The idea is to inform a team leader of such situation, hence to help him in preventing serious disagreement between team members. This approach uses the vector space model with TF*IDF weight to represent email; and a domain ontology of relational conflicts to determine its categories. Our study also addresses the issue of building ontology, which is made up of two phases. First we conceptualize the domain by hand, then we enrich it by using the triggers model that enables to find out terms in corpora which correspond to different conflicts.","PeriodicalId":378427,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131117124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This so-called User-Activity Data (UAD) would make it possible to empirically ground cognitive models and to validate hypotheses of human processing concepts in the data. In order to thoroughly ground a cognitive model of the user in empirical observation, two conditions must be met as a minimum. All UAD data must be fully synchronised so that data relate to a common construct. Secondly, data must be represented in a queryable form so that large volumes of data can be analysed electronically. Two programs have evolved in the Eye-to-IT project: TRANSLOG is designed to register and replay keyboard logging data, while GWM is a tool to record and replay eye-movement data. This paper reports on an attempt to synchronise and integrate the representations of both software components so that sequences of keyboard and eye-movement data can be retrieved and their interaction studied. The outcome of this effort would be the possibility to correlate eyeand keyboard activities of translators (the user model) with properties of the source and target texts and thus to uncover dependencies in the UAD.","PeriodicalId":378427,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132185139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If reaching this goal in one's mother tongue is already quite a feat, to do so in a foreign language can be overwhelming. One way to overcome the expression problem when going abroad is to use a dictionary or a phrasebook. While neither of them ensures flu- ency, both of them are useful translation tools. Yet, neither can teach you to speak. We will show here how this can be done in the case of a phrasebook. Be- ing interested in the learning of foreign languages, we have started to build a multilingual phrasebook (English, French, Japanese, Chinese) whose sentence elements, typically words or expressions, are clickable items. This fairly simple feature allows extending considerably the potential of the resource. Rather than learning merely a list of concrete instances (sentences), the user may learn in addition the underlying principles (patterns), that is, the generative mechanism capable to produce quickly analogous, but more or less different sentences. A similar feature may be used to extend the resource, by mining a corpus for sen- tences built according to the same principle, i.e. based on the same pattern, but this is work for the future. Two of the main goals of this paper are to present a method helping learners to acquire the skill of speaking (patterns augmented with rules), and to allow experts (teachers) to add information either to extend the database or to add a new language. We've started from English and Japa- nese, adding very quickly French and Chinese.","PeriodicalId":378427,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128490153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To the best of our knowledge, previous approaches focused on corpus annotation mostly concentrated on subjectivity versus objectivity classification and did not annotate emotions on a fine-grained scale. The scheme we propose in this arti-cle allows for both coarse and fine-grained annotation boundaries, as well as to distinguish among polarities and a large set of emotion classes. We used the an-notated elements to train our real-time opinion mining system, which we subse-quently employ for the classification of new sentences on a closely related topic - “recycling”. We obtain promising results in all the test scenarios, proving, on the one hand, that the corpus is a valid and useful resource, and, on the other hand, that our method used for opinion mining, is adequate.","PeriodicalId":378427,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science","volume":"12 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126008381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To help the learner to acquire these skills we propose an enhanced, electronic version of an age old method: pattern drills (henceforth PDs). While being highly regarded in the fifties, PDs have become unpopular since then, partially because of their lack of grounding (natural context) and rigidity. Despite these shortcomings we do believe in the virtues of this approach, at least with regard to the acquisition of basic linguistic reflexes or skills (automatisms), necessary to survive in the new language. Of course, the method needs improvement, and we will show here how this can be achieved. Unlike tapes or books, computers are open media, allowing for dynamic changes, taking users’ performances and preferences into account. Building an electronic version of PDs amounts to building an open resource, accomodatable to the users’ ever changing needs.","PeriodicalId":378427,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125649681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus specialized collections of common sense propositions are created. This paper presents one of the ways of making such collection w.r.t. Czech language. We have created a cooperative game, where computer program plays together with human. The purpose of the game is to describe a word with short sentences to the co-player. While the human player is expected to use his/her common sense, the computer program uses word sketches.
