During this process the complexity of the overall power system has been continuously increasing. Installing new components and concepts into the interrelated infrastructure is getting more complicated as their impacts are hard to predict. Moreover, the energy system is a critical infrastructure that cannot be jeopardized by components with unclear behavior. Thus, new approaches have to be tested and validated in complex, large-scale co-simulations. In this paper an integration of two different laboratory infrastructures is introduced that enables such co-simulation analysis. On the one hand, the SmartEST laboratory in Austria is focusing on distributed energy resources, power electronic components as well as their integration issues. The SESA laboratory in Germany, on the other hand, addresses mainly hard- and software simulation integration.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117022861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially very fast processes with high requirements on minimal latency or maximal refresh rate are increasingly starting to stretch such systems to their limits. Image sensors with integrated feature extraction - so-called “Vision Chips” - already allow reducing the amount of data on chip compared to conventional imagers, thereby narrowing down the output to relevant data. Freely programmable systems are not restricted to the execution of a specific hard-wired algorithm. However, not least because of the necessary, but rather complex external circuitry, none of the proposed systems have so far been able to gain acceptance. This paper introduces an architecture of an Application-Specific Instruction Set Processor (ASIP) based control system, which can be directly incorporated into a System-on-Chip (SoC). The sensor's functional units are integrated into the micro-controller as additional data path elements, making them directly accessible as part of the instruction set. Furthermore, a parameterizable input/output (IO) controller and an Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) based configuration interface enable the system to be used widely self-sufficient with specific algorithms. The proposed control system has been integrated into a prototypical Vision Chip and has been successfully tested.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132470232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vibration signal analysis is a well-known and widely used diagnostic approach for bearing fault identification, and usually leads to good results in terms of effectiveness and detection capability. However, small defects, at an early stage of development, can be hard to find and require advanced signal processing techniques to facilitate the extraction of the fault characteristic frequencies from the noisy vibration signals. This work compares three different techniques applied to vibration signals to facilitate the extraction of the fault frequency components, namely the Teager-Kaiser operator, discrete wavelet transform and the Hilbert transform. A test bench was built and several types of defects were introduced in the motor bearings to compare vibration signals obtained with a healthy and a faulty motor. Comparative graphs of the results obtained with the three techniques are presented and the results are discussed.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131667927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a general model for the positive sequences is presented based on time-domain PMU measurement at off-nominal frequencies. Then, the detection problem at the control center is formulated as a composite multihypothesis testing framework, in which the goal is to identify the unbalanced buses in the power network. A method for unbalanced bus identification is developed based on the minimum description length (MDL) model selection criterion. In addition to determining the unbalanced buses, the algorithm also provides an estimation of the off-nominal frequency and the system states. In contrast to the existing imbalance detection techniques, the proposed method is based solely on the single-phase positive sequence data, without the negative or zero sequences. Thus, it can be carried out at the control center without additional communication and processing costs. In addition, the novel networked MDL-based approach takes advantage of all the information from different buses in the network. The use of the networked information is expected to yield a lower probability of error compared to existing local bus-level detection approaches. Numerical performance analysis shows the applicability of the proposed networked MDL method for imbalance detection in a two-port π-model.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"767 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132969564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It employs 2-dimensional “landmark code” the author proposes. The landmark code is a self-localization tool using ISO/IEC 18004 known as QR code which has complete information for localization such as position, pose and size in the world coordinate system. While the original idea of the landmark code was proposed by the author in his previous works, updated version is newly introduced in this paper. In addition, the author develops a prototype system of personal localization by using an ordinary PC and a web camera. The author also makes some experiments to test its validity and basic performances.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129206873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Capacitive and inductive sensors were developed to measure the thickness of the air-gap between the stator and the rotor poles. In order to obtain an absolute measurement of distance, an optical fiber chromatic confocal sensor system is used as a reference for the other sensors by means of a local calibration procedure. Due to variations in solar irradiance, inverters have a current margin, which is not explored during the day. Thereby, many works have proposed multifunctional operation. This concept consists in aggregate to the inverter control strategy other functions, such as harmonics and reactive power compensation. However, most important fact and less related in literature is the necessity of techniques to compensate partially reactive power and harmonics of the load, ensuring the inverter work below the rated current. Hence, the present work proposes a current dynamic saturation scheme in order to compensate partially reactive power and harmonics of the load during the multifunctional operation. Simulations show that the dynamic saturation prevents the inverter of inject low-order harmonics while ensuring the operation below the system rated current. By applying the multifunctional operation, the grid current THD is reduced from 104.64% to 1.54% and reactive power is fully compensated, resulting in a considerable grid improvement.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121022547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sliding mode control topology is used in the mechanical speed loop control as well as in the stator current loop control. The results show a good chattering reduction, a good machine performance and a good robustness of the controller due to disturbances, without the need of fine tunneling of the controller parameters, as in other kinds of control. The parameters of a real machine where used in the simulations. This kind of function in the used sliding mode controllers turned to be a very good alternative depending on the application.","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127783567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topology takes advantage of the MMC characteristics by offering multilevel output voltage with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), increased reliability, and design flexibility due to the modular nature of the converter [1] and [2]. This topology is composed of a “full-bridge converter” (FBC) connected to multiple “High Frequency Link” (HFL) modules via high frequency transformers. Each module produces its own isolated DC voltage that keeps the capacitor charged to a specific level, removing the need of a voltage-balancing algorithm. Furthermore the module voltage can be controlled by changing the FBC duty cycle in order to obtain lower output voltages without decreasing the number of levels. This topology fits well in large scale Photovoltaic (PV) power plants due to its capability to produce a high voltage output. This topology's feasibility is validated by simulation results (Matlab/Simulink).","PeriodicalId":377110,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127085651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
