Assessment of cost of unserved energy for Sri Lankan industries
The cost of unserved energy is an important parameter in the long term generation planning. The indices produced based on this value are utilized in a wide range of management decisions throughout the utility. The figure of cost of unserverd energy currently used by Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) is based on studies done over a decade ago. It is important to obtain an updated estimate for this. Analyzing data on electricity interruption for different industry categories based on their contribution to the GDP will provide the loss due to the electricity interruptions occurred by different customer types and categories. These data can then be used to calculate cost of energy unserved in the selected industry categories. Data is gathered through a survey based study conducted on a stratified sample to cover the full spectrum of industries. The work includes design of the questionnaire, selection of the sample, conduct of the survey, analysis and conclusion. At the end of the project satisfactory methodology will be developed for calculating cost of unserved energy.
