The rapidity of developments is reflected in particular on the increase in the quality of life on the one hand, but on the other hand, it creates inconveniences associated with lack of basic or advanced skills, industrial reorganization, data security, private life, etc. All these developments are monitored by the European Commission, which, recognizing their potential, has brought digital policies to the forefront of its agenda. The Digital Agenda is a program document launched in a crisis-dominated European socio-economic context to define the influence that the use of information and communication technology has on achieving Europe's 2020 goals and to develop a Digital Single Market. In this respect, Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the Digital Agenda, stressed that \"we must put the interests of European citizens and companies at the forefront of the digital revolution in order to fully benefit from the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) create new jobs and promote social sustainability and inclusion.\" At the same time, he argues that \"the ambitious strategy presented today clearly shows the areas on which we must concentrate our efforts in the years to come. The technology has also reached the point where it is viewed as a necessity and not just a nicety. The ubiquity and accessibility of video conferencing technology can save time and money across the spectrum of business processes, especially when comes to call centers. We propose a solution that can develop the communication with callers and provide a large impact on customer retention. One of the major issues regarding customer satisfaction when interacting with call centers or other types of customer support services is related to the resolution efficiency (solving the customer inquiry during the first contact), this is highly dependent with the communication solutions between the call centers department. But one thing is keeping videoconferencing from becoming a more standard form of communication: the technical difficulties that all videoconferences occasionally experience. The frustrations of video conferencing, though usually brief and irregular, may at first seem to outweigh the benefits. Connectivity problems can keep this from happening and are thus one of the most frustrating technical problems experienced by video conferences. Digitalization affects all aspects of society, cutting through all societal functions. Digital platforms make it possible to match demands on things and services and deliver them at a lower cost. Automatization and robotics affect demand for manual operations and workers. Moreover, working life is changing, as it increasingly utilizes an emerging complementary relationship between machines and people. Needs for more knowledge and skills also arise. This article provides a preliminary plan as to how and in what respects the issue of information security might be incorporated into university teachers’ expertise. For example, in distance learning—a form of education distribution requiring computer equipment that is to be provided by the student—information security is crucial. From the educator’s point of view, student identification—in connection with exams, for example—is obviously critical. Digital on-campus exams are another pertinent theme, entailing many opportunities for doing things in new or better ways in comparison with paper exams and the time-consuming administration they involve. New questions arise, however. Certain aspects of information and communication technology entail risks—such as Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, cybercrime, and sabotage in general. This article will discuss the need for university teachers to be prepared to respond adequately and effectively to information security issues. Examples are given showing how the University of Borås approaches security considerations. Dinu, Rodica Gardikiotis","doi":"10.12753/2066-026x-18-127","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12753/2066-026x-18-127","url":null,"abstract":"The article is based on the Improving the Initial Education of Adult Immigrants (2IMINED) project, a KA2 Strategic Partnership (2016-1-LT01-KA204-023223), as it is being implemented by EuroED Foundation, Iasi, Romania. The aim of the project is to develop innovative educational tools, which would improve and extend the offer of learning opportunities for immigrants. The article introduces the project’s objectives, target groups and activities. It also presents the findings of the research conducted through questionnaires and interviews and carried out in the north-east of Romania. The research analysis highlighted the specific characteristics (age, gender, marital status, education, reasons for coming to Romania, information received about Romania before their decision to leave their own country) and social educational needs of both immigrant educators and immigrants in this region. The research analysis was based on a number of 102 immigrants and 5 immigrants’ educators. The information received from this research served as the basis for the creation of digital innovative tools (mainly focused on the role of education in the first years of immigration), which will facilitate immigrants’ integration into the host society. The study gives useful insights into the creation process of the core materials, which will help immigrants to acquire basic knowledge and understanding about the host country’s sociocultural life. Two vital strands of the core digital materials, on language learning and health care, which EuroEd is in charge of, are analysed in detail. This sounds like Star Trek, but is part of the promises brought about by a new wave of Virtual Reality (VR) tools. This paper will approach the issue of military history in gaming, with an accent upon the changes brought by this technological change. While teaching history with video games is a frequently discussed idea in social studies, both regarding the phenomenon of war and other, more general, issues, such as economics, social structures, diplomacy, religion, cultures or gender, Virtual Reality applications are still in flux and its perspectives aren`t very clear. Most of them are software demos or modest programs in comparison with established platforms like PCs, smartphones or consoles, and not only regarding video games. Its supporters argue that the new VR wave of products will change everything about the ways we interact in the electronic world, from using the Internet to publicity or elections, while its opponents consider that is a high-tech luxury for rich people, a mere fad. The paper will present VR`s main features: its technical details, the issue of costs, its most significant applications and some of its potential. The main conclusion is that, while there is a great potential for both playing and teaching military history in Virtual Reality, its prospects depends, the same as in other types of video entertainment, upon a combination of market successes and convincing gameplay (I. Cartarescu-Petrica, 2015; M. Sicart, 2009). This trend grew out of their desire to be informed and connected to each other, and it developed into the use of social media for transmitting news and for communicating in case of critical events. This background leads to the idea that social networking may be exploited with respect to various vulnerabilities that currently preoccupy people around the globe. The platform presented in this paper concerns the nuclear vulnerabilities, which are of increasing interest due to our geolocation and to the international context. As it is a proof of concept, the implementation does not use consecrated socializing social network services, but it leans on an open source engine that is integrated in a multiple-node architecture. Consequently, when information reaches a node, it is subsequently sent to the entire network. The domain specific content was created based on documentation elaborated by specialists in nuclear physics and engineering, within a national research project for monitoring vulnerabilities induced in environment, infrastructure, and population, by nuclear facilities. Thus, authenticated users can gain knowledge and discuss on this topic of great importance. Beyond simple posts and comments, the platform also has the role to provide informal education and awareness regarding new and historical events, as well as recommended procedures for prevention and emergency response. So far, the work focused on the technical aspects, and the functionality is accessible through a web portal and an Android application. Smart phones and tablets are among the most dynamic devices and, most likely, the focal point of the technological development of modern electronics. By analyzing this dynamics, it is difficult to give a definitive definition of the term. We are increasingly (and more) dependent on these technologies, communication, connection, transfer and information. All this are possible due to the mobile applications running on these devices. That's why in this paper we'll highlight how mobile applications help users enhance their cyber security culture. Most applications can be downloaded from a platform or store and are generally created and developed by companies like Apple, Google, Windows, BlackBerry, etc. Downloading is free of charge, except for certain applications available in professional versions that need to be paid. There are hundreds of applications with information about cyber security, but the difference does not make by content, but the way it is presented, the ease of finding it, the added value. The application architecture must be simple and easy to understand. It has to emerge from the style of using a smartphone, rely on already reflexive behaviors and do not need to have its own user manual. What if, in addition to telling the user the traffic status, a GSM distributor application would suggest traffic variants but of the higher speeds? Or would it also communicate information about the degree of confidentiality, integrity and availability? We'll show how different mobile applications bring attention to cyber security laws in different countries. The integration of semantic web technologies in knowledge management and e-learning structure, assure the semantic interoperability. This paper proposes an environment of e-learning based on new semantic technologies able to manage the process of building personalized educational content for training university hospital managers. The necessity of development of such a system results from the competence requirements for the specialists of human resources management (HRM) in the medical system. These goals are achieved using ontologies in implementing the personalized process of learning and in modelling the learning flow. Ontologies are used to model student profile, educational domain and learning process. These models are implemented into an intelligent learning Web platform. This ontology-based platform offers the specific tools to implement a new mechanism to obtain the relevant information from Internet. The implementation of personalization in the e-learning system is achieved starting from the student model to determine the knowledge level and to identify their preferences and interests. The students receive the learning material according to their profile, learning style, initial knowledge and education needs. Learning style and student's profile are the most important parameters in determining individual differences and define the adaptive learning environments. It has been successfully used in many different contexts, subjects and with different purposes. The aim of this paper is to highlight the use of these pedagogical tools as a support in teaching/learning Physical Education (PE) through English in the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach. It has been demonstrated that the use of technology has a high positive impact on the teaching and learning processes (Gimeno Sanz, 2009; Qi & Zou, 2016). In fact, it has been claimed that educational approaches based on e-learning and ICT represent an excellent vehicle for success (Bodea, 2016). First, this paper will review the literature on the use of e-learning, multimedia technology, exergames, virtual learning and multimedia in Physical Education courses. This will be followed by a discussion of integrating ICT and CLIL methodology in PE. Next the paper will propose ways to blend these three elements (ICT – Physical Education - CLIL) and show the advantages of integrating them in a given educational scenario. Finally, options and examples of using ICT in PE through CLIL at different educational levels will be discussed (Marsh D., Mehisto P., Wolff D., Frigols Martín M.J., European Framework for CLIL Teacher Education). Florea","doi":"10.12753/2066-026x-18-110","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12753/2066-026x-18-110","url":null,"abstract":"There is a strong feedback from industrial companies that students in automation engineering are not prepared well enough for challenges in the field. At the same time, students are less interested in practical applications, as their courses are more focused on mathematical characterization of industrial processes. Universities must address these issues and provide appropriate resources, available for the students, ensuring a competitive education that responds to the market requests. This paper provides a new hands-on teaching method that uses a SCADA application connected to a complex process simulator of a real plant. The application will allow students to easily achieve knowledge on remote data acquisition and control concepts, industrial communication protocols, to face real process control, interoperability, and industrial networking problems. The main aim is for them to gain practical abilities and elementary knowledge for the development of real applications, buy having as a starting point not an empty SCADA project, but one that needs to be updated with new functions or debugged for problem solving. By connecting the SCADA application to a process simulator, they will see how they can combine the scientific characterization and analysis of a problem with a practical implementation. The proposed platform uses standardized protocols and approaches, so that the achieved knowledge can be applied on applications from different manufacturers. By combining practical courses with challenging problem solving we managed to rise the interest of students.
