Compromised machines can then be linked up to form “Bot-nets” under external control, which are used to send spam e-mails or disable websites with a flood of bogus requests. This Paper looks at identity concealment techniques and Bot-net characteristics followed by an introduction to the concept of network forensics. The paper then proposes the use of computational intelligence techniques to detect Bot-nets. We then simulate anomaly detection in the next section followed by an interpretation of the simulated results in the following section. Followed by a section describing future work, the paper then concludes by discussing how the system would be tested on an organizational network.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117138064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing intrusion detection systems have assumed the one-size-fits-all solution model. Such IDS is not as economically sustainable for all organizations. Furthermore, studies have found that Recurrent Neural Network out-performs Feed-forward Neural Network, and Elman Network. This paper, therefore, proposes a scalable application-based model for detecting attacks in a communication network using recurrent neural network architecture. Its suitability for online real-time applications and its ability to self-adjust to changes in its input environment cannot be over-emphasized.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117237616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technological advancements lead to smart objects being capable of identifying, locating, sensing and connecting and thus leading to new forms of communication between people and things and things themselves. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) encompasses technical systems to support elderly people in their daily routine to allow an independent and safe lifestyle as long as possible. Keep In Touch (KIT) uses smart objects and technologies (Near Field Communication and Radio Frequency Identification) to facilitate telemonitoring processes. Closed Loop Healthcare Services take use of KIT technology and are capable of processing relevant data and establishing communication channels between elderly people and their environment and different groups of care-givers (physicians, relatives, mobile care providers). The combination of KIT technology (smart objects) and Closed Loop Healthcare Services results in an applied IoT infrastructure for AAL scenarios. Already applied IoT and AAL applications in telemonitoring and medication intake compliance projects show that these applications are useful and accepted by the elderly and that the developed infrastructure enables a new form of communication between people and people, people-to-people (P2P) communication. The personal communication between elderly people, their environment and relevant groups of care givers is an important aspect in AAL. Through the combination of KIT and Closed Loop Healthcare, a central AAL paradigm can be realized through the IoT, where the elderly live in their homes with smart objects, thus smart homes, communicating to the outside world in an intelligent and goal-orientated manner.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128377724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even if a subset of such e-lessons has only one module (m1) in common with other subsets, the “common module” may not contain the same array of concepts. As a result, any investigation of such e-lessons based solely on their module names is inherently flawed. Normalization of e-lessons can remove such a flaw. A set of N Homogeneous and Semi-homogenous e-lessons are considered normalized if same-name modules cover the same concepts. In this paper a framework for normalization of e-lessons is presented as the first phase of creating a mechanism for accurate e-lesson modules’ cross-referencing, indexing, retrieving, and data mining.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128434826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IEEE 802.11-2007 and IEEE 802.15.4-2006 are compared with respect to their security provisions in the patient monitoring environment. This study demonstrates that IEEE 802.11-2007 has a slight edge over IEEE 802.15.4-2006 due to the specification of port-based user authentication with IEEE 802.1X/EAP. A security filtering database external to the wireless protocols may provide sufficient support to secure protected health information by automatically filtering protected data from disallowed entities.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130670324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper considers the advantages of converting web pages into multi-layered intelligent immersive omni–functional documents. Such standards-compliant documents can create powerful models for the next generation of internet usability. This paper documents the advantages of adopting multi–layered architectures for documents as against page–based architectures, and the interesting presentation possibilities associated with it. By providing multi-layered calculation elements, this medium provides powerful paradigms in the ability to calculate, to think and to present. Manipulation of content in such spaces is specifically considered. Algebraic expression of document structure is also attempted, to explain the salient features of omni-functionality, and how it interacts with the semantic web.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128833709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prevailing labor projections regarding the shortage of information technology (IT) professionals provide impetus for increasing computing-related majors. Unfortunately, many highly talented female and minority students never investigate IT or computer science as an academic option. Current NSF-funded investigation of attitudes toward IT held by US young adults identifies a number of stereotypes regarding IT that are causing difficulty in recruiting interest in IT course work, particularly among under-represented groups such as women. These include the notion that IT professionals are geeky White or Asian males who work long, hard hours in isolation, doing boring things with little chance for creativity or fun. To be successful in marketing IT course work, it is likely that such stereotypes need to be somehow overcome, and that these stand in the way of college IT recruiting programs that depend on antecedent interest in IT. However, our own previous research into undergraduate freshman attitudes toward STEM has suggested that negative perceptions can be countered and positive attitudes toward STEM can be maintained by interventions in the curriculum that humanize STEM professional life and show the social importance of STEM development. Applying this research to the problem of IT recruitment, the suggestion is that it is possible to generate interest in IT even after a student has begun college with no particular antecedent interest in IT.","PeriodicalId":379699,"journal":{"name":"2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125351291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
