LTM populations were found in the Tapos National Park Management Resort forest area, MGPNP. The existence of food trees greatly influences the existence and activity of LTM, so knowledge about the diversity of LTM food trees in the Tapos National Park Management Resort area is very important to do. This research aims to determine the level of species dominance in the plant community and diversity of LTM food trees in the Pasir Koja and Pasir Beunyeng Forest Blocks, Tapos Management Resort Area.  Data collection on LTM food trees was carried out using the grid line method of vegetation analysis. Data processing was carried out by calculating the importance value index (IVI) of food tree vegetation and calculating the diversity index (H') of food tree species. The results showed that the highest IVI value in the Pasir Koja forest block was Bamboo (Bambusa sp.) with a value of 106.76%, while Ki acret (Spathodea campanulata) had the lowest IVI value of 10.65%. Meanwhile, the highest IVI value in the Pasir Beunyeng forest block was Kaliandra (Calliandra surinamensis) with an IVI of 166.60%, while reed bamboo (Gigantochloa atter) had the lowest IVI value of 17.62%. The food tree species diversity index in the Pasir Koja and Pasir Beunyeng forest blocks is categorized as low.","PeriodicalId":382423,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Biologi Tropis","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130156831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chitosan is a chitin derivative whose function is similar to wax compounds so that it is able to inhibit metabolic activity. Storage temperature of 10°C can extend shelf life and maintain the physical quality of tomatoes. This study aims to determine the effect of chitosan administration, the effect of storage temperature, and the effect of the combination of chitosan and storage temperature on the physical quality of tomatoes. This study used a Factorial Complete Randomized Design, the first factor was tomatoes without chitosan coating (K0), and tomatoes with chitosan coating (K1) = shrimp shell, (K2) = crab shell, (K3) = fish scales using the same concentration of 6%. The second factor is storage temperature (T1) = room temperature (26-32°C) and (T2) = temperature 10°C.  The changes observed are shrinkage in weight, color, texture, aroma, taste based on organoleptic test (hedonic test). Data analysis using ANOVA at 5% level and BNJ follow-up test at 5% level. The results showed that the use of crab chitosan (K2) had an effect on weight loss (0.42%). Storage temperature of 10°C (T2) affects weight loss (5.04%). The best treatment combination for weight loss (0.07%) and color (7.40) was crab chitosan and temperature of 10°C (K2T2), while the best treatment combination for texture (7.56), aroma (7.08), and taste (7.16) was fish scales and temperature of 10°C (K3T2). In general, the best treatment is chitosan fish scales and a temperature of 10°C (K3T2).","PeriodicalId":382423,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Biologi Tropis","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129120633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research has shown that obesity causes oxidative stress, which contributes to degenerative diseases such as type II diabetes mellitus, premature aging, cardiovascular disease, tumors and cancer. Malondialdehyde (MDA) is one of the biomarkers used to assess oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to determine differences in MDA levels in medical students at the University of Mataram based on weight criteria: normal, overweight, and obese. The study included 41 students from the 2021 class of the Medical Education program at the University of Mataram who were divided into two groups based on their body mass index (BMI). BMI was determined by isolating body weight (kg) by the square of level (m2), and serum MDA levels were resolved utilizing the ELISA technique. The information were investigated utilizing the Mann-Whitney relative test. The results showed that the MDA level in group 2 (obese and overweight) was 1715.27 ng/ml, higher than group 1 (normoweight) with levels of 902.67 ng/ml. However, this difference was not statistically significant, because the p-value was 0.093 (p > 0.05).","PeriodicalId":382423,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Biologi Tropis","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125347143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To boost its production, proper fertilization methods are essential. However, excessive use of inorganic fertilizers can negatively impact soil fertility. Adopting environmentally friendly agriculture, this study explores the effect of etawa goat manure on the growth of Amorphophallus muelleri Blume tuber shoots. Conducted from September 2022 to February 2023, the research used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments: P0 (control), P1 (100 g), P2 (200 g), P3 (300 g), and P4 (400 g), each replicated four times. Data analysis involved the SPSS 24.0 program, employing one way ANOVA test and 5% BNT test. Results indicated that etawa goat manure did not significantly affect sprouting age and shoot height, but significantly influenced shoot diameter of tubers. The most optimal dose was 400 g (P4), producing the highest average shoot height (5.61 cm) and shoot diameter (9.70 mm). The fastest sprouting age (7 days after planting) occurred with 200 g of manure (P2), while the slowest growth (31.50 days after planting) was observed in the 100 g dose treatment (P1). In conclusion, environmentally friendly practices, especially applying 400 g of etawa goat manure, enhance the growth of Amorphophallus muelleri Blume tuber shoots. These findings offer valuable insights into sustainable agricultural approaches to cultivate this valuable plant.","PeriodicalId":382423,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Biologi Tropis","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131281451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to observe the expression of the acdS gene in the rhizobacterial isolates from pineapple plants affected by the environmental stressors. The expression of the acdS gene was observed by growing the bacterial isolate on a Dworkin-Foster medium containing 3 mM.L-1 ACC and observing the RNA abundance of the isolate based on the Cq value in the RT-qPCR reaction. The selected bacterial isolates were then identified molecularly using the 16S rDNA gene. This study showed that 2 out of 7 bacterial isolates growing on a DF+ACC medium were selected for the RT-qPCR process. The two isolates came from flooding and herbicide stressors with Cq values of 17.86 and 20.87, respectively. The two isolates were 1F and 2H which were identified molecularly as Burkholderia sp. and Pseudomonas psychotolerans in which both genera of bacteria commonly have the acdS gene. The two isolates can be used as inoculant candidates in the production of biological organic fertilizers as well as in their empowerment through land use management practices to help plants tolerate environmental stressors and promote plant growth.","PeriodicalId":382423,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Biologi Tropis","volume":"304 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123120295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
