A 3-phase interior PMSM is numerically simulated with ANSYS Maxwell 2018.1. Differently positioned permanent magnets improve the performance of PMSMs. Apart from handling nonlinear equations, FEM is used for simulation. ANSYS is used to analyze PMSM performance under variable conditions. This proposal examines a three-phase, 0.55 kW PMSM at 220 V, 50 Hz. Here rotor topologies of five types, namely, (i) spoke/tangential, (ii) saturable bridge / u-shape, (iii) V-shape, (iv) radial, and (v) segmented bridge permanent magnet rotor are taken for observation. The motive of this study is to analyze the performance of PMSMs in different rotor designs with different magnet positions. All topologies have been modeled and simulated with ANSYS. Each topology is compared in terms of electromagnetic and mechanical parameters. The 2D model is used to model the distribution of magnetic fields and the performance of operating parameters under transient and steady-state conditions. Magnetic flux, and efficiency are heavily influenced by the rotor shape with the volume of magnet. A study of radial force distribution and mechanical stress across rotor surface is also discussed. Motor performance is affected by the design of PMs.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141640486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The structure consists of a pixel antenna, self-adapting for the direction of the incident infrared radiation, and a concentrator lens, both optimized for the mid-infrared spectrum. The silicon substrate lens is situated above the pixel antenna, enabling the concentration of the incident light on the antenna; silicon was chosen due to its transparency in the IR spectrum. We examine how various parameters of the lens, in conjunction with the different states of the pixel antenna, affects the performance of the system. The simulations show that the gain of the arrangement increases considerably in correlation with the radius of the lens. The results suggest that the energy conversion efficiency of infrared rectenna systems can be enhanced by several orders of magnitude with the utilization of the proposed arrangement.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141690183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the problem of exploration and exploitation emerges when one tries to balance a system between the learning phase and proper execution. In this paper, a new method is proposed that utilizes autoencoders to manage the exploration rate in an epsilon-greedy exploration algorithm. The error between the real state and the reconstructed state by the autoencoder becomes the base of the exploration-exploitation rate. The proposed method is then examined in two experiments: one benchmark is the cartpole experiment while the other is a gridworld example created for this paper to examine long-term exploration. Both experiments show results such that the proposed method performs better in these scenarios.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141689204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially the antenna is designed and simulated using HFSS and a parametric study has been carried out for achieving an optimized antenna configuration. This is followed by the fabrication of antenna prototype based on the optimal performances obtained from the simulated results. Further, the return loss along with free space co-polar and cross-polar radiation pattern measurements has been carried out for the fabricated antenna. The experimental results show a good comparison with that of the simulated one. The proposed antenna resonates at an operating frequency of 866 MHz, providing a -10 dB bandwidth from 856 MHz-877 MHz, which covers the wireless standard used for LoRa technology. Finally, a comparative analysis of the proposed antenna with the recently reported works is presented.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141102505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, an open-switch fault in this power converter could result an important system malfunction and consequently leads to system disconnection. In this context, this paper focuses on the fault-tolerant control of PWM-inverter with redundancy leg for grid-connected PV system. In addition, a fast method of fault detection and compensation is used to maintain the continuous operation of the converter when there is a half-leg open-circuit fault (IGBT+ anti-parallel diode) on one of PWM-inverter legs. Therefore, it can detect this type of fault and compensate it in less than 50 μs by using a time criterion instead of voltage criterion. Also, the fuzzy logic technique is employed to control the active and reactive power injected into the network without exceeding the whole system power capacity limits. Note that, in this study, the active and reactive power references of the chosen operating point (the reactive-to-active power ratio: tgφ = Q/P = 0.19) are based on experimental tests. Simulation results show the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed fault diagnosis method in terms of fault detection and service continuity in presence of a half-leg open-circuit fault in PWM-inverter without any over-rating of the PV system components or instability.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140997133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a methodology to enhance battery capacity estimation accuracy by addressing uncertainties related to state of charge (SOC) estimation and measurement. The methodology employs the Neural Network Algorithm (NNA), an optimization algorithm inspired by artificial neural networks (ANNs). The NNA generates an initial population of pattern solutions and iteratively updates them using a weight matrix, bias operator, and transfer function operator. By combining the advantages of ANNs and optimization techniques, the NNA aims to find an optimal solution considering interdependent variables and incorporating global and local feedbacks. Leveraging the capabilities of the NNA, our objective is to identify the candidate that minimizes a specified cost function, ensuring up-to-date cell capacity through a memory forgetting factor. The algorithm's precision was validated using NASA's Prognostic Data, demonstrating outstanding performance by surpassing two aggressive algorithms in terms of accuracy. In the most severe case scenario, the algorithm achieved a peak error of less than 0.4%. Furthermore, the algorithm consistently demonstrated predictive performance measures that were superior to those of the compared algorithms.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140994241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC (MtVDC) connected to wind farms has received several attentions in the power sector because of its numerous benefits. The effectiveness of MtVDC, on the other hand, is dependent on the control scheme used. To achieve this goal, a hierarchical sliding mode control method by fractional-order calculus is used. To ensure the sliding condition, the control signal is determined. The controller parameters are adjusted according to a suitable adaptation method to enhance the proposed controller’s robustness compared to the system uncertainties coefficient. An appropriate Lyapunov-based approach is used to achieve the adaptation rule. This paper discusses a scheme to design additional controllers in MtVDC systems to damp electromechanical oscillations, one of several features of HVDC presently under active study. Numerical simulations validate the proposed control strategy's feasibility and efficiency. This novel approach is employed for the upgrading of system stability with the dynamic properties of the MtVDC in a variety of operative conditions.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140747401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially, the geometrical design of the generator is meticulously carried out, adhering to predefined technical specifications and constraints. Subsequently, an in-depth internal modeling, focusing on the electromagnetic behavior of the designed generator, is executed using finite element analysis (FEA) through the Ansys Maxwell RMXpert software. Finally, the external modeling and control system integration of the designed generator, connected to the grid through power electronic converters, are simulated using the Matlab/Simulink software suite. The resulting findings underscore the efficacy and viability of the proposed generator for wind turbine applications, affirming its potential to enhance wind energy conversion systems.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140749300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed antennas are designed and modelled by CST Studio Suite software. A parametric study is performed to determine sinc function parameters that control the performance of the proposed antenna. The parametric study is implemented by varying the amplitude of the sinc function, the frequency, the location of the slot along Y-axis, the slot width and the slot window (number of cycles). The simulated results showed that the designed slotted antennas in this paper exhibits multiband operation and they offer the feasibility of controlling and adjusting the resonant frequency by changing the sinc function parameters. The proposed antennas have various resonant frequencies at around 1.5 GHz, 2.65 GHz, 5 GHz and 5.8 GHz covering the 5G sub-6 GHz band. Extensive simulation process were carried out to determine the optimum antenna performance and three antennas were selected based on the reflection characteristics and number of operation frequency bands. Finally, the three selected antennas were manufactured and their performance were measured in the lab for validation. Experimental results showed that an excellent agreement between the measured and simulated results was achieved.","PeriodicalId":37664,"journal":{"name":"Periodica polytechnica Electrical engineering and computer science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140079200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
