These applications, however, generally assume a static base station as well as static sensor nodes. For mobile sink applications, there are many challenges that need to be taken into consideration, such as the difficulty in detecting link failure, unstable network connectivity, and unreachable destinations, even though the new ZigBee standard (2007 version) supports device portability. In this paper, we analyze the problems of a mobile sink application, and propose a new application framework that supports seamless data communication when using a mobile sink in ZigBee networks. We evaluate the performance of the suggested application framework in terms of data reception rate and network connectivity of the mobile sink in experiments evaluating various rejoin conditions of the mobile sink.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134362174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this report we introduce a video conferencing software, which seamlessly integrates mobile with stationary users into fully distributed multi-party conversations. Innovations related to this work are twofold. At first we report on a highly optimized realisation of a 11.264 codec and our implementation experiences of the video conference software on a consumer mobile. Within the tight bounds of real-time requirements on mobiles, the coding software out performs compatible 11.264 realizations. At second we present an integrated peer-to-peer group communication solution, which scales well for medium-size conferences and accounts for the heterogeneous nature of mobile and stationary participants.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"60 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131851917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Resolution improvement in very small sensors is obtained by decreasing the pixel size but, in CMOS sensors, the likelihood of defective pixels also augments. Hence, sophisticated processing is necessary for achieving high quality images despite of noise and defects. This paper presents a hardware/software solution for high precision correction of defective pixels in an image sensor. The method maintains an always up-to-date map of the defective pixels and also allows detection of new defects as they show up during the lifetime of the sensor. The reliability of the map is assured by tracking the history of pixels defectiveness. The map is updated automatically and in real time without user intervention.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124340306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The techniques investigated can be applied to standard receiver equipment without modification. An extensive and carefully planned field trial was performed during the winter of 2007/2008 in Uxbridge (UK) to validate predictions from theoretical modeling and laboratory simulations. The transmissions were performed in the 730 MHz frequency band with a DVB-T transmitter and a mean power of 18.4 dBW. Transmit delay diversity has been observed to deliver significant reception improvement in automotive and indoor- non line of sight situations.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127174774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system aims to provide help for people with some kind of memory loss disease, namely Alzheimerpsilas. It is capable of providing the geographic position of the person carrying the mobile equipment, both by a patient request (pressing a key to send a message) or anytime trough a webpage consult by an external authorized person. The portable device consists of a GSM/GPRS module, a GPS module, a I/O and MCU module and a web server. It also incorporates hands free voice communication capability, which allows communication with a distant person, in the event of an unexpected incident. The problem of external web server dependency is tackled by implementing an embedded web server in the mobile device. This significantly reduces the user expenses that are limited to the data communication between any authorized person and the mobile system. Additionally, we have included a tri-axial accelerometer sensor to constrain the current consumption while the device is not moving, which can also detect the falling of the patient. However, the main achievement of this work, regardless the hardware integration, is the development of a web server supported on the relatively limited computational resources available in the module. To this extent, it is not required any dedicated software to access this equipment, but a web browser.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124872530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed peer authentication method, at which one-time session-keys, public key certificate (PKC) and ticket authentication mechanism are applied, enables each peer to perform strong mutual authentication in P2P network. The peer mutual authentication is performed by getting authentication ticket, submitting it to other peer and verification it by the peer. Also, the lifetime of each ticket can be controlled by the peer providing services according to each service.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124276029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
