To control the multilevel inverters, different modulation techniques have been used. Amongst them multi carrier Sine Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) techniques are widely used for different multilevel inverter topologies. These modulation techniques are derived from the conventional two level inverter SPWM technique. Different modulation techniques are compared on the basis of the output THD, utilization of DC link voltages and common mode voltage. The detailed analysis of modulation techniques are shown on the basis of the output THD offered by the five level Neutral Point Clamped or Diode Clamped (NPC) inverter.","PeriodicalId":383674,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121894084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The indices produced based on this value are utilized in a wide range of management decisions throughout the utility. The figure of cost of unserverd energy currently used by Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) is based on studies done over a decade ago. It is important to obtain an updated estimate for this. Analyzing data on electricity interruption for different industry categories based on their contribution to the GDP will provide the loss due to the electricity interruptions occurred by different customer types and categories. These data can then be used to calculate cost of energy unserved in the selected industry categories. Data is gathered through a survey based study conducted on a stratified sample to cover the full spectrum of industries. The work includes design of the questionnaire, selection of the sample, conduct of the survey, analysis and conclusion. At the end of the project satisfactory methodology will be developed for calculating cost of unserved energy.","PeriodicalId":383674,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133728139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduction of Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) and their use as a powerful measurement tool in power systems has made possible for fast accurate algorithms. The simulated PMU data is used to determine the voltage indices being considered in this work to predict the stability of the Microgrid. The on-line assessment is supposed to capture the continuous changes of operation states of power system i.e. to assess if the dynamic state of power system is acceptable or not. The islanding detection time is an important factor for the smooth transition to islanding mode. For this purpose voltage security indices can be used to promptly send signals to the Microgrid Control Centre for islanding. In this work initially a transient stability analysis is performed on a Microgrid test bed using DIgSILENT and the simulation results are analyzed. The indices taken for the study Voltage Collapse Proximity Index (VCPI), Voltage Security Index (VSI) and Power Transfer Stability Index (PTSI) are compared. The credibility of these indices is validated on a typical utility system from Calicut, Kerala. From the simulation performance of the indices are analysed for three particular cases.","PeriodicalId":383674,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121829330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cruise control system, which is a highly nonlinear, has been linearized around the equilibrium point. The controller has been designed for the linearized model, by taking the dominant pole concept in the closed loop characteristic equation. The PID controller parameters, i.e. proportional, integral and derivative parameters have been tuned using Genetic Algorithm (GA). In this study, the performance of the controller has been compared with that of the conventional PID, state space and Fuzzy logic based controller. The simulation output reveals the superiority of the proposed controller in terms of maximum overshoot, peak time, rise time, settling time and steady state error. The sensitivity and complementary sensitivity analysis show the robust behaviour of the system with output disturbance and high-frequency noise rejection qualities. As a scope of further research, fractional order and 2-dof PID controller will be designed for this cruise control system and the performance will be compared with this design.","PeriodicalId":383674,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT)","volume":"127 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114049815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It says that database transactions should be: Atomic, Consistent, Isolated, and Durable. These qualities seem indispensable, and yet they are incompatible with availability and performance in very large systems. For example, suppose you run an online book store and you proudly display how many of each book you have in your inventory. Every time someone is in the process of buying a book, you lock part of the database until they finish so that all visitors around the world will see accurate inventory numbers. That works well if you run The Shop around the Corner but not if you run Amazon.com. Amazon might instead use cached data. Users would not see not the inventory count at this second, but what it was say an hour ago when the last snapshot was taken. Also, Amazon might violate the “I” in ACID by tolerating a small probability that simultaneous transactions could interfere with each other. For example, two customers might both believe that they just purchased the last copy of a certain book. The company might risk having to apologize to one of the two customers (and maybe compensate them with a gift card) rather than slowing down their site and irritating myriad other customers. There is a computer science theorem that quantifies the inevitable trade-offs. Eric Brewer's CAP theorem says that if you want consistency, availability, and partition tolerance, you have to settle for two out of three. (For a distributed system, partition tolerance means the system will continue to work unless there is a total network failure. A few nodes can fail and the system keeps going.) An alternative to ACID is BASE: Basic Availability, Soft-state, Eventual consistency.","PeriodicalId":383674,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114577482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
