Therefore, a single metallic wire can make a waveguide to convey the optical waves. This characteristic entails considering the field distributions inside the metallic single wire for correct analysis of plasmonic waves. The surface impedance technique relaxes this condition by modeling the interior fields with surface impedance. The accuracy of this method as well as its domain of validity is studied by comparing it with two other well-known techniques namely analytical solution and the method of moment (MoM). It is shown that the surface impedance model can be accurate at terahertz and infrared frequencies when the field distributions in exterior domain are desired.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"214 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115564768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system adopts a reverse trilateration scheme, where a set of three photodiodes is employed to estimate the position. The reverse trilateration scheme adopted for this system, yields to a very simple mathematical framework, suitable for low power and low complexity systems. The position information is inferred through Rx signal strength, without the need for sophisticated angle measurements or precise synchronization as is the case in angle of arrival and time difference of arrival systems. Simulation results show that the proposed system shows high susceptibility to noise, thus requiring high signal to noise ratios in order to achieve low positioning errors.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115030424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider subcarriers with different bandwidth as well as sub-carrier with overlapping in order to efficiently utilize the passband region of the system frequency response for data transmission. We show that, for the proposed scheme the average BER performance is improved by up to 20% compared to the conventional m-CAP system.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133413366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MAC layer is implemented on a visible light communication (VLC)network. The star topology and the line-of-sight (LOS)configuration is chosen for the network. This network is consist of a coordinator and four nodes. We built these devices based on analog components and the microcontroller. The throughput of the network is evaluated by calculating the percentage of successful transmissions. Also, the success percentage of each node in the network is examined to evaluate the fairness in the network. The experimental results show that fairness is not met in the network. Also, by increasing the number of nodes in the network the throughput is decreased.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116994980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spiral phase plates are used to convert a Gaussian beam to a Laguerre-Gauss beam with a desired topological charge. Analytical formulas for calculating conversion ratio of OAM modes passing through a spiral phase plate is demonstrated. With this conversion ratio efficiency and crosstalk of the communication link is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125242314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In silicon-organic HPDs, the light absorption occurs effectively at the heterojunction interface. The difference of energy levels at the silicon-organic heterojunction interface provides a valid energy state for hybrid charge transfer excitons and accordingly, the absorption at the interface is justified by excitonic absorption. We analyzed and modeled the infrared silicon-organic hybrid photodetectors in both dynamic and steady-state conditions. According to the results, a silicon organic HPD was designed with 175 MHz operating bandwidth which could be applicable in many optical wireless communication systems.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129612675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
