Arapostathis","doi":"10.1109/PES.2007.386030","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PES.2007.386030","url":null,"abstract":"Since a damaged or abnormal-state machine often generates highly nonlinear signals, it is desirable to use a tool that can effectively detect and analyze nonlinear signatures. The bicoherence has been proposed for such nonlinear analysis since it is a measure of the phase coupling between interacting frequency components. However, the bicoherence has some difficulties in machine condition monitoring due to the challenge of distinguishing between the intrinsic nonlinear signature of a healthy machine and the nonlinear signature of a faulted machine. To address this issue, we propose a novel method exploiting the bispectral change detection (BCD) to detect and analyze the machine faults. The principal advantages of the proposed BCD method are that it can suppress the intrinsic nonlinear signature of healthy machines and emphasize the fault-induced nonlinearities. Therefore, the proposed BCD method can discriminate between fault-induced nonlinearities and intrinsic nonlinearities, and thus can be a strong and sensitive diagnostic for machine faults. The work presented in this paper describes a genetic algorithm (GA) based approach for tackling the SCOPF problem emerging in the UK electricity balancing market. The SCOPF problem is defined as optimizing the generation combination of balancing mechanism (BM) units to maintain the balance of generation and demand in the system subject to the physical limits of the BM units and the removal of stability constraints imposed by credible contingencies. Generation output levels of BM units, as the control variables for the solution to the problem, were put in the GA chromosomes. A properly constructed GA, employing feasible plane mapping of the genome, is used to determine the optimal generation combination. The proposed approach was tested on a reduced UK transmission system model with multiple contingencies taken into account at the same time. The simulation results demonstrate that the GA is capable of finding the optimal or sub-optimal solution based on which the power system being operated is absolutely stable against the specified contingencies. One of the most important problems is to identify the feasibility of a hydro unit commitment and to construct a feasible solution efficiently. This paper focuses addressing the issues of the hydro generation scheduling problem with a single hydroelectric plant and several units and multiple operating zones. Based on analysis of the structure of water conservation equations, a necessary and sufficient condition on the problem feasibility is presented and is applied in constructing feasible solution as efficient tool. Its application for generating efficient cutting planes in mixed integer programming problem is discussed. The adjusted model for the mean reversion process with long-term periodic mean is employed to describe the special characteristics of electricity price such as fluctuation, uncertainty and periodicity. In particular, the system operation constraints are taken into consideration in the model for the optimization of generators' outputs. Based on the established price model and optimization model, the generation asset to be invested is evaluated by adopting the approach of spread real option. Tools such as Value at Risk(VaR) and Conditional Value at Risk(CVaR) are applied for risk assessment. The characterization is supported on the data base knowledge discovery process (KDD). Data Mining techniques are used with the purpose of obtaining typical load profiles of MV customers and specific knowledge of their customers' consumption habits. In order to form the different customers' classes and to find a set of representative consumption patterns, a hierarchical clustering algorithm and a clustering ensemble combination approach (WEACS) are used. Taking into account the typical consumption profile of the class to which the customers belong, new tariff options were defined and new energy coefficients prices were proposed. The fault current of the faulty feeder is quite low when a single-phase earth fault occurs on a neutral non-effectively grounded grid. As for the safety of the system, such faults should be quickly distinguished and the faulty feeder should be correctly selected as well. This paper analyses the characteristic of the zero-sequence transient currents of a neutral non-effectively grounded system when a single phase-to-ground fault occurs. The generalized morphological transform is designed to form the new method for fault feeder selecting, which combines the excellent singularity detecting together with the noise-repressing abilities of mathematical morphology filter. The results of simulation using ATP and Matlab demonstrate that this method is immune to the variation of network structures and parameters. The utility of concern in this paper which owns and operates a portion of this system has traditionally relied on implicit deterministic criteria for evaluating system reliability performance and the need for system enhancements. Recently however, increasing emphasize has being placed on quantitative probabilistic assessments that attempt to quantify the risk of system disturbances, as well as the cost and the benefit of system enhancement projects. Probabilistic models for static adequacy and security of electricity supply system planning are presented in this paper.
