In this study, we proposed new optimal FCRM models (OFCRM). In order to obtain the least mean square error (MSE), we proposed modification of wi(x), the backward elimination method and the adjustment of the fuzzifier (w). The wi(x) is found by using the matrix Wi in weighted least-square (WLS) method. The backward elimination method is used in the variable selection in the OFCRM models, whereas the fuzzifier, w is adjusted by putting in various values of w (between 1 and 3). The OFCRM models are tested to the simulated data and the OFCRM models can approximate the given nonlinear system with a higher accuracy. In this study, the fuel consumption of different cars in miles per gallon (MPG) with eight independent variables were predicted using the OFCRM models. It was found that all variables are significant and w= 1.502 is the best fuzzifier value to be used in OFCRM models. The comparison among multiple linear regression (MLR) model, FCRM models and OFCRM models were done to find the best model by using the mean square error (MSE). It was found that the OFCRM models with the lowest MSE (MSE=3.106) tends to be the best model if compared to the MLR model (MSE=8.24) and FCRM models (MSE=7.848). This new technique has been found to have great capabilities and more reliable in predicting the dependent variable.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122922440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PMU aims to achieve power savings without significantly affecting the performance of the hardware accelerator by timely switching the power state of the device depending on the traffic accessing it and its operating state. The main methods used for power management would be clock and power gating. However some degrees of Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling can be easily added. The PMU will also provide certain level of programmability and will be able to operate accordingly with the software or driver. The functionality of this unit is verified using ABV Verification Test modules.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132534341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Certificateless Public Key Cryptography (CL-PKC) retains the efficiency of ID-PKC while it solves the key escrow problem and does not need a certificate. The requirement of the infrastructure of the CL-PKC is to transmit the partial key to the user. Therefore, a partial key issuing mechanism is needed to deliver the partial key to the user through a secure channel. In this paper, a new algorithm for partial private key transmission is proposed which uses a simple blinding technique and user chosen secret value to eliminate secure channel problem. The proposed scheme is secure under the hardness assumption of Diffie-Hellman problem.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133730322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This green scheme offer a cheap, efficient, reliable and cost effective of alternative energy and hence, there is no need to worries about the fuel source, capital cost, pollution and life expectancy. Even though the power generated is less than 5kW, but the benefit gain from this energy is the ability to raise the standard living of residents in remote areas. This type of green technology is still classified as a new in Malaysia and due to that, it is recommended to see the status of implementation. The frequency converter is normally controlled by a set of PI controllers. In order to improve the response of DFIG when subjected to system disturbances, the best way is to tune the PI controllers of the frequency converter. Due to the high complexity of the system, the tuning of these PI controllers is very difficult. In this paper an approach is offered to improve the response of DFIG when subjected to system disturbances using Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm (PSO-GA). In this case, tuning all PI controllers' parameters is considered. The results show that the proposed algorithm is well suited in terms of accuracy and quick response.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"796 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124815409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the optimal broadside radiation patterns of three-ring Concentric Circular Antenna Arrays (CCAA) with and without central element feeding are reported. For each optimal synthesis, optimal current excitation weights and optimal radii of the rings are determined having the objective of maximum Sidelobe Level (SLL) reduction. A new class of Particle Swarm Optimization technique namely Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO) is described. The extensive computational results show that the particular CCAA containing 4, 6 and 8 number of elements in three successive rings along with central element feeding yields grand minimum SLL (−55.86 dB).","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122920239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of different magnetic circuit towards the torque characteristic of permanent magnet motor is presented. Three different magnetic circuits are modeled using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tool to simulate the torque and cogging characteristics of the motor for the same size values. Total harmonic distortion (THD) of the torque is used to evaluate the characteristics of the motor. Based on the result, it shows that double stator type BLDC produced higher torque compared to single stator type BLDC. However, the serial and parallel of magnetic circuit affect the cogging characteristics of the motor. Conclusively, the paper contributes in term of guidance and suggestion for magnetic circuit selection before designing a BLDC.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114929746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sign language is a language which, instead of acoustically conveyed sound patterns, uses visually transmitted sign patterns. Sign languages are commonly developed for hearing impaired communities, which can include interpreters, friends and families of hearing impaired people as well as people who are hard of hearing themselves. Developing a sign language recognition system will help the hearing impaired to communicate more fluently with the normal people. A simple sign language recognition system employing skin color segmentation and Neural Network has been developed. A simple segmentation process is carried out to separate the right and left hand regions from the image frame and in the preprocessing stage a simple vertical interleaving method has been proposed to reduce the size of the image. The 2D moment invariant features of the right and left hand interleaved image is obtained as features. Using the interleaved 2D-moment Invariant features, a simple neural network model has been developed. The system has been implemented and tested for its validity. Experimental results show that the system has a recognition rate of 92.58%.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130662600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
