Based on Soviet and Turkish periodicals, as well as materials from the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation (WUA RF) and newly discovered secret documents from the archives of the USA, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, academics from the Turkic republics of the former USSR set out their concept of Soviet-Turkish relations during the Second World War and Turkey’s relations with the United States and Great Britain. In general, one can note their unity with the views of Turkish historians on the policy of neutrality and political loneliness of Turkey due to the unreliable partnership with Western members of the anti-Hitler coalition. At the same time, considering the policy of Turkey during the war years as pursuing an independent course, researchers de facto come to the opposite results, showing that in defining its foreign policy discourse, Turkey depended on the actions of the USSR. A similar situation is observed in Turkish publications, where is noted the predominant influence of the Soviet factor on Turkey’s foreign policy during the war and in the post-war period. At the same time, researchers from the Turkic-speaking countries of the Near Abroad tend not to portray Turkey’s policy exclusively in white colors. There is another aspect as well. But while in Turkish historiography the German attack on the USSR is viewed as a positive factor, representatives of the former Soviet republics maintain a negative view towards it.","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124225574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The standard of living of the Japanese roughly corresponds to the standards of developed European countries, and at the same time there is no significant stratification of the population by income. Such phenomena as poverty, unemployment, mass strikes are far in the past. Japan is also distinguished by the punctual operation of transport, high level of sanitation and hygiene, very good service, low crime rate, etc. In other words, there are all the basic conditions for a decent and comfortable life. However, against the background of general well-being, there are groups of the population whose lifestyle does not meet the standards and norms of behavior in accordance with which the absolute majority of Japanese people build their lives. Because of these deviations, we call the people in these groups «non-standard» Japanese. These groups can be found both among young people and among the adult population. The article presents the main characteristics of these groups, shows the reasons that prompted these people to change their usual way of life to a «non-standard», describes the measures taken by the state to support such citizens. The article also shows that people whom society for one reason or another does not perceive as ordinary, «normal» citizens can be found outside the groups of «non-standard» Japanese. The author comes to the conclusion that describing Japan as a prosperous country, at the same time it should be borne in mind that there are many citizens who do not fit into society’s ideas of «normality». At the same time, many of them are well aware of their «specialness» and the vulnerability of their position in society, where it is customary to «be like everyone else».","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125265292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conference was attended by scientists from different countries, such as Russia, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Russia was represented by researchers from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Lipetsk, the Republic of Buryatia (Ulan-Ude), the Republic of Dagestan (Makhachkala), the Republic of Crimea (Simferopol, Bakhchisaray). This is a good indication of how far the development of Oriental and archival studies are at present in Russia. During the three-day work of the conference, over 60 reports were presented. The agenda of the conference covered both the traditional and modern methods of research of archival materials, issues of preservation, cataloging, digitization, publication of Oriental manuscripts and old printed books. The scientific and epistolary heritage of Orientalists of the 19th–20th centuries is widely shown in the reports. The archival materials and documents presented in the reports of the participants are incredibly extensive and concentrated in archives, libraries, various scientific organizations and private collections around the world. Traditionally the participating archivists introduced to their colleagues the new Oriental documents and materials collected from Russian and foreign archives. Many of them will be published in the “Oriental Archive” Journal in 2022.","PeriodicalId":373435,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128283754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
