As the technology is at early deployment stage, various techniques to improve performance are being developed and evaluated. Concerning this novel technology, not only the quality of reception but also the quality of services and their content has to be considered. Full DVB-H transmit diversity test bed in the Tampere University of Technology is employed for creating mobile services and evaluating transmit diversity techniques. In this paper, we describe the measurement campaign planned to analyze the impacts of transmit diversity on mobile reception. Therefore it may cause delay to the data communications. In this paper, we propose an efficient implementation method of the GSG for high speed data communications. Through simple matrix multiplications, we could not only derive a well-organized recursive formula but also implement the GSG with parallel outputs. Experimental results show that though the total area and clock period of the proposed scheme are 3~13% and 21~23% larger than those of the existing scheme respectively, our GSG improves 2, 4 and 6 times the throughput compared with the existing GSG when the modulation orders are QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM respectively.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125474799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principle of our proposal is to use a strain sensor to detect the strain of a chassis of a portable information terminal caused by fingertip pressure. An experimental model consisting of a detection circuit using a strain sensor and an embedded MPU was built to verify the operation. The experimental results indicate that the device supplies an extremely linear and highly accurate output that is proportional to the force of the fingertip pressure. This proposed device doesnpsilat need a specific area and thickness for input buttons in the chassis. Additionally, all components including the sensor and detection circuit are available as standard market items. Therefore manufacturing the device is inexpensive, and the circuit consumes little electric power.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126724877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The best effort model of the Internet cannot provide these applications with the so much needed quality of service guarantees, making necessary the development of file transfer scheduling techniques, which optimize the usage of network resources. In this paper we consider the high multiplicity scheduling of file transfers over multiple classes of paths with the objective of minimizing the makespan, when the files have divisible sizes. We also consider another objective, that of maximizing the total profit, in the context of some special types of mutual exclusion constraints (tree and clique constraint graphs).","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123367097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the complexity and computational load have been significantly increased. In this paper, a novel fast intra-mode decision algorithm is proposed to reduce the complexity of the video compression, which is based on the MBpsilas stationary property and the relationship of the selected modes among adjacent pictures. Periodic broadcasting (PB) is the most effective approach to building large-scale video-streaming services. But, one weakness of PB is the assumption of a homogeneous environment where all clients have the same resources such as reception bandwidth and storage. This assumption about clients is not reasonable in practical situations. In this paper, we propose a PB technique that allows low-bandwidth clients to be serviced equally with high-bandwidth clients in terms of service latencies by using peer-to-peer streaming between clients. In the proposed system, the server builds multicast trees of clients so that low-bandwidth clients are serviced from other clients with sufficient upload bandwidth instead of from the server. Our proposed system can provide all clients with equal QoS such as video quality and service latency, regardless of their resource capability. Using extensive simulation, we have demonstrated our system has better performance than existing PB protocols.","PeriodicalId":378486,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132619774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
