As in many parts of the world, Senegalese children consume significant amounts of food between main meals (snacking) with a wide consumption of soft drinks and chips products which can have negative effects on children sanitary health. This study aims at investigating some dietary habits of Senegalese school-age children and the nutritional composition of some snacking products to alleviate nutrition and health issues caused by food quality. A survey was carried out in schools in some districts of Dakar and allowed to identify the most consumed soft drinks and chips from which samples were taken and subjected to physicochemical analysis. Snacking was a common habit in Senegalese school-age children with 68% declaring regular consumption of chips and 88% that of sweetened drinks. The main component in soft drinks after water was carbohydrates with contents ranging between 6.50 ± 0.27 and 13.75 ± 0.01% and energy values varying between 26.00 ± 1.09 and 54.99 ± 0.04 kcal/100g. Some minerals such as magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium were also present with levels comprised between 4.35 ± 0.15 mg/100g to 167.41 ± 9.50 mg/100g. The ranges were: Mg (8.26 ± 0.23-12.11 ± 0.84), Na (4.35 ± 0.15-8.18 ± 0.10), K (4.50 ± 0.35-8.18 ± 0.52) and Ca (120.51 ± 10.90-167.41 ± 9.50). The macronutrients in chips were proteins (5.95 ± 0.10 - 10.70 ± 0.05%), fat (19.86 ± 0.65 - 35.94 ± 0.01%), carbohydrates (47.43 ± 0.44 - 64.65 ± 0.78%) and dietary fiber (1.55 ± 0.10 - 2.13 ± 0.23%). Sodium and potassium were also present with levels of 580.04 ± 23.98 to 692.97 ± 40.78 mg/100g for sodium and 159.84 ± 6.86 to 318.57 ± 1.09 mg/100g for potassium. The results of this study can help orient the strategies to put into effect in order to inform children and their parents on the best diets to adopt for a healthy and quality life.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116218316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Manifestly, prevention and treatment are the two main strategies commonly adopted to tackle the problem of substance abuse. They are in fact cross-disciplinary, and they relate to the various domains of heredity, biology, psychology, cognitive science, family, social development and cultural structures. Almost everyone, directly or indirectly, comes in contact everyday with drug/substance use or abuse. The drug scene is a varied one that includes licit and illicit drugs, street drugs, prescription drugs, over- the-counter drugs, drugs for pleasure, and drugs to ease pain. This special issue, “psychoactive substance abuse”, has been reviewed going through the global world and Nigeria in particular to enhance a re-think on processes and influences of substance abuse across different domains, through which a multilevel perspective is considered more helpful for analyzing its complex nature, courses and consequences which include mental illness, liver and kidney related diseases, low productivity, child abuse, sexual abuse, loss of individual integrity, destruction of nasal tissues, lesions in lung unpredictable effects such as convulsion, respiratory paralysis and untimely death. This in turn checked the possible negative consequences of excess intake of these psychoactive drugs in order to discourage the users and alert the necessary authorities to seriously act to this effect.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121313684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, the contents of inorganic mercury and total mercury were determined. Simplified analytical procedures (microwave digestion and ultrasonic assisted extraction) were used for sample preparation. A reference material (BCR-60) was used to validate the analytical procedures used for sample preparation. The results of the analysis show that the total mercury contents found in algae samples from the Galician Rias are relatively similar to those found in algae samples from the Dakar coast. However, the inorganic mercury content of the algae from Pontevedra Ria was considerably higher than that found in the algae samples from Vigo Ria. The distribution was observed for inorganic mercury and total mercury, indicating that inorganic mercury is the major mercury species that bioaccumulates in marine algae. The inorganic mercury contents were always approximately equal to those of total mercury in the algae samples and a satisfactory correlation (p <0.0001; r = 0.9997) was obtained between them. Finally, the ANOVA analysis indicates that no significant difference (F = 0.165; p = 0.809) was found between the algae of the two aquatic systems (Dakar coast and Galician Rias).","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131768814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multivariate and health risk equations were employed to achieve this. The mean of heavy metals in samples of Oboburu indicated high levels for Fe (271.0±156.6 mg/kg), Pb (111.2±94.97 mg/kg), and Mn (27.92±23.80 mg/kg), Obagi was high for Fe (248.4±175.9 mg/kg), Mn (80.46±12.40 mg/kg), and Co (116.3±193.7 mg/kg), and Ogbogu was high for Fe (160.9±150.3 mg/kg), Co (240.1±412.1 mg/kg), and Mn (42.90±16.82 mg/kg) respectively. Geo-accumulation index indicated that Pb, Cd and Co was of high contamination and the enrichment factor showed that metals were of anthropogenic sources. The Principle component analysis revealed three (3) components accounting for 88.448%, which revealed that the contamination in the sample was more of anthropogenic than biogenic. The Cancer Risk estimate for children population was of high risk for Ni, Cr, Cd and Pb (10-5 to 10-6) while adult population was 10-6 and lower. The non-carcinogenic risk indicated highest value for children in Co (2.75), Pb (1.70E-1) and Fe (1.32E-1), while adult in Co (1.007) and Fe (3.29E-2). The findings suggest human activities have contributed greatly to the contamination of the agricultural soil and usage of such may be of risk to the users.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124168907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has high nutritional value and used by people where food scarcity is adverse and people are afflicted with under nutrition. Cassava roots and leaves are used as sources of carbohydrate, protein, vitamins and minerals. Cassava also contains some anti-nutrients that have an effect on human health when ingested in high amount. But, proper cooking and soaking overnight can detoxify the anti-nutrients before using for nutrition purposes. Bio-fortification, which increases protein, mineral and vitamin contents of cassava, is also utilized to minimize the anti-nutrient and carcinogenic content of the plant. The protein content of cassava could be improved by fortifying its powder with other crops with high protein content.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"22 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116686418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results: Experimental data and the theory show, that the model fits to homogene chromophores at room and not low temperatures to escape degeneration and inhomogeneity. Side result of the approach is possibility to view inhomogeneity of chromophores or solvent site inhomogeneity. Conclusions: The approach is applied to vibronic spectra of molecular systems: molecules in different aggregate states, molecular crystals, color and F-centers, films and quantum dots. The trouble with the procedure is using wings of spectra, where the errors can be introduced by overlapping of impurities spectra and even by measurement inaccuracy.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126746648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter is related to the separation of the crystalline and molten phases in density and composition. Althose in recent years a number of papers deal with the experimental and theoretical determination of the processes of the percalation of metallic melts through the crystalline silicate matrix and the physical properties of the metallic and sulfide melts. For the Moon, the problem of the existence of the metallic or sulfide core still remains unsolved. There is stil the nessity of further investigation in this direction. The possible origin of the Moon’s metallic core at the precipitation of iron-sulfide phases during the partial melting of ultramafic material under various redox conditions was experimentally modeled by partially melting the model system olivine (85 wt %)+ ferrobasalt (10 wt %)+ metallic phase Fe95S5 (5 wt %) in a high-temperature centrifuge at 1430-1450°C.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130487315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A combination of a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (30mJ, 10ns) with an objective lens having a long focal length of 600 mm were used to generate plasmas, and the emitted light was analyzed spectroscopically by a compact fiber-optic spectrometer having a CCD array detector. A pulse generator was constructed in order to synchronize the laser pulse, the CCD spectrometer and the electric actuator. The elemental composition of aluminum alloy scrap was determined by the calibration curves obtained by analyzing the standard aluminum alloy samples. The sorting algorithm based on the difference of the concentration of main additional elements of aluminum alloy was proposed. The developed LIBS sorting system was applied for the analysis of aluminum alloy samples and complete classification and separation of cast and wrought aluminum alloys into specific alloy groups was achieved.","PeriodicalId":374350,"journal":{"name":"Science Journal of Analytical Chemistry","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125177649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
