The proposed method uses Restricted Boltzmann Machine(RBM) as an Aggregation Method (AM) for binary feature descriptors. The assumption of this technique is that the RBM is performing an dimension expansion of the feature space. Also the type of the data undergoes the transformation from binary to floating point. The conventional approach in convolutional neural networks uses as an input the image that consists of one (grayscale) or three channels (RGB). The method presented herein allows to have the number of channels configurable, as it depends on the size of the Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM). The size of the entire network and its parallel implementation makes the architecture usable in real-time systems with reduced memory size.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123412952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tomorrow’s vehicles will be automated and autonomous, capable of sensing their environment and navigating through cities without human interference. Therefore, connected and autonomous vehicles come with the cost of a new set of threats pertaining to higher risks of cyberattacks. A cyber-attack in a Connected Vehicle (CV) can yield high recall costs, loss of property and even jeopardise human safety. Therefore, the need for cyber protection of CVs is becoming paramount. nIoVe introduces a holistic and multi-layered cybersecurity solution for the Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) by addressing secure-by-design aspects of CVs, along with cyber protection, threat response and attack recovery at vehicle, infrastructure and service/application layer of the whole IoV ecosystem at complex use cases.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122014871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is nowadays clear that the success of a smart city largely depends on the level of engagement of its citizens. In this paper we explore to what extent disruptive blockchain technologies can be used to incentivise the democratic participation of citizen. The investigated approach extends the standard IoT cycle 1) sense data, 2) cloudify and elaborate them, and 3) push information to the users. Here, the user takes an active role by means of data-informed votes on policies, therefore influencing behaviours. We illustrate such an approach by means of a proof-of-concept decentralised application (dApp) supporting the negotiation of polices for the management of urban water resources. The dApp consists of a smart contract that manages the execution of other smart contracts (the policies) according to the data-driven choices of the community. This use case demonstrates how suitably blockchain technologies can support fair and safe access to data and user engagement in smart cities.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127780114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, for safety-critical systems which have to maintain functionality even in the presence of faults or failures (fail-operational) further properties are necessary. This includes the maintenance of the major core functionality even if non-redundant system resources fail, the Organic Computing runtime environment is harmed or the remaining resources are insufficient to maintain all services. These failure scenarios require semantic knowledge of the system combined with fault-diagnosis and adaption techniques to properly degrade and reconfigure the system.This paper highlights the research gaps towards active diagnosis based on artificial DNA and proposes solutions including semantic description methods, optimization algorithms for diagnostic models and adaptation techniques. Semantic description methods for Organic Cmputing systems with artificial DNA are the foundation for higher semantic-based failure detection and adaptation techniques. Diagnosis techniques for Organic Computing systems with artificial DNA can exploit the semantic descriptions to automatically build diagnosis models. Furthermore, these models can be optimized by evolutionary algorithms to improve their failure detection rates. Adaptation techniques modify the artificial DNA based on the recognized failures and the semantic description to realize the reconfiguration and degradation concepts.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129973830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Smart City paradigm is driven by technological evolution in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, and more specifically the paradigms of Internet of Things, Industrial Internet of Things and their confluence with Cyber Physical Systems. Smart Cities present a number of application domains that are related to their critical infrastructures, including energy and transport. These domains present needs similar to the industrial manufacturing environment utilizing smart devices and employing control automation for their applications. They could thus be labeled as “industrial domains” in the wider sense. This paper presents three application domains associated with Smart Cities, namely Smart Lighting, Smart Buildings / Energy, and Smart Urban Mobility, identifies their requirements and challenges and reviews existing solutions.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133910253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this paper is to find the most significant assessment parameters and functions of logical link. First, motivation is given for new approaches to the dependability assessment of industrial networks. Next, the approach of the up-state function (USF) is introduced. For the construction of USF, significant parameters are needed, which are sought by different methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and regression analysis. Finding the optimal variables for every environment and condition helps to identify the factors affecting the quality of wireless communication. In this paper, we are employing time series analysis and recurrent neural network to predict the most reliable value for each parameter for the next state. The analysis is based on a numerical training data set made of five different correlated parameters, including transmission time, update time, consecutive message loss, sent messages and lost messages.","PeriodicalId":383922,"journal":{"name":"2019 First International Conference on Societal Automation (SA)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133724914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
