The syndrome is rare, with few cases reported worldwide, especially those describing an association between KTS and spinal extradural meningeal cysts (SEMC). This report highlights a rare case of a pediatric patient with Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome who underwent successful surgical decompression of a thoracolumbar extradural cyst, highlighting the importance of reevaluating surgical interventions in KTS patients.\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 A 15-year-old girl diagnosed with Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome four days postnatally, was referred to our clinic due to chronic back pain and spastic paraparesis. These symptoms were attributed to a compressive extradural thoracolumbar cyst. Diagnostic evaluations confirmed the presence of the cyst, leading to the decision to proceed with surgical intervention.\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 The surgical approach involved a laminoplasty at T11-T12-L1, resulting in the total removal of the cystic lesion. The patient exhibited a complete resolution of symptoms post-operatively, with no significant complications reported during the surgery.\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 With this case, we question the fear of surgical intervention in Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome patients, which is often avoided due to concerns of high-risk complications like excessive bleeding or poor wound healing, and hint at a possible association between KTS and Extradural Meningeal Cysts.\u0000

It remains the second and third cause of community- and hospital-acquired bacteremia, respectively, and is associated with mortality rates of up to 15%, despite advances in broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy and improved access to emergency biliary tract decompression procedures. Even though not much has changed in recent years in terms of diagnosis or treatment, new data have emerged regarding multidrug-resistant bacteria that serve as etiologic agents of cholangitis. Moreover, different approaches in antibiotic regimes depending on severity grading and bile sample cultures as well as novel minimally invasive endoscopic procedures that can help when consecrated treatments such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) fail, cannot be performed, or are unavailable have been proposed. This state-of-the-art review aims to offer a complete and updated assessment of the epidemiology, novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods, complications, and prognostic variables of acute cholangitis. We will review the prognostic implications of unusual complications, the relevance of regular bile samples and antibiograms, and their new role in guiding antibiotic therapy and limiting antibiotic resistance to present an organized and comprehensive approach to the care of acute cholangitis.

Though relatively uncommon, this phenomenon this phenomenon can have significant clinical implications. This comprehensive review delves into the clinical and electroencephalographic correlates of carbamazepine-associated hiccups, aiming to enhance understanding and management of this neurological side effect. Our review synthesizes qualitative epidemiological data, revealing that carbamazepine-induced hiccups occur in a subset of patients receiving the medication, with reported incidence rates ranging from 2.5% to 40%. Despite its relatively low prevalence, hiccups pose substantial challenges for patients and healthcare providers. Complications associated with carbamazepine-induced hiccups include disruption of sleep, impaired social functioning, and decreased quality of life, underscoring the clinical significance of this side effect. Effective management strategies can be implemented through a multidisciplinary approach, including collaboration among neurologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. These may include dose adjustments, medication discontinuation, and adjunctive therapies such as diaphragmatic breathing exercises or acupuncture. Additionally, close monitoring for adverse effects and timely intervention are essential to mitigate the impact of hiccups on patient well-being. Essentially, carbamazepine-induced hiccups represent a clinically relevant phenomenon that warrants attention in the management of epilepsy. By recognizing the clinical manifestations, understanding the underlying pathophysiology, and implementing evidence-based management strategies, healthcare providers can optimize patient care and improve outcomes in this patient population.
