Two iterative beamforming algorithms are developed by maximizing the utility function of each user via parallel and serial methods. In parallel method, the transmitter and receiver beamforming vectors of each user are iteratively updated by maximizing its utility function. However in serial method, at first step, the transmitter beamforming vectors of all users are iteratively updated by maximizing the utility function of each user and then receiver beamforming vectors of users are calculated. By computer simulations, the performances of the proposed beamforming algorithms are evaluated and also compared with the performance of the duality method (DM) based beamforming algorithm. With respect to bit error rate (BER) and convergence rate, the results show that the new proposed beamforming algorithms have superior performances in comparison with the DM based beamforming algorithm. Also, for some cases, the serial method achieves better performances in comparison with the parallel method.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129033345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this model inputs from entorhinal cortex and dentate gyrus enter CA3 and together with the recurrent neural structure of CA3 form place fields. The model is implemented by considering neuron-glia interactions and Spike timing-dependent plasticity in CA3 neuronal network in order to introduce a biologically plausible model. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed model is able to predict biological observations recorded in the literature to a large extend. Finally, after modifying the proposed model to adapt it to a behaviour corresponding to decrease in glutamate uptake by postsynaptic neurons, which is one of the neural dysfunctions occurring in Alzheimer's disease (AD), the model shows the same changes in the place field formation as is observed in AD. This observation persuades us to work more on this model to prepare a substrate for studying AD disease and its impact on place field formation more deeply.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124580113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Until now, many methods have been proposed to this end, but studies show that machine learning based algorithms have a good performance in comparison to other methods. Selecting the best feature subset causes better accuracy and efficiency in machine learning algorithms. In this paper, in order to obtain higher classification accuracy, effective features are selected using a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. In this evolutionary algorithm, some objectives such as minimizing feature number, maximizing classification accuracy, maximizing true positive rate (maximizing TPR), and minimizing false positive rate (minimizing FPR) are satisfied simultaneously and with no conflicts with each other. In the proposed method, selected features subset is given to a new ensemble algorithm with online refinement during training and testing phases. Final result of each new ensemble algorithm is obtained by the vote of the majority with respect to the accuracy of any voter. Results show the high efficiency and performance of proposed method in comparison with other methods. So that the WWW traffic classification accuracy ascend to 99.93%. The results for 8 other traffics such as P2P indicate high accuracy of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129454020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The occurrence of power outages in distribution networks is higher than that of other parts of the grid. This phenomenon may impose substantial damage on customers with sensitive loads. The new concepts of distributed generation (DG) and microgrid (MG) in modern distribution systems can reduce the number of outages and associated damages by supplying a feeder from multiple sources. However, microgrids and distribution networks with DG require significant effort for the coordination of DGs and their protection devices. Therefore, the placement of protective equipment in order to limit the scope of the fault is one of the important issues which power engineers face. Adding DGs to a distribution system creates different sets of operating conditions such as reverse power flow and increased fault levels. In this paper, using the graph theory, various branches of a feeder are identified and the constraints for using genetic algorithm to optimize the location of protective equipment are derived. In the proposed algorithm, the location, type and direction of relays are optimized simultaneously. The results of implementing the proposed approach on a 33-bus test network confirm the performance and accuracy of this method.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129106689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a brief description about singular system is given and then, the singular model of the quadruped robot is derived. Because of the complexity of the singular model of the robot, we linearized it around the contact point of the leg and the ground, and based on this model it is shown that impulses are generated in the force which exists between leg and ground in the contact points.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123366141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper a general approach is proposed to place the PMUs optimally in a power system and minimize the total installation cost to make the entire system completely observable. In this paper, the placement of PMUs is performed with respect to the maximum measurement redundancy, considering both cases of single PMU loss or single branch outages as just one problem. The proposed approach employs Binary Integer Linear Programming (BILP) to formulate the objective function. In order to consider more practical assumptions, with and without considering of zero injections buses, this method does not utilize the existing conventional measurement units in the power network. In addition, to show the effect of unequal PMU installation in each bus, modified cost matrix is added to the problem. The proposed approach is then applied to several standard IEEE test systems (14-bus, 30-bus and 57-bus) to find the optimal placement of the PMUs. The simulation results approve the capability of the proposed method in finding the optimal place of the PMUs with minimizing the installation cost.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121284918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The database consists of six unimodal biometric traits, namely two dimensional (2D) face images, fingerprints, offline handwritten texts, videos of moving faces, spectral and thermal face images. A total of 104 subjects corresponding to 52 pairs comprises the database from which 20 pairs are identical and the rest are fraternal twins. Besides biometric traits, personality traits and psychological characteristics of twins were also collected using two popular psychology questionnaires, Craig's Locus of Control (LOC) and the Big Five. Additionally, we conduct an experiment to measure human capability in distinguishing between identical twins. The result shows that untrained humans could classify identical twins with 82% accuracy using facial information and 76% accuracy using writing styles.","PeriodicalId":383315,"journal":{"name":"2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116330347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
