In this paper, we use 6 light emitting diodes (LEDs)mounted on the ceiling and a camera based receiver for localization and estimate the location using the view angles between LEDs in the image plane. We show that, the accuracy of localization using camera can be affected by the camera parameters such as the lens distortion and the resolution of the image sensor. We also investigate the effect of field of view (FOV)of the camera on the positioning errors for the proposed VLP system.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121964089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focus on the non-linear characteristic of the LED within its dynamic-range, while neglecting the effect of upper signal clipping which has been subject of extensive research so far. The LED is modeled by the Hammerstein model, which consists of a linear time-invariant system followed by a memoryless non-linear part. Through Monte-Carlo simulations we show that, for a given spectral efficiency, the CAP-FDE scheme suffers less from LED non-linearity in terms of electrical power, as compared with the classical DC-biased optical orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123482238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study the limitations arising from the limited bandwidth of these components as well as the solar background noise in relatively shallow waters. In particular, we show the interest of frequency-domain equalization in increasing the link data rate using on-off-keying and pulse-position modulation. Also, for a worst-case scenario, we determine the operation depth (with respect to the receiver)beyond which the link performance is not affected by the solar noise.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127108254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We test the scaled conjugate-gradient, conjugate-gradient backpropagation and Levenberg-Marquardt back propagation (LM) algorithms with 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 neurons. We show that, LM offers superior bit error rate performance in comparison to other training algorithms based on the mean square error. The dual-hop transmission is composed of an asymmetric radio frequency (RF)link and a free space optical (FSO)link. In the considered system, an unlicensed secondary user (SU)uses the spectrum which is shared by a licensed primary user (PU)in a controlled manner to keep the interference at PU receiver, below a predefined value. Furthermore, among $M$ available relays, one relay with the best end-to-end signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR)is selected for transmission. It is assumed that all of the RF links follow Rayleigh fading and all of the FSO links follow Gamma-Gamma distribution. Simulations results for some important security metrics, such as the average secrecy capacity (SC), and secrecy outage probability (SOP)are presented, where some practical issues of FSO links such as atmospheric turbulence, and pointing errors are taken into consideration.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114490095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a blind and fast algorithm based on the generalized maximum likelihood sequence detection (GMLSD) for APD photon-counting receivers without requiring the transmission of training sequence. More precisely, our proposed method achieves a higher spectral and energy efficiency compared to the conventional methods. In addition, the proposed algorithm makes the GMLSD receiver more attractive due to a lower computational complexity. We show through different Monte-Carlo simulation results that by increasing the length of the transmitted sequence, the bit error rate (BER) performance of our proposed Fast GMLSD receiver approaches to that achieved under perfect channel state information (CSI). Finally, we address the effect of the average number of noise photoelectrons and the turbulence strength on the BER performance of the considered FSO system.","PeriodicalId":375524,"journal":{"name":"2019 2nd West Asian Colloquium on Optical Wireless Communications (WACOWC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114393627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
