In line with the rapid development of mobile devices, reading comic in small screen mobile devices is also demanded and required. The challenge in providing e-comics for small screen is how to separate comic scene frames and display it in the right order to read. We propose Automatic E-Comic Frame Extraction (ACFE) for extraction of scene frames from a digital comic page automatically. ACFE is based on the blob extraction method using connected component labeling algorithm, together with a filter combination pre-processing and efficient method for detection of line between frames. This paper proposes an automated negotiation protocol for multi-agent system (MAS) based virtual enterprises. Firstly, to facilitate the functional integration of VEs, a MAS framework is developed to represent the whole life cycle of VEs. Secondly, a negotiation protocol supporting agent argumentation and ontology interoperability between agents is designed to handle the one-to-many negotiation scenarios in the VE context. The negotiation ontology is defined to combine the negotiation domain knowledge. Meanwhile, the ontology interoperability and agent argumentation mechanism is illustrated to ensure agents’ mutual understandings. Finally, the proposed MAS framework is implemented upon the JADE platform. Eventually, this has led to an increased interest in standards for writing parallel applications. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) has become the de facto standard for writing parallel applications. Our growing needs for the latest high performance computing solutions in Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil producing company, has given us the opportunity to evaluate three of the most commonly used MPI implementations, MVAPICH, Open MPI, and Intel MPI on Intel’s latest Nehalem processor. In this paper, we describe our test bed environment along with the evaluations that we did using the High Performance Linpack (HPL) benchmark, which is the standard benchmark for ranking the world’s Top 500 supercomputers. We also discuss our own developed Web tool that is used to suggest tuned input values for the HPL benchmark. We show the performance numbers in GFLOPS along with the run times and system efficiencies when running on 32, 64 and 128 Infiniband Nehalem Linux cluster nodes using the three implementations of MPI. Our approach utilizes Semantic Web technologies to provide a formal and explicit semantic-based representation of software systems. The model was developed using a technique known as BioFusion®, which embodies a software engineering and knowledge acquisition methodology. The technique provides a formal means for developing a model by gathering, organizing, analyzing, documenting, synthesizing, and implementing the vast amount of knowledge needed about a biological process into a working computer simulation. Tags are a new form of metadata increasingly used in social bookmarking sites by users to annotate bookmarked resources. Our goal is to harness the implicit knowledge contained in these tags to improve the quality of recommendations to users. We use both tag and resource-interest knowledge in our user-based collaborative filtering algorithms to profile users and compute similarity between them. Sparsity is a challenge which occurs in a Social Recommendation System when the number of tags and resources to profile a user are inadequate to provide good quality recommendations. To address this problem, we designed a Tripartite Nearest Neighbor Algorithm (TRNNA) which combines three views of the data: the tags (TNNA), the resources (RNNA) and the collection of tags for a resource (Resource Vector of Tags or RVTA). TRNNA computes distance between users based on Cosine Similarity, which in turn is used to provide a high quality recommendation of resources.
