Based on the statistical data for 217 prefecture cities in China, this paper investigates the short-term (10 years) effect of transport improvements on urban compactness. Firstly, using the method of entropy, we get the urban compactness of 217 prefecture cities from 1999 to 2012, and then explore the relationship between transportation and urban compactness. Results show that transport improvements contribute to increasing urban compactness in short-term, but the effects have time lag. Transport agencies should pay more attention on the transport improvement, especially public transport. These results suggest guidelines for the future of China's urbanization.","PeriodicalId":372752,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Traffic and Logistics Engineering","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124929965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ITCS system resolves the limitations of traditional traffic control systems which assign fixed green time, and give inefficient control in unforeseen traffic situations. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques can be used to optimize the flow of traffic at a traffic junction, based on real-time information of traffic volume on different lanes. In this work, we present a novel traffic control schemeITCSwith machine learning abilities. The Intelligent Traffic Control System (ITCS) consists of Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras that take photograph of each traffic lane in real time, and send to the Image Processing unit which determines the volume of traffic on that particular lane. The ITCS then assigns a priority to each lane based on the current traffic volume on it. The priority weights can be adapted in real time, and are capable of responding to traffic changes caused by unforeseen events. The Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS)-based traffic control system can learn from past traffic data and can predict future traffic on a particular road, by observing the traffic on the adjoining roads. The ITCS system will help to alleviate traffic congestions on major city roads and reduce unproductive time, economic stagnation, and green house emissions in","PeriodicalId":372752,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Traffic and Logistics Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124630360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents innovatively that the change of road vehicle density can be used to quantitatively determine the open cell's improvement of surrounding road congestion. The degree of evacuation is defined to describe the influence of open cell on the surrounding road. The study will assess both bikes and e-bikes safety according to exposure, risk and consequences. The study will review relevant literature on Traffic Calming Measures (TCMs). It will develop a conceptual framework to determine the impact of different TCMs (horizontal and vertical) on traffic safety for both traditional and e-bikes safety. Work zone barriers can help reduce the risk to the work crew as well as drivers by containing and redirecting vehicles, thereby minimizing the risk of vehicles entering work zones. In a first of a kind study on an arterial road, this study investigated the impact of work zone barriers (cone pylons, concrete jersey barriers, and metal barriers) on driver behavior; speeding and lateral movement, using a high fidelity driving simulator. Traffic volumes were based on Level of Service (LOS) C in which 53 individuals participated in the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between mean vehicle speeds and mean vehicle deviation from the lane center while driving beside cone pylons, concrete jersey barriers, and metal barriers. An additional Tukey’s Post Hoc analysis disclosed that the difference in means is statistically significant only between cone pylons and concrete jersey barriers. The study results indicated that drivers tend to increase speed alongside concrete jersey barriers, which corresponds with prior research. An interesting observation was that drivers tend to deviate from the center of the lane, away from the barrier, while driving alongside concrete jersey barriers. Presently, most traffic safety assessment and prediction related work is based on the use of historical accident data that has known drawbacks related to the quality and coverage of data especially in developing countries like India. For the assessment of roadway solutions in the future, it is impractical and unethical to wait for accidents to occur before being able to draw statistically sound conclusions regarding safety impact. Hence there is a need to develop proactive models based on Surrogate Safety Measures (SSMs) for a more effective safety evaluation. The main advantage associated with the use of safety indicators is that they occur considerably more frequently than accidents, thereby implying an efficient and more statistically reliable proximal measure of traffic safety. The objective of this study is to assess the level of traffic safety at an uncontrolled intersection using microsimulation modeling under mixed traffic condition by devising a unique strategy of measuring proximal safety indicator, Post Encroachment Time (PET).","PeriodicalId":372752,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Traffic and Logistics Engineering","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128981960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific issues evaluated that the traffic volumes were not sensitive to little rain, while speed of each time period has different degree of reduction during rainy days.
