This concern is especially acute for on-chip buses. In this paper we describe a methodology to generate a custom bus architecture using accurate estimations of interconnect delay. To improve bus delay accuracy, the bus Verilog register-transfer level (RTL) specification was altered based on interconnect delay estimations. Interconnect delay information is provided from an estimated chip layout. The delay estimates for the on-chip buses are used early in the design phase with a corresponding impact on system correctness and performance. As an example of interconnect delay aware bus generation, we compare three different General Global Bus Architecture (GGBA) configurations, showing that certain system blocks (the memory controllers) need to be modified based on interconnect delay estimation. The three different GGBA configurations are evaluated through the simulation of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless transmitter application. The impact of accurate interconnect delay estimation is shown through a 35.3% reduction in execution time between a worst-case bus delay configuration (GGBA III) and an accurate interconnect delay aware GGBA configuration (GGBA II).","PeriodicalId":375715,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2004 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Advanced System Integrated Circuits","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125867365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No LC-tank and ring oscillator are used in the proposed design such that the power dissipation and chip area are drastically reduced. Moreover this multiplier doesn't require external component and it is primarily intended for ASIC design. The HSPICE simulation results are based upon TSMC 0.18 /spl mu/m 1P6M N-well CMOS process at 1.8 V power supply. The simulation results show that the DLL can operate from 350 to 550MHz and the frequency multiplier synthesize frequency from 350MHz to 2.2GHz. The proposed frequency multiplier possess the programmable function, and the output clock frequency is 1/spl times/, 2/spl times/ and 4/spl times/ of an input reference clock. Each different clock frequency, the power dissipation all less than 7mW and the cycle-to-cycle jitter is less than 33ps.","PeriodicalId":375715,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2004 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Advanced System Integrated Circuits","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123712362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stage control of the proposed FIFO can be reconfigured dynamically to be one of two different operating styles, waving or handshaking, according to the status of data flow in the FIFO. The use of wave pipelining in a control and a datapath can eliminate delays of handshaking circuits and latching data respectively. The proposed circuits have been designed with 0.25 /spl mu/m, 2.5 V CMOS process technology and simulated using HSPICE. Preliminary results show about two times improvement on latency performance over a state-of-art linear FIFO circuit while retaining throughput and a simple linear structure.","PeriodicalId":375715,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2004 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Advanced System Integrated Circuits","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115325507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quarter-length stub attached to the power supply line of an LSI chip works as a band-eliminate filter, and suppresses the power supply noise of the designed frequency. Preliminary experiments show that 90% of the designed frequency noise component is suppressed when off-chip stubs are attached to a power supply pin of a 1.15GHz operating LSI. Conventional DSPs cannot effectively perform bit manipulation functions since they have multiply accumulate (MAC) oriented data paths and word-based functions. However, the proposed accelerator can process efficiently bit manipulation functions using parallel shift and Exclusive-OR (XOR) operations and bit insertion/extraction operations on multiple data. The proposed BMA has been modeled by VHDL and logic synthesized using the SEC 0.18 /spl mu/m standard cell library and the gate count of the BMA is only about 1,700 gates.
