Abstract
We describe the importance of sensors and sensing concepts for digitalization of large automation systems. Process industries have been adopted as a starting point. Two recent developments in temperature sensing are given as examples for sensor innovations with a potentially strong impact. Non-invasive and model-based sensing have been identified as trends.
