. The research participants were classified according to type of management responsibility, age group, education level, familiarity with computers, familiarity with DSS, and prior change exposure. Most experimental and classification factors had statistically significant relationships with predicted success and predicted support.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. The view modeling and integration approach is based on the analysis of application requirements, i.e. it is 'needs-driven', while global data modeling is based on the synthesis of primary data elements (data that supports the basic business operations) into entities and relationships, i.e. it is primary data-driven. On one hand, if the environment changes, the views approach may not produce a stable data model. On the other hand, the global data model may not provide a complete support for strategic information systems. The dual approach to organizational data planning combines the two approaches by minimizing their disadvantages and emphasizing their positive features.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. PDM interactively aids users in defining a logic model of their planning problem and uses it to generate problem-specific inferences and as input to a model building component that mechanically constructs the algebraic schema of the appropriate LP model. Interesting features of PDM include the application of domain knowledge to guide user interaction, the use of syntactic knowledge of the problem representation language to effect model revision, and the use of a small set of primitive modeling rules in model construction.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. A knowledge representation (KR) scheme is used to represent the user's image of the problem, and the procedures available-both user-directed processes (UDP) and computer-directed processes (CDP)-and in designing the logic of the CDPM. The CDPM uses a plan generator to generate several different types of plans. The history inference processor makes inferences about the user, the problem characteristics, and the process of working on the problem. The evaluation of the plans is based on criteria which consider these inferences and on other factors.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. The authors argue for theory-based research as a means to progress in the area. They reconstruct the common assumptions implicit in previous studies and establish the links between the assumptions and existing theories relevant to the groups. The authors also present other, more specific, theoretical models. A framework is proposed that helps in the selection of different theoretical models for studies on computer support of groups.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. AIS: a foundation for practical artificially intelligent systems AIS:实用人工智能系统的基础

It is a Lisp-based knowledge representation language (KRL) to support large-scale distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) applications. AIS uses a two-level data model. One level acts as a permanent repository of information and the other contains a partial working set of it. The basic data model stores information as entities and relational tuples. Demons, which are procedures that respond to pattern-matched transactions, are used to maintain consistency of the database and to automate standard activities. On top of the entity-relationship data model an object-oriented scheme has been implemented. A forward- and backward-chained rule-based system also has been developed in terms of the object-oriented system. Each of these knowledge representation schemes have associated optimization strategies. Finally, an automatic classification algorithm is available so that domain models can be constructed from exemplars.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. Each subtree has to satisfy the capacity restriction of the backbone nodes. This approach combines the savings method with the matching problem, and is compared to L.R. Esau and K.C. Williams' (1966) heuristic modified to handle the multicenter case. This parallel savings heuristic allows one to decide how many backbone nodes to open and how to connect the user nodes to these backbone nodes. The performance of the parallel savings algorithms is demonstrated on a very large set of test problems.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":384442,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences.
