The article presents a case study on difficulties in using vision and visual perception development in an almost 4-year-old boy with a brain tumor. It refers to knowledge concerning visual problems in children with brain tumors that is available in source materials and presents a detailed description of difficulties in visual reception and perception in a boy whose visual problems result from cancer. This description was made based on the results of a functional vision assessment. Decreased visual acuity, reduced visual fields, abnormalities in the development of oculomotor functions, lack of spatial vision, and difficulties in visual perception were found in the boy. Both the analysis of medical literature presented in the paper and the results of the boy's functional vision assessment suggest possible development of visual functioning disorders secondary to a brain tumor, such as decreased visual acuity and reduced visual fields, which determine visual abilities and have an adverse impact on the development of visual perception in early life. Based on the analysis of an individual situation, the description of difficulties in visual functioning suggests there is a risk of similar impairments in children with brain tumors.\u0000\u0000

The article’s content is focused on such key issues as: the terminology (a review of definitions), the symptomatology and etiology of dyslexia. In the light of the collected qualitative data and empirical research findings, dyslexia is likely to occur in blind braille-reading and braille-writing students. The symptoms of dyslexia may be observable in both contracted and uncontracted braille. They may be linked to the phonological processing deficits. The causes of dyslexia in the blind population can be explained in line with the genetic conception and the magnocellular theory by Stein and colleagues. However, it is necessary to design more complex studies on braille dyslexia in the future.\u0000\u0000

The approach to this issue depends largely on the perspective of the subject that is concerned with this problem. Quality of life changes with age, the level of self-awareness, and social roles and life tasks a person takes on. That is why I have sought to outline the determinants of quality of life and its dimensions. I stress the point that these issues are particularly important from the point of view of chronically ill children, as the development of illness may have a negative impact on their physical, mental, and social spheres. Moreover, the constantly increasing number of children with chronic diseases creates a need for a closer investigation into problems in their psychosocial functioning that are determined by their health condition. Empirical data are drawn from self-report questionnaires completed by 95 randomly sampled students in institutions of higher education in Israel. We differentiate between subjects displaying adaptive and non-adaptive perfectionism and those who are not perfectionists. Similarly, we differentiate between internal and external LOC. The impact of each variable on procrastination is assessed independently, as is the combined effect of perfectionism and LOC. Findings partially uphold the study hypotheses. A significant positive correlation is found between adaptive perfectionism and internal LOC. The degree of procrastination exhibited by non-adaptive perfectionists is higher than that of non-perfectionists. Subjects displaying adaptive perfectionism and internal LOC have lower degrees of academic procrastination than those with non-adaptive perfectionism and external LOC. Children’s vocabulary increases and the semantic aspect of the words they use extends. Preschool-aged children should make utterances that are relevant to the situation and also know specific grammatical rules. This proves their maturity in this area. The quality of speech and language development shows mainly in children's ability to communicate with different people – both peers and adults. Making fluent utterances becomes noticeable in children’s school readiness.\u0000School readiness results from children’s experiences collected thanks to their own activities as well as thanks to the learning received from educational institutions (preschool, school, counseling center) and the family. According to this approach, school readiness can be understood as the preparedness of the child with Asperger syndrome for academic tasks. The literature lacks studies on school readiness in students with Asperger syndrome. School readiness is presented with reference to the developmental norm, taking into account children’s biological maturity and, at the same time, the readiness of appointed institutions and communities to support children’s capacities in individual areas. In the role of students, experiencing the world in purposely designed (academic) situations, children with Asperger syndrome may encounter difficulties.\u0000The article discusses the concept of school readiness and its components in the context of communication capacities in students with Asperger syndrome. Theoretical approaches to the elements of school readiness presented are expanded with examples of various situations in which children with Asperger syndrome showed their communication skills.
